  1. Obviously soon that will not happen anymore. As we know, the new government is now fighting local influential people who do such things. Soon all the bad guys will be in jail. Or maybe not? Is it just elimination of the competition? Loan sharks exist in Thailand everywhere. Everybody knows them and lots of people know who the rich people in the background are. And they get away with what they do because they are well integrated with the authorities. TiT.
  2. It's interesting to read all the comments here. Did Israelis and the Palestinians always live happily together in the last decades? Or is there a long history or violence and oppression? A does something bad and B reacts. And because of that reaction of B, A reacts again. And then B reacts again, and then A, B, A, B over years and decades. And then, after a while, both sides have lots of reasons to point out the other side and blame them. Who is right? Listen to some experts and it's obvious that A is right, and B is wrong. Listen to other experts and it's the other way around. Should Thailand really pick one side? Why? IMHO Thailand condemning violence is a good point. Why should they get involved in a war which has only losers?
  3. I didn't watch any TV series in the last 30 years or so...
  4. Watch it before it will be cancelled, or all funny parts removed to make sure nobody gets offended.
  5. That is well known since many years. And some people like to ignore it since many years.
  6. Your work permit is your work permit. There is no work permit related entry in your passport. You only need your passport when you travel.
  7. A transformer works with AC. When you connect AC to a transformer on one side, and nothing on the other side, then almost no current flows. If you connect DC to a transformer, then a lot of current flows. If you would connect mains to the rectifier and the output to that transformer then when you are lucky the breaker disconnects or the transformer burns very fast a "hole" in the wire and that disconnects it. Worst case it makes boom and you have a big problem. You need a rectifier for after the transformer and that needs specs like maybe 50V and maybe a few Amps. I wrote above because if you do it wrong, then that is dangerous. Life threatening dangerous. Like little kids playing with fire. Don't do it!
  8. And is there any political will to change those laws? Or is it just the author of this article who rethinks it?
  9. Thanks for the introduction. I didn't need to read the rest.
  10. And if you think that the output of a 24V transformer after the rectification is 24V then think again - or google it.
  11. Anybody who asks that question should not play around with main voltage. Don't do it! You will live longer.
  12. If it is in Phuket and involves money the chances are high that it's a scam.
  13. If you spent a few minutes on this form it should be easy to find a couple of threads about the same question. The answer is always the same: NO!
  14. I wonder how this looked before it was (last) rented out. Some time ago I looked at apartments for rent and I was surprised in what kind of bad condition some people tried to rent out their apartments. I didn't move into any of the damaged places. But I wonder which kind of people move in there and how does the story continue? Is it likely that people will try to make the best out of it? Or do they rent a bad place and then don't care and make it worse? And some landlords are overseas and never see their own unit(s). Maybe they have a manager who is supposed to take care, but maybe that doesn't happen.
  15. It's not exactly what you asked. The managing director(s) is public available information. And I think the registered capital. Maybe more.
  16. My air purifier brings shows a number <5 when it is running for some time. It makes a difference.
  17. I learned the following system many years ago, I think there are several names for it. A) What is the problem? Don't answer with things like "the traffic outside". Answer with something like: I feel angry and helpless when I see the trucks drive by fast in front of our house. I worry about my health and I worry about the dangers for children. B) Is it important for you? If no, then don't think about it anymore. I.e. maybe you read about a war somewhere in the rest of the world. Yes, it is sad. But is it important for you? Likely not. C) Can you change it (in principle) I.e. if it rains every day, accept that you can't change that. It doesn't make sense to think about something you can't change. I you can change it, then think about how. And do it! That will make you feel better and if maybe you will solve the problem. I learned this when I started working many years ago and I internalized it. I don't worry about unimportant things and things which I can't change. And if there is a problem to solve, then I think about how to solve it and do it. Is that always successful? No. But I try, and just that makes me feel better. And maybe after a while I start with A) (see above) again.
  18. A psychiatrist will likely give you drugs. A psychologist talks with you and tries to make you feel better without taking drugs.
  19. I live in Bangkok since before the SkyTrain was built. Now there is less pollution than years ago. Many years ago, the small green busses were the worst of all of them. Then, years later, the red busses were still bad. Now I see only seldom vehicles with black smoke. Personally, I got used to the pollution. I ride motorcycle in the middle of the city, and I don't think it feels worse on any month compared to another months. I also go to bars where people smoke. I am so used to it that if you would ask me a day later if anybody was smoking in bar A or B I would be able to tell you. It was just "normal". At home, living in a high floor, the air is cleaner. But for some month (I think worst is about January to March) I use an air purifier in the bedroom. That improves the air quality considerably. For me I only need this when I sleep. Day time, sitting on a desk or sofa, I don't really know how good the air quality is.
  20. That depends how many places you want to visit. Soi 4 and Soi 6 have some things in common. But there are lots of differences. And if you want to examine those in detail, then you need weeks just for those two Sois.
  21. Not really, all girls had them and the best girls made sure they had the fancy boots. Then sometime later the girls changed to hooker heels.
  22. Did you spend any time in the Bangkok gogo-bars in the 1990th? Then you should know that that was a lot of fun. Instead of describing it myself let me quote Stephen Leather, Private Dancer: PETE I don't know if it was love at first sight, but it was pretty damn close. She had the longest hair I'd ever seen, jet black and almost down to her waist. She smiled all the time and had soft brown eyes that made my heart melt, long legs that just wouldn't quit and a figure to die for. She was stark naked except for a pair of black leather ankle boots with small chrome chains on the side. I think it was the boots that did it for me.
