Some pictures of Linedekor polystyrene trim installed. Some examples have one coat of paint, and others two.
-
It appears to be solid. I'll see if I can snap up a trim piece that has been discarded and test its resistance to minor blows such as from a mop, chair leg, etc. It is secured to the wall with glue and a few very small nails. It appears to be very smooth, probably more smooth than wood trim. I think it's going to look fine. They are spraying the trim starting 1 or 2 days ago. If you like you can browse through my 600+ build photos stored on a Google drive --> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TZl0zFX_2lk5xOQ_jXofs4zMF7MLffhl?usp=sharing The house started in Sep and should finish in mid August. I'll be at the site again tomorrow and will get a close up shot for you.

I started a thread in May '22 here: https://aseannow.com/topic/1260066-painting-upvc-interior-trim/ Our CM builder had quite a few samples from that manufacturer so we got our trim needs sorted fairly quickly. It's already up and looks pretty good. They're in the process of spray painting it now so all trim matches the doors and the future plantation shutters. For some reason, our builder installed the door and window trim with a setback of maybe 1cm from the edge of window opening and from the door frame. Is that standard in Thailand? It's not a problem because we opted to just paint that thin strip the same color as the trim itself. LINEDEKOR E-CATALOG 2019.pdf

permission required to view some topics?
gamb00ler replied to gamb00ler's topic in Forum Support Desk
In the long-running thread, "Diary of a farang in Issan", a poster referred to another long-running thread and used the phrase "Footrot flats". I was interested to find that thread so I used a Google search to find it on the aseannow.com site. The link that I provided in this thread was the only relevant response returned by Google in that search. In the end, I did not locate the thread that the other poster mentioned. -

Sorry... I should have been smart enough to include the link in question. https://aseannow.com/topic/1082509-man-wants-to-sue-parents-for-giving-birth-to-him-without-his-consent/ -
I got the error message shown below after using Google search of aseannow.com for "Footrot flats". I clicked on the link to the topic and this popped up. I was able to view the thread using Google's cached version.

Thanks.... they sure do have an extensive offering of metal goods. They have textured stainless sheets but not quite what I was looking for. I may switch to using the hair line texture if quilted remains unobtainable except by import.

We would like to use the patterned stainless steel for our backsplash in our new house. Our well known and competent builder is unable to locate quilted stainless steel. Anyone encountered the product locally or know a likely source ? I prefer not to import it myself. Thanks

SSA payments to Thailand
gamb00ler replied to Noslenlsn's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As usual, @Pib has provided a very detailed explanation of how to get your mySSA account set up from Thailand without a US mobile number. Were you an investigative reporter in your previous life? -
And you KNOW this because.....? I hope your answer isn't "it's obvious". I don't think you have answered or even asked an equally important question: are children with two fathers or mothers in a poorer or better situation than those with only one parent with a same sex lover/partner? I think that question is the better one to ask if you want to have an informed understanding of the same sex marriage issue.

You state you have multiple drives from your old windows server. I hope they were not configured in a RAID structure. If that's the case getting access to your data would be a real challenge. Assuming no RAID, please give a few more details. Do you remember if you were using Windows Drive Extender? If yes, that will probably complicate any recovery. How are you connecting the drives to the computer? If you can, I suggest boot without any extra drives connected and then connect them as external drives via USB.

Any Canadians receiving OAS? I have a tax question...
gamb00ler replied to Dpmde's topic in Central Thailand
You should "move" to a country that has a Social Security Agreement with Canada. USA is one of those. After "moving" you would not be subjected to any withholding but would be paying income tax in USA but none in Canada. Quote from Services Canada web site: If you live outside Canada and are not considered a Canadian resident for income tax purposes, we withhold a non-resident tax from your monthly Old Age Security payments. The tax rate is 25% unless reduced or exempted by a tax treaty between Canada and your country of residence. There are ways to reduce your tax obligation on OAS, but I am not sure under what conditions that can be accomplished. You would need to file an election under Section 216. Perhaps start at: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/international-non-residents/individuals-leaving-entering-canada-non-residents/non-residents-canada.html Link to Canada/Thai tax treaty: https://www.canada.ca/en/department-finance/programs/tax-policy/tax-treaties/country/thailand-convention-1984.html- 1 reply

