I don't think you've been alive long enough to collect enough data about the climate "always" changing. That implies that for you to know that fact, you must have relied on scientists who have actually studied climate. It seems you wish to accept some of that science but reject that which you find inconvenient.

I don't agree with this. In the USA employment taxes which are used to fund Social Security are collected and then invested in a special form of US Treasury bond. It is not held out of circulation. The government now has to borrow less from other sources. The government expenditures re-enter the regular channels of money flow in the economy and become indistinguishable from any other spending. Most of the mattress money that is held out of circulation comes from illegal sources or underground economies.

The tax free nature of the accounts that @macahoom referenced won't be of much benefit for those who have no tax obligation in Thailand other than earned interest. Each taxpayer in Thailand is given an exemption on the first 20K฿ of interest income and also a personal exemption of 30K฿. Furthermore there is no tax on the first 150K฿ of taxable income (including interest). I believe that if your income is only from interest, you won't pay ANY tax on the first 200K฿. Obviously when there is no tax due, the interest rate before and after tax are identical. At a rate of 2%, with no other income you would need 10M฿ on deposit before you pay tax on the interest. Even if you exceed the 200K฿ limit the Thai tax rates don't match the 15% withholding rate until income is greater than 500K฿. Thai cuisine is subdivided into at least 4 main regional styles. Central Thai is the one known best outside of Thailand and includes green and red curries, panang, lots of fresh water and ocean fish dishes, and most of the better known noodle dishes. I only know a few of the Northern or Issan dishes well and even fewer of the Southern specialties. For decent Central style, I like We-La-Dee: https://g.page/weladeechiangmai?share Also mainly Central style but closer in try Lemontree at : https://goo.gl/maps/p8p4LXfDAPjv7FbZ7 For Italian with a Thai influence, I like Sipolle at: https://goo.gl/maps/n4aMV87dwXbthMXd9 Another poster recommended The Dukes. You asked for European or Thai, but they serve a very American style of pizza, pasta, hamburgers, etc. For that style of food, I really like The Dukes. Bon appétit!

Trump under investigation for potential violations of Espionage Act

I certainly can't disagree with you on that.... however I do believe that somehow most of his voters have become emotionally entangled with MAGA and abandoned reason entirely in the realm of politics. -
If you've been a "good" AT&T customer, you can call them and ask for their assistance in unlocking it for use in Thailand. I have done that in the past.

Perhaps you are experiencing a language barrier. The quote you gave does not support your interpretation. -

Interest IS income. The previously referenced documents describe all the forms of income that are assessable income in Thailand. -

Sorry, I assumed that you had read the previous web pages on Thai tax allowances that I included in earlier responses. Go back and read those and you will learn pretty much everything you need to know about your tax obligations. The last links I gave were about the Thai tax brackets, not deductions and allowances. I'm no longer interested in holding your hand through the Thai income tax details. -
Interest withholding tax

This makes me think that you have accounts at these 4 banks, Krungsri, Kasikorn, SCB and UOB. At each of those banks your account earns more than 20K in interest. You also stated earlier that you are having tax withheld by all of the banks. The above implies that you have at least 4 X 20,000 = 80,000฿ in interest for which 12,000฿ tax is being withheld. Your are eligible for the standard 20,000฿ reduction on income that is available to all taxpayers from interest earned. You are also eligible for the 30,000฿ reduction available as the personal allowance for a single person. Your taxable income after reduction by both allowances is 30,000฿. According to the Thai Revenue Department https://www.rd.go.th/fileadmin/user_upload/AEC/AseanTax-Thailand.pdf the tax rate for those persons with less than 150,000฿ in taxable income is ZERO. https://www.rd.go.th/fileadmin/user_upload/AEC/AseanTax-Thailand.pdf https://taxsummaries.pwc.com/thailand/individual/taxes-on-personal-income Obviously your repeated statement that the maximum refund you can get is limited to 3,000฿ is not correct. Perhaps you should reconsider your decision that filing your taxes for a refund is not worth it. Where do I send my bill for doing your taxes????? -

Are you claiming that @peterfranks isn't allowed to reduce his income by up to 60K (if married) for the personal allowance, or the insurance premium allowance? I don't get the point of your post. -

I don't see in the webpage I provided that those deductions are restricted to wages/earned income. The document mostly states that "taxpayers" are eligible for most of those deductions. Only the very first deduction (Employment Expenses) listed on that page is restricted to wages/earned income. If @peterfranks has paid or accrued taxes on his interest income is he not a taxpayer? I see that they call some of the reductions in taxable income deductions and some are called allowances. The deductions are primarily against wages but the allowances are for anyone to use. So Peter would be eligible for 60K personal allowance and his health and life insurance premium up to 100K and charitable donations. Horses mouth: https://www.rd.go.th/english/6045.html -

I don't think that is accurate. Certainly you are limited to 3000฿ if the exemption for the first 20K in interest is the only exemption/deduction for which you are eligible. However, they are many other deductions that can be applied against the interest income that exceeds that 20K limit. -
That reminds me..... I'm going to insist my next doctor has some plumbing experience.

My landlady asked me to help her send a fax to US. Our conversation then turned to other US related financial matters. She worked in US for 15 years but never became a citizen and then moved back to Thailand. She gave up her green card also. She has been receiving her SS benefits for many years (15+). The IRS is withholding ~25% because she is a non-resident alien. She has never filed taxes since moving back to Thailand. I read parts of several IRS publications about taxation of Non Resident Aliens who receive income from US. I believe that if she files a 1040-NR she will be refunded a substantial portion of the money withheld. She will probably get more than half of it back. Here comes the technical portion ???? SSA benefits are classified as ECI income (Effectively Connected Income) and are therefor taxed using the same tax rates as for citizens. IRS Pub 519, Chapter 4 states that ECI "income, after allowable deductions, is taxed at graduated rates. These are the same rates that apply to US citizens and residents." Chapter 5 of the same Pub 519 states that nonresident Aliens CANNOT claim the standard deduction. (Ouch!) She will have no deductions. Tax brackets are roughly 10% on 1st 10,000 and then 12% on next 30,000. So her net tax rate will probably be around 11%. I hope there are no gaping holes. She has been a very helpful landlady and I'd like to see her only pay her correct taxes.
