EV Charger Recommendations
Bandersnatch replied to carlyai's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
You might get more replies in the EVs in Thailand discussion https://aseannow.com/topic/1257405-electric-vehicles-in-thailand/ 82.5kWh sounds like it could be a BYD Seal, that's the size of my battery and it came with a free wall charger and installation. I have off-grid solar which powers the house and 2 EVs. I've never had 3 phase so can't be any help on that one. If I run the battery down to 20% I tend to charge it back over a few days. -

The problem with Nuclear is it always costs more and takes longer than people promise. Hinkley Point C was announced in 2007 to be finished by 2017 for £9B - now it's 2031 and £35B Nuclear is currently the most expensive electricity you can produce. Hinkley Point C guaranteed contracted sale price is £92.50/ MWh rising with inflation every year v Wind at £40/MWh Sellafield is estimated to be finish decommissioning and clean up by 2120 at an estimated cost of £121 billion not included long term storage costs. -
One of the problems with Solar Manufacturing in Thailand is that many plants are located in free trade zones designed for export so they are of no benefit to those of us who want to buy solar here. All my solar panels have been imported from China, but Canadian Solar has 2 plants in Chonburi but I never see their panels advertised here.

BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Bandersnatch replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I went to my local Viriyah office after starting to complete the Rabbit Care online form and stopped when I found their questions too intrusive. I didn’t complete the form and just closed the page down, but they still started calling me. I paid ฿32k including adding my 27 year old wife as a named driver. Half the staff from the office came out to look my Seal, it was obviously the first they had seen. A few years ago we asked BMW what the insurance for an iX1 would be and was told it would be ฿50k -

Did you try a test drive in the BYD M6? It's half the price of my Seal but has 3 rows of seats and is a full EV with LFP and V2L it would make a great second car for us if we didn't already have an MG HS PHEV I posted about it here: -
Inverter AC vs Non Inverter AC on Solar
Bandersnatch replied to narkeddiver's topic in Alternative/Renewable Energy Forum
Another factor to consider is that inverter aircons have a circuit board outside in the compressor box. If a lizard of something similar walks across it then it will fry the board. I was quoted ฿6,000 for a replacement board, I did look online to see if I could buy and fit the board myself for ฿2,000 but the model numbers didn’t match up exactly I decided to buy a Mitsubishi Heavy Duty non inverter instead of another Daikin. My inverters are all 9,000 BTU so the energy use shouldn’t be too much more. I’m completely off-grid so it won’t cost anything. I plan to install power monitoring on the breakers for one Daikin and the new Mitsu and will report my findings. -

Just went to check if the technology really is here and apparently it's not. Toyota is not selling the Prius in Thailand, they used to but not anymore. Interested to see that the fully electric bZ4x is out of stock, they obviously can't keep up with demand, what a popular car! -
The price of electricity produced from my solar panels continue to be fixed at zero Baht/kWh

Thailand is ranked ninth in the world for long-term climate risk. This ranking is based on the frequency of disasters, deaths, property losses, and economic losses over the past 20 years. https://germanwatch.org/sites/default/files/Global Climate Risk Index 2021_2.pdf I am sure most of the replies will be along the lines of either denial that the risks exist or confidence that the poster will be long dead before the worst happens. You are welcome to your opinions but I am more interested in hearing from those who have actually given this some serious thought. In my case I have concern for the future of my 1 year old son and my younger wife so I have built a house that is structurally very strong, built high above the surrounding land to avoid flooding at an altitude of 150m above sea level. The house is off-grid for power and has rainwater harvesting supported by solar well pumps that provide backup water to the house and the garden which has many fruit trees and vegetable beds. We have a large pond with fish pens. We also grow rice in the surrounding fields.

Electric Vehicles in Thailand

I just posted over in the alternative Energy Forum a video about using the small MG battery modules in a DIY home battery setup -
Many will have seen videos repurposing old Nissan Leaf Batteries More recently videos have appeared using BYD Blade Batteries The problem with these big battery packs is that they are difficult to work with for the DIYer. MG on the other hand have smaller battery modules that can be replaced without having to place the whole pack.

BYD Sealion 7 is the fully electric version of the BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid. The UK are only getting the 7 not the 6, while Thailand has the 6 and we don't know if we will get the 7 yet -

I imported my inverters and batteries from China and paid a local guy to fit them. If you go the supply and fit route you end up paying a premium on both. -

My wife and I recently swapped our iPhones for Samsungs and Android Auto connects wirelessly to whichever phone it sees first. Recently my wife was in our MG HS PHEV while I followed her home from the MG dealer in the Seal when it started playing some random Thai Boy Band at me. I tried unsuccessful to persuade the Seal that it was talking to the wrong S24 Ultra without much luck. Thai Boy Band .... Steely Dan....Thai Boy Band.. Rebooted the infotainment system and created bigger gap between the cars... Steely Dan...Thai Boy Band Muted -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help

1) Which other model would you have gone for if the Seal wasn’t around. -A year ago I didn't see anything else I liked, but now some interesting models are appearing 2) What would you like to see in the next OTA -A quick access to swap connected phones 3) Have you made any major changes ? ( wheels, tyres, wrap, etc ) -None 4) Have you installed film, the supplied cover or nothing on the glass roof ? -No film fitted and cover is also not fitted and not finding the car hot 5) How long will you keep your Seal ? -A while yet, love driving the car and using the V2L. Glad I got the AWD it's such fun and don't miss the extra range. 6) What things do you wish were better ? -paint on the plastic chin and bum -
This is a good video showing the reality of EV charging. It includes a timelapse showing EVs charging for only about 10 minutes and a rapid turnover of cars. The explanation is simple: why stay longer than you need paying ฿7/kWh or more when you can charge at home for ฿4 or ฿2.6 Time of Use or in my case free from home solar.

In a discussion with the typical troll we meet here, I would consider a published source would be seen as more credible than: "here is a spreadsheet that I just cobbled together" -

Thanks @motdaeng I haven't seen registration figures from autolifethailand for a few months, so great to get an update. 14.2% of vehicle registrations being fully electric dismisses the claim that we often hear that EV sales are collapsing -
About a year ago I gave my meter back to PEA. I have solar and house batteries, but what really gave me the confidence to not rely on PEA as a backup was my new EV which has bi-directional charging. I have connected my EV to the grid connection of my inverters to run my whole house, but a more simple solution would be to setup a permanent electric connection to a power outlet in your bedroom from where you park your EV, this would save you the hassle of running extension cables in the dark when you have a power-cut. You would then be able to power lights, fans and your internet etc. You might not be in the market for a new car at the moment but it is definitely worth considering as factor in your next car choice.
