When I came to Thailand 20 years ago i spent a year prior looking at the risks involved I decided that I would take the gamble that the monies made on the sale of my UK property I would risk thankfully everything worked out fine my first property I sold at a good profit enabling me to build two separate properties however as I write I am well aware that it could all come crashing down with the click of a finger thankfully it would not leave me destitute and I would of course be upset but at the same time be grateful that I’ve enjoyed 20 good years and let’s face it there are no pockets in shrouds . Speaking from experience ingredient costs do come into the equation along with all utilities , salaries , property costs , taxes ,the list is never ending what surprises me more that such a sought out restaurant resort to placing a sticker over the original cost and write the new price surely they can afford the cost to have new menuey printed . When awarded a Michelin star it’s not just about the quality of food it’s also about the restaurant staff the restaurant surroundings it’s a combination of everything !

I would imagine the owner has a receipt for the purchase of high quality crab ss that would be the most expensive part of the dish .Does the tax department look into this restaurants takings !

DVT is a 5 year tourist visa so you are classed as a tourist every 180 days when you have to leave Thailand just buy a one way ticket leaving and a return from whichever country then return when the next 180 days expires very easy to work out !

The Thai banks will suffer not the customer there are plenty of ways to get ones overseas money into Thailand without the need of a Thai bank it’s we foreigners who keep the banks going and what about all the 800,000 deposits that are held in the banks for Visa to easy to withdraw and use an agent meaning the banks are not making money

I’m in the process of applying as ex military my yearly visa renewal will be $10 as a single person it is $800 pension per month more if married no health insurance required however getting all the paperwork together is time consuming the application is $1,500 which is refunded should you permanently leave the Philippines or if you die it’s is paid into your estate the bonus for me is that my UK pension is no longer frozen which today would pay me £2,000 more per year !

I’m now looking at relocating to the Philippines even though I have invested well over 20 million baht into the Kingdom . As ex military I can apply for a special visa the application costs 1,500 $ however it is refundable if you leave the Philippines on a permanent basses or if you die it is paid into your estate and as ex military my yearly renewal for the visa is 10$ on top of this my UK OAP will no longer be frozen so if I was residing there today I would be receiving £2,000 more per year that alone would help to cover a small apartment rent ! Sadly Thailand feel no longer a welcome country for foreigners looking to settle here long term . When I arrived here in 2005 it was 74 baht to the £ today it’s 43 to the £ and daily living costs have increased so much so that the average Thai struggles financially ! If the taxation comes into force then I will definitely spend my time beteen the Philippines and Thailand however as I’m a UK taxpayer there is an agreement in place that should exempt me from Thai taxes
