  1. A lot depends on where it happens and who talks. If a food vendor calls me Mister to show off his English knowledge that is perfectly fine with me. If someone mentions the farang, maybe the only western person in the room, that is also fine. I think most people use that word without thinking about a negative meaning. I am not the slimmest person, and some people call me Uan (the fat one). I don't care, it's an easy "description" and everybody knows which person they talk about. Like: which one is your girlfriend? The brown girl. It's harmless - unless some people want to be offended.
  2. Define "will not cost you much". Lots of documents, lots of forms to fill, lots of laws and regulations to follow, and it takes time. It's almost impossible to do this without professional help. And you want to make sure you don't only get the first business visa and work-permit, you want to make sure you can get these for years. That is work for a professional accountant or lawyer.
  3. Phuket, or at least some Phuket beaches like Patong beach, were already overcrowded 30 years ago. I know, because I was there at that time, and it was already a rip-off. But anybody who goes there now has no excuse anymore "I didn't know".
  4. It's amazing what problems some people have. Mister, Sir, Farang, whatever. Who cares?
  5. I understand what you are saying. But imagine someone would have stumbled out of that door, maybe drunk or something like that. And then imagine how many people would have asked why nobody stopped that train - even if it would be inconvenient for many others.
  6. Let's assume you're a good guy and they are the nice guys who want to help you. This will get difficult very soon. To hire a farang they must have at least 2 million THB registered capital. They must pay you at least 50k per month (that is the last number I know, not sure). They must have VAT registered. All in all, it's a lot of work and requirements for them. And that is the official part. It seems any company with farang(s) employed is also more closely monitored by the authorities. If you find a company who really really needs you, then all that might be possible. If you talk with someone who might be interested to help you, then they will soon find out that this help is a lot of work and cost a lot of money. What you describe sounds like mission impossible - at least in real life.
  7. I saw that, but somehow I didn't laugh.
  8. That tell us a lot about Americans...
  9. Does it really matter why he runs? Sane people don't vote for maniacs like him.
  10. How many other convicted criminals got the sentence reduced by about 90% and are then allowed to go free after half the rest sentence?
  11. I agree with that. It seems many provider, or their developers, only use mobile phones, they don't use desktop PCs anymore. They assume you do everything on the phone.
  12. Obviously he was deep undercover.
  13. Is it possible that these influential individuals are well connected with police and politicians? Because if they wouldn't be connected and protected then they wouldn't be influential individuals. TiT
  14. I remember my first meeting with a new client when I started computer work in Thailand. I said hello to the boss, and he looked at his watch: You are on time and you speak English, now if you also know a little about computers then you are our man. I guess he managed his expectations after his experiences up to then.
  15. Obviously it's nice to have 12 or 15 suitcases full of money. But for most of us 1 suitcase is enough - especially if we are free to travel wherever we want.
  16. There is a reason why Yingluck is not in Thailand since many years. And for her it might be more difficult to play the "I am so old and sick" card.
  17. I am sure you understand my point. She could have lived a life in luxury in Thailand if she would not have done what her brother wanted.
  18. Another clone, just like Yingluck. I remember the time when Yingluck was asked if she would go into politics. At that time she said No. And then later her brother convinced her to get involved in politics. And she followed his "advice" and she committed (his) crimes and was convicted and fled the country. I wonder what Yingluck now privately thinks about her brother and politics. Was it worth it? Is she happy in the rest of the world knowing that if she would return to Thailand she would go to jail? Does Paetongtarn really want to do the same?
  19. I have to admit I am one of those people who also blame the victims. Not all of them, and not all the blame. But it seems often the victims contributed to the fact that they become victims. In a perfect world, there are no crimes, there are no criminals, there are no people who don't like you, there are no people who are upset, all is fine. But in reality, there are bad people out there, there are dark alleys and no-go-zones. There are areas where certain crimes happen regularly. And certain people do the same crimes again and again, sometimes in the same location. And one of those locations is obviously the internet. Coming back to above, there is an easy way to make sure no sex tape is ever leaked. Don't have any sex tape! If you don't create pictures or videos like that yourself, or let someone else do it, then there is nothing to publish. In theory there are hidden cameras, etc. But it seems those cases are seldom and in that case, I don't think anybody blames the victims because the victims didn't contribute to the problem. Victim blaming obviously also happens with women who walk around with skimpy clothes in dark alleys, and it happens with tourists who have a big camera around their neck, and people who flash money, and many other situations. In an ideal world there wouldn't be criminals who react to this. But in reality, there are criminals, in part junkies who need money for the next fix. And these criminals look for easy targets. And then there are upset men and women, maybe because the other cheated, maybe they were dumped, lots of reasons. And what do they do? They want revenge. And how do they do this? What can I do to hurt/embarrass my ex? ... Are victims of those crimes victims? Yes. Should they be victims? No. Could they have often behaved differently to avoid becoming a victim? Yes. My conclusion is that don't make it easy to become a victim. Don't go in those dark alleys, especially not if you are a young woman with a mini skirt. Also don't flash your money or expensive jewelry. And make sure there are no pictures and videos which you don't want to see on the internet. Does all that prevent that you ever become a victim? No. But if you use common sense and don't do certain things, then it is a lot less likely that you become a victim.
  20. Does your daughter speak Thai?
  21. Maybe they learned that from that so called leading country in the world. Let's print money!
  22. Obviously it is good that someone from the Move Forward party exposes this. But there is one big problem: The vast majority of Thai people don't pay any income tax. For them it doesn't matter where the money comes from. It's other peoples' money.
  23. I just found a video which explains the differences. Summary: Don't use AC anymore. A is minimum what should be used, F and B are even better. There are also symbols for these types.
  24. So was he looking for a (possible long time) girlfriend or for a lady for a night or two? Because if he was looking for a girlfriend and there are "too many options" then it should have been easy for him to select one of those available options. No need to see all of them if he meets one and she is just fine.
  25. I am also interested where to buy them.
