  1. I know you said usually but unfortunately I don't think I would be very tolerant if I found any kind of poisonous creature in or around where I lived.......
  2. Anybody else read the linked article and see this at the end So a "draft" is going to take 4 years........just in time for the next election?
  3. According to the report I read the pilot set its automatic pilot before ejecting. Did he set it for a particular spot or to just fly on.........could it have crashed on buildings or a road?
  4. Yes I find the statement "being registered as non-resident for tax" in the UK slightly disingenuous as you still pay tax on most UK generated income. The only way to avoid on a private pension would have been to move offshore in some way but that comes with it's own set of costs and issues. The other issue is that in the DTA with Thailand both state and private pensions are not included (govt/civil service are) which in theory could lead to double taxation of said income....... At least as a UK citizen you get to keep the PA if you want to.
  5. Yes I was looking for a reference to a UK company as well. Interestingly the words "UK" are not used in the Thaiger headline (or not anymore?) so why did AN add it...........
  6. I think this is the 'official' Thai GSD site - http://gsd.in.th/en Has a facebook link etc on the page. There is a very well established breeder in Pattaya with great facilities who used to also have gsd shows where pedigree gsds came from all over Thailand to compete. Just did a quick search and found this link to a previous thread -
  7. Then you have never had the experience of renting. If you had then you would know the types of people that try to rent who then want to bring in 3 or 4 others to spread the cost - making the rental into an HMO which brings in a whole raft of other regulations to which you may not be able to comply. If as a renter you cannot prove the income required to fund the rent and live why would a landlord want to rent to you.........This is as true of Thailand as of the UK. It may be easier to remove people here than in the UK but most security deposits are unlikely to cover potential damages especially on cheaper rentals.
  8. Not sure why many posters bang on about this when the central bank rate in the UK and the US is over 5% - ECB just raised to 4% and no idea what Australia is. Compare that to Thailand.......I believe that's only 2.25%. Banks are not charities.
  9. 5 rooms Try this thread although not the original notification -
  10. Why would you want to use the same pin - have you never heard the advice about not using the same password on multiple sites...... You only normally have to use mobile data for the initial set up with the correct sim card - number already registered to your account. After that you should be able to use on wi fi including taking the sim card out and not having it in the phone - which is what I do with SCB app. The app may also be registering the IMEI no. of the phone as a further check - not sure on that.
  11. L&H fixed account I never used to bother. No problem with Jomtien Immigration. Last couple of years they have suggested I make a deposit of 1k which they add to it........ Along with the fact that you can withdraw the money at any time (with loss of interest) make "fixed" accounts here very different to what we may have been used to in our home countries.
  12. This is following SCB's lead so you may well be correct - in Thailand. I don't however see this happening in the UK in the near future.
  13. From the link - Forgive my ignorance of CCTV set ups but why would you need so many servers?
  14. I don't understand why 2 posters with such a prolific post count would want to make such baseless assumptions about 2 other posters especially as the first added a post to specifically cover it. No wonder people on here give up posting or responding.........
  15. Especially so if he was a colonel.......... Likely a typo or AI embellishment...........
  16. In the UK that's what I remember them saying about shell fish (mussels particularly) - not pork..........?
  17. From memory April Int My Health International has 5 different levels of cover from Emergency, then Basic and up to Premium. I have Basic (and I think @keithsimmonds has as well) but sounds like you have a higher level and hence would expect a higher cost. If not then you really are paying a lot........
  18. Thanks Keith. I have a similar exclusion but it should not affect the premium. Presuming you have the Basic policy the same as mine then premiums are very different. In December 2021 at age 62 I paid 2,297.39 - which supposedly should be in same age bracket as your age 65 2021 premium at which time you paid less....... The increase from 65 to 66 seems 'reasonable' as changing bands and the 2023 price is significantly less than the price I was quoted which gives me some hope that was perhaps an error on their part. PS. The 3131 quote was I presume with $500 deductible or you negotiated a further discount?
  19. Unfortunately not when it comes to Android which is becoming more and more locked down.
  20. I am hoping that the information below may help others who may already have or are looking at taking out April International Health Insurance or simply as a comparison to other insurance providers. This was in part driven after this thread highlighted some potential larger premium increases for me going forwards. https://aseannow.com/topic/1279120-april-international/page/2/#comments I originally only moved to April just under 2 years ago after David Shield/Passport Card whacked on a 30% increase mid band. At that time, end of 2021, April International’s premiums for their Basic policy of $500,000 with $500 excess were quoted by the broker as follows – Age – Premium % change 65 - $2,380 66 – 2,790 +17% 71 – 3,196 +14.5% As of last week when I was finally able to get April International to respond - Age – Premium % change 65 - $2,682.72 (Approx 8% over previous year) 66 – $3,743.25 +40% 71 - $4,347 +16% Premiums based on no pre existing and no claims. All 3 age premiums based on if I was renewing at that age today and in-patient only. I have queried the 65-66 age increase but no idea when I will get an answer. I know it is a change in the age bandings however it still seems very high and makes me question the small increase with the later age banding starting at 71. I also compared the Pacific Cross Maxima Plus 10m baht cover based on the spread sheet obtained from AA Insurance (from earlier this year and with no deductible and no outpatient) and at age 66 and 71 the premium differences over the previous bands were 37% and 49% respectively………Depending on which exchange rate you use the premium at 66 was lower in baht for PC compared to April Int. but higher at age 71. I know PC offer a no-claims discount as well. Just to further confuse the issue this is the very first reply from a customer service agent at April who specifically said – “For My Health International, we don't have "Age Bandings" or "Age Brackets" as mentioned. Our previous policies had it, but not our new ones. Prices according to the age are based on your exact age, and so increase each years instead of a great increase all 5 years.” This statement does not gel with the premiums given above in the latest reply. I would be interested in any other policy holders views on their premiums for comparison or simply corrections if I have used some erroneous figures/calculations. My attempted dealing's with April International have really highlighted for me the value that the then agent was able to provide especially in getting fairly basic information qualified. Unfortunately that does not seem possible now with a local agent. For completeness I have attached the pdf's from AA Insurance showing the comparisons of International policies in 2021 (I cannot seem to get a later version) and Thai policies from either late last year or earlier this year. 2021 10 Comparison top AA Health Plans Int 130121.pdfAA Comparison 1m THB plans v2.pdfAA Comparison 3m THB plans v2.pdfAA Comparison 10+m THB plans v2.pdf
  21. Sounds like you are paying extra for installation which surprises me? Try calling the call centre. In my experience with True (all be it not in Bangkok) the store staff didn't seem to have any pull with the engineers whereas via the call centre very few issues. Very unusual for them to agree a call and then not happen for a week.
  22. Almost certainly and so possibly will the Thai bank. If you have any thoughts on repatriating money at any point (and are sending to your account) it is worth saying it is for property investment or similar. Doesn't change anything or limit what you can do with the funds. OP you may well be aware but make sure you transfer in GBP and allow your or her Thai bank to do the conversion to baht. You will lose out if you allow a UK bank to do the conversion at their end.
  23. I know nothing about the Cambodian financial sector. How 'regulated' are the banks say compared to Thailand? Especially if you are not a local.
  24. Yes Sapphire used to have a great lineup
