  1. Thanks for that observation. That's why I was asking. Just doesn't sound feasible to me but perhaps that's something 'lost in translation' in the original report.
  2. Understand that but if caught they actually lose all future pension benefits - is this both state and private do you know?
  3. yes the same online portal that never acknowledged receipt of my query (twice) and took over 2 weeks to reply........
  4. Yes thanks. I have Asda which fortunately changed to Vodafone a couple of years ago.
  5. As a follow up I know a number of posters use giffgaff sims. Just looking at their "Fair Usage Policy" - https://www.giffgaff.com/terms#giffgaff-fair-usage-policy Under Roaming - So not quite as equivocal as the Three statement but it surprises me however that according to, I think, @scubascuba3 they will send a new sim to a Thai address? The statement above is also word for word O2 fair usage policy (who are giffgaff's network) and the potential supposed charging penalties do not seem to be a problem......currently...... Vodafone is similar so @HauptmannUK perhaps your friend should try one of providers using Voda or O2 networks.
  6. Thanks. This is potentially a very major problem for anybody with UK financial stuff if other UK networks follow suit............. Worrying for me anyhow.
  7. From the link This is referring to those who have taken "early retirement" at 55 which is stated as the retirement age.... So legally are they forbidden to work again even if they want to at risk of losing whatever they are due?
  8. Thanks for posting as I don't remember ever seeing this reference before when the subject has come up (which it has often) and it just seemed to be the "accepted practice". Curious though why you want a factual explanation - or are you just curious?
  9. It may only be me but I am finding news reports seemingly written with AI "inspiration" more and more irritating to read. I can't read Thai but is the report an accurate translation of the original?
  10. You have an example of this and what "western" country are you referring to specifically? And please describe what exactly you base you last sentence on because that seems a bit like scaremongering.......
  11. Just to make you feel worse you should be aware that the DTA between UK and Thailand specifically excludes pensions unless government (civil service). So in theory we could end up being taxed twice depending on how this plays out. The state pension does not count as govt. either ....... See Thailand on page 34 on the linked document and look across to note 4 on the far right. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf
  12. Anybody else pick this up in the linked article - Specifically "incurable disease"....... Considering how little is being revealed, supposedly due to privacy, I am surprised that was slipped into the report.....
  13. Unfortunately the only pensions covered under the DTA between UK and Thailand are government - that is civil service. Private pensions and state pension are specifically not covered. This has come up numerous times. Easiest way is to look at the Digest of DTAs - https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/710099/DT_Digest_April_2018.pdf Go to page 34, Thailand look at note 4 on the far right of the page.
  14. I think you are referring to CRS? If so that is something completely separate to the proposal announced by the new PM and being discussed here.
  15. Well your comprehension of that article is different to mine. There is nothing there that says the UK govt. wants them to close expat accounts. In fact I think there was an earlier link in this thread where someone stated that it is not the law but individual bank policy.
  16. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/thailand-tax-treaties Still seems to show 1981........
  17. And exactly which "people" would they be............
  18. They play in 6 balls...... Out of curiosity how long is the round on average? Thanks for the info but I won't even normally play in a 5 ball let alone a 6 especially where everything has to be putted out.
  19. Agreed but to add to my comment above I think most people also don't want to think about it. The TV series Rabbit Hole with Kiether Sutherland was very relevant in this sense and portrayed a view and use of data that most people I think would be horrified to know that we could be close to already.
  20. Unfortunately I think most people just don't care.
  21. Yet a month ago in another thread you said this at the end - This was from the start of the same post. I'm sure one of those planet names must be Uranus................ Or I guess a month is a long time in technology...........
  22. You asked this question 3 years ago - here's the link. Did you try either of the names mentioned?
  23. Well either I missed it or context but either way it's sad.
  24. Disappointed in you transam. Taking pleasure out of others potential misfortune. Especially as I don't particularly remember "chaps gloating".......... I partly agree with @PETERTHEEATER that it is probably more directed at businesses rather than individuals.
