  1. This another thread how important it is to have health cover. Especially when you are not rich. I hear from too many people that a health insurance is a scam (of course they want make money, and hopefully you never will need it even you paid a lot to the company). What he should do now? He should talk with the hospital he stays in right now and ask about how to pay the bills maybe in installments. instead of asking question here, I think it would be much better to talk to his hospital as soon as possible.
  2. I guess, when no alcohol is sold, then the bars also will be closed?
  3. I heard, the bank behind Wise in USA was hacked. So probably all information about Wise customers in USA are in the hands of some scammers. If you received an email, then yes, there is a good chance this could be a scam. So far I know this only affects customers in USA or somehow the bank behind was this bank. But I also read, that Wise after that changed the bank for US customers already.
  4. KrungThai and GSB (Omsin) I have opened my accounts with PinkID, yellow book (Passport they only wanted to see), but all accounts is connected with the Pink-ID. K-Bank, I changed a few years ago the connection of my bank accounts from Passport to Pink-ID (because then I not have to think about changing passports again). But there I had initially opened the accounts with Passport. My last account (savings) about 2 weeks ago I opened at K-Bank and no passport was used at all there (additional account at a branch which I used already
  5. My best guess would be, that on a PC you can read something easier (use of big screen and big font). So a person with bad eyesight has an easier life to check their amount or do anything else. But yes, except of maybe the view problems, I also not see any advantage of a PC version.
  6. I would guess, that a O-Visa or OA-Visa should be OK for satisfy. But I saw myself now some banks ask for a tax number, which seems much more complicated, especially, when you just start to living in Thailand.
  7. Everybody who tell they only change was to take out cash (big amount), i'm confused, why this person not do a cashier cheque! Yes, you probably can't wire the money, but take out a cashier cheque, it's save. It's one paper, and you can put on the name, and only that person (company) can use the money. So even if the cheque would be lost, the money wouldn't be lost (but maybe need some time). I'm always wondering why so many people here don't know how to do it. I understand, if you sell something and the other person came up with cash, but even then, you should make it clear in advance that you want a cashier cheque!
  8. My Account still working as normal. From the message it sounds like you (or someone else with access to your account) deleted (closed) the account. I hope on Monday you will receive enough information what was going on...
  9. NO (at least not at K-Bank IconSiam, BKK), A few days ago i was opening a new account at my bank K-Bank. The first bank officier told me the same thing sorry only 1 bank account for foreingers. I went right away to another girl and asked since when this new policy is there? She directly confirmed there is no such policy at K-Bank, and after chatting with another girl, she directed me to another counter where the girl was happy to open a new saving account. But there were new guidelines about documents needed. Firstly she asked for work-permit, which I not have... But this could be done by yellow book and pink ID... and then she also wanted to have a Thai tax ID, which was new. Happily I had a picture of the paper from the tax departement on my phone, which this they were happy and opened the new account (Still took a longtime).
  10. My Bank account at KTB is written in Thai letters same as on my yellow book or Pink ID, but had to show passport to open the first account at there. Omsin GSB similar, everything is in Thai, but for opening the first account I also had to show my passport. Withdrawals or anything at the counter it's OK to use the PinkID (which is more confortable to carry than a passport). What is the big advantage of Pink ID against passport, the number not change. At least for my country every about 9 years, when I have a new passport the number change and this makes it complicated to updates everywhere. The Pink ID number never will change (hopefully) so less problems with a changing number. K-Bank I never used my passport in the last 4-5 years only showing them the pink ID when doing something at the branch. expect for opening a new account this is enough. about 4 days ago I opened a new account at K-Bank and they wanted extra the yellow book and my Thai tax ID (the small paper or at least a picture of it). This with the tax ID seemed new to me, and the bank personal told at this branch this is now mandatory.
  11. I have opened yesterday another new saving account at Kasikorn. And they also wanted to see the TAX ID. It seems without tax ID it will become more and more difficult to obtain a new bank account. I was lucky, that I had an old picture of the paperwork of my Thai Tax ID. After this it was then OK. Documents: - Yellow Book (Pink ID) - TaxID This 2 (3 if you count the pink ID) they are interested to open a saving account (I already have accounts at this branch). So I'm not sure what documents are required if you are a new customer.
  12. For me it's not working after I come back from Outside Thailand. Then I have to do in 1 time in person or by mail. Except of that problem, , it was always working for me
  13. I think you should state this in your initial post.. the water pump I guess use much less electric than your AC! And as you told you use your AC in night, at a month which is much more hot than average. So this will probably your extra usage costs. You not changed anything, but your AC has to do a lot of extra work.
  14. in Bangkok Silom Edge building is a Shabu Buffet restaurant, which states at the cashier foreign credit cards add 5% extra. I'm now not sure where, but I had a second restaurant which add extra costs to a foreign CC. But I also see more and more restaurants which not accept cash anymore, which is more questioning, as tourists not have the ability to use SCAN function, so they have to use the "sometimes" more expensive credit card option. About Honda dealership, not every dealer handles the payment the same way. Some will accept and some won't.
  15. I not sure, it's the same QR as in Bangkok. But for my one, with KTB and K-Bank it's working fine.
  16. It's not really about rent out or not. You have to pay for all condos which you aren't registerd, which you only can do at once. For example if you bought extra condos for investement, for a later give to your children or whatever (even when not rent out) you have to pay the property tax.
  17. So far I know you have to talk with your office about the tax, the first year they also send me a bill, then I gone to their office with the yellow book and the bill... It took about 30-50 minutes for them to change their mistake. Since then I always receive 0 baht for my condo where I live in. I not sure if everyone have to show up or this is something depending on the office if they do their work in advance, or they not have this information available. Anyway it's not a big amount, in the first 2-3 years after they introduced the tax, it was even less.
  18. When you live in your condo/house and have a yellow book, you not need to pay!
  19. I think you not understand the system. If you scan a QR code with the banking app, how they would steal your Information? As in the QR there is no information about your banking account information! How the seller should know? In your print-screen where it's talking about QR Scam, this about scan a QR which lead you to a website, where people then enter information, but to be honest, this has nothing to do with specially QR. You also could open a link in a email, sms with a faulty link.
  20. I talk about "YOU" want stay home, that you not would drive into "richard_smith...". As I was hopping you still have enough driving skills to be able to stop if someone in front of you make a stop which you wasn't expecting.
  21. Yes I know, but to improve the laws, would be better. They always talk about want do some measures to have less accident. This would be for me a prime example to improve and do the signals like you told us you think how to drive there. Then maybe this swiss person would have stopped (maybe).
  22. This should not happen, as you should always be able to break for something in the way! I see you go with the flow, even it's wrong. The question is, is this the correct or the wrong behavior? Doing something wrong, because everyone else is doing it as well (It seems this is the american way of doing so far I know).
  23. If he leaves by Airport and has a flight ticket out, then he can fly out (in case he is early enough for paperwork and he has the 20'000 baht overstay fine). If they catch him somewhere else, he comes into IDC detention, which then he have to spend some time, till his flight is arranged.
  24. Yes, they should be punished, as all who do something against the law! But I have the feeling, that at the moment the punishment is not in correspondence with the crime. At the moment if a foreigner do something against the rules, the punishment is mostly much to harsh. It's a phenomenon, that newspaper like to print sad, or cruel stories, which are liked by the readers. At the moment especially Phuket they like to read about foreigners who do something wrong. Even here you always see a lot of comments, which is good for the website.
  25. Theoretical correct, but he also could had sex 1 time with a HIV female which could lead to become HIV as well. a change of 0.04% still could be on the first contact or even not become after 10'000 contacts.