Interest withholding tax
gamb00ler replied to peterfranks's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
From earlier in the thread: If you're in CM, try going to the branch where I opened my SCB EZ savings account. The branch is in the BigC at Donchan, just North of the intersection of route 1141 and the superhighway. On my first visit they were having trouble opening the EZ account. I asked them if it would work better if I had a Thai tax ID and they said yes. A couple of days later I got my tax ID and went back to that branch and got the EZ account opened. I have never had tax deducted from the interest paid on that account. On the first visit, I provided only passport, Thai license and an expired Residence Certificate from CM Imm. For the 2nd visit I added my Thai tax ID card. -

The branch is in Chiang Mai at the Big C North-East of the intersection between Routes 1141 and 11. The phone number may be 053851613. I found that phone number using Google maps so I'm unsure how accurate it will be. https://goo.gl/maps/XZjC54qnWKS7rw9z5 -

Ask your SCB branch to call me. I will give them my account number. Hopefully they can use my account as example so they can then correctly set up your account. I opened my account in Aug. '21 and now two interest payments have been received with NO tax withheld. I can send you my phone # in a private message if you decide to give this method a shot. -
Dispute With Bank
gamb00ler replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Get the transaction identifier/number for the attempted refund. Hopefully, that will show where the money went or a least lead to a subsequent transaction when the bank sent the money back to BA or to some other unknown repository. -

You said BA told you the refund transaction occurred in May. That is the transaction you need to track down, not the original purchase. What year was the refund transaction attempted by BA? -

gamb00ler replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
The number on the card is the only one that BA will use. I would use email if possible to contact BA. Asking them to call you may work better. All Visa transaction use a transaction number. Ask BA for that transaction number and then contact Bangkok Bank and/or Visa for information about that transaction. -

Perhaps that is the cause of your problem with the withholding of tax from interest. What number is on your tax forms? Is it the pink card # or the Tax ID #? -
Interest withholding tax
gamb00ler replied to peterfranks's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Other posters have reported that if you get the pink ID card before you get a Tax ID, your pink card # becomes your Tax ID. If you get the Tax ID before your pink ID card, then your Tax ID is the one you get from the Revenue Dept and in this case your pink ID # is not used for tax filing. -

On July 4th, I posted the following in this thread: On my first visit they were having trouble opening the EZ account. I asked them if it would work better if I had a Thai tax ID and they said yes. A couple of days later I got my tax ID and went back to that branch and got the EZ account opened. I have never had tax deducted from the interest paid on that account. I also successfully stopped the withholding tax at Kasikorn bank and Bangkok bank. However, I was unable to stop withholding from my fixed deposit account at Bangkok bank. I used only my Canadian passport, an expired Residence Certificate from CM Imm. on my first visit to the SCB branch. They successfully opened a regular savings account on that 1st visit which I didn't ever ask for. On the second visit (Aug 18'21) I added in my new Tax ID card and they opened the EZ Savings account. -

gamb00ler replied to peterfranks's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
It's discrimination based on possession of an ID number that the Thai Revenue Dept. can use to identify and tax the income recipient. Thai citizens use their Thai ID #, foreigners can use their pink ID card number or a Tax ID issued by the Revenue Dept. The two other countries that I've lived in before have similar withholding policies based on much the same qualifications. In the US if you don't have a Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) people who pay you money (W-2, W-2G, 1099-Misc, etc) are supposed to withhold a percentage and remit to the US gov't. You're still subject to withholding because the bank employees are lazy or untrained or overly concerned about seeming incompetent.... or perhaps all of the above.
