Are SD cards more reliable than USB flash drives?
NotEinstein replied to Kenny202's topic in IT and Computers
I use USB sticks as the system disk on my Raspberry Pis. If I keep the usage below 50% they last for 3+ years despite being constantly written to. As others have suggested, use a decent brand from a reputable supplier - I use SanDisk Ultra Flair from JIB as they handle the warranty well. -
Chiang Mai Immigration Q & A - Info and reports. (2020)

Went to Imm. for a re-entry permit yesterday. They have a window and queue specifically for re-entry permit requests. I asked about TM30 upon return and was told that if at the same address, no need to do anything. I didn't see any of the staff wearing masks, with just a few Thai ladies client side masked up. -
The car dealerships have local arrangements with the car "tents" as the Thais call them. Nowadays they mostly are not in tents. They make every car look perfect, so you have to get under and look for signs of accident damage repair.

A Tamarind tree, left alone, will grow to a great height and width - much greater than 2x2. What ever you plant, you are going to have to trim it - better to get some of these. These are 3 years old and have been trimmed to keep to this height. There is a tamarind tree to the left. You will see these trees used as a fence on many Thai properties. The wife says they are called Ton Sai Kaolie

Yes, even that brand. Careful with the heat - best do it during early morning as the steel is impossible to hold after 10ish...........

There is nothing wrong with the construction - the camera angle deceives. We have a 40+ year-old house with the same roof. I repaired a few holes (sun light from the inside) that had obviously been there from the build - holes for fixings in the wrong place mostly. PU sealant from the inside sorted those (I wasn't going to clamber on the roof as they get brittle with age), and the more serious holes that dropped water onto the ceiling tiles enough to be seen (luckily not high up) I covered with what the locals use and call gao kee maa (literally dog-<deleted> glue) or PU sealant. The obviously misaligned tile letting in light down it's length can probably be sealed with PU if not a large gap. While up there, I fitted some 4m rolls of silver foil encased fiberglass insulation, which made a hell of a difference to room temperatures, to the point of not needing air-con, apart from maybe April/May this year.

I totally agree with you. What capitalism has evolved into (The Cancer Stage of Capitalism by John McMutry 1998) needs to be undone, but as they have developed so much control over the mechanisms of control, I don't think our understanding of what UBI is for fits their agenda for introducing it. I guess we will find out.
-
Yes, I didn't mean direct company liability, but as the supposed additional profits are going to come from this technological unemployment, tax would need to be applied to these companies to generate enough additional general tax to fund UBI in it's entirety, which would be a huge amount. Can you honestly see these corporations operating so as not to be able to pay shareholder dividends etc?

The demise of the village ATM.

Our residence is low-so and cheap, so, full, but with younger Thais that would die without a smart phone in their hot and sweaty..... -

Here in Chiang Mai Bangkok Bank has closed their mini branches at the original BigC and what was Tesco Lotus, Hangdong Rd, now called Lotus's (what's with the superfluous 's?). Luckily there are ATMs if you know where to look. A few years back we printed paper bills for our residential customers, who all paid with cash. Now we upload web-based bills and send a link via LINE with only the tuk-tuk driver paying with cash. -
Doubt he has a licence as he is not supposed to drive, but the vehicle will have been insured, as it is required by law, however not for the damage that he caused even if it is a higher level than basic, as he is not legally supposed to drive. He is an abbot, of course he got preferential treatment. 200,000 baht is not a difficult sum for an abbot of a reasonably sized temple to lay his hands on. It seems a call was made and wheels were put in motion. The police said they tested him for alcohol. The incident happened at 7am, allegedly as he was visiting family. If you have a relationship, through whatever means, with a high enough rank of police officer, or other influential people, sure you could.

Are you privy to some of the sordid happenings at your temple? As example, our abbot has a thing for young boys, and had to pay off the parents after a nipple tweaking incident recently. He was gambling 20,000+ baht every lottery 10 years ago, I dread to think how much it is now. Of course he sleeps in an air-conned room, and there are always donations required for parties (it's his birthday soon) and additional building, but he is obviously cleverer than this one in knowing not to drive.

He didn't get rich on his own - research William L Monson

I said apparently - what does that mean in your world?

Where would you retire -- if money wasn't an issue?

Money - we are conditioned to think life revolves around using money, when in reality your happiness is dependent upon your awareness and the personal values that you decide to live by. Once needs are met, what is in your head is the important thing, not material trappings and surroundings. -
Apparently MEG (anti-freeze) soaked food permanently removes pigeons.....

Enough to ride out the short outages and surges leaving enough time to shutdown. Did you try replacing the battery in your original UPS?
