Tragic Tuk Tuk Accident: Israeli Family Declines Legal Action
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Israel and India are two very different countries but yeah, for sure the language barrier doesn't help on the Thai side. Most Israelis actually speak very good English. When one is involved in a traumatic event like an accident, the shock can affect memory and distort what really happened. I broke my leg in a freak accident and I was very adamant when speaking to the doctor afterwards, that the broken bones in my leg had pierced through the skin but it never happened. My deepest sympathy to the parents, I can't imagine how horrible they must feel to lose their 5 year old daughter this way. -
Why you shouldnt carry cash in Thailand
Ohyesuare replied to CharlieH's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Many banks don't offer Traveller’s cheques anymore and not sure if exchange places even accept them anymore either. It's a pretty antiquated form of bringing travel funds, odd that it's being recommended in the article. -

You can set the limits yourself using the app. -
Yeah, got to dig deeper, that's what most do.

Certainly not the ones that come in cheap package tours to Pattaya. They just travel in packs like they own the street or in the road and I've seen a lot of them treat Thais disrespectfully.
-
Go to any non tourist city and I've always found Thais to be very friendly, great service at restaurants and they seem just happier in general. I can't blame the ones that have to deal with many <deleted>ty, misbehaving tourists all day for being less friendly. You don't even have to go that far from tourist cities. Bang Saen for example is not that far from Pattaya but the people seem so much friendlier and happier in my experience.

Definitely scammers. There's a large group of Indians in Pattaya who have Thai citizenship but either way, very likely not tourists. Some randomly say you are a very lucky man, where are you from, pretend to ask for help finding something etc... Once they have your attention, there are many scams they can try like the fortune telling scam, pickpocket while they are distracting you, ask to look at your money and pretend to give it all back etc... I just ignore them like I've always ignored the tailors who try and talk with you or shake your hand.

Western union and passport checked
Ohyesuare replied to Ian1980's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Without a valid visa, you are here illegally so it's possible they are being asked to check since people here illegally are more likely to be involved in money laundering and other criminal activities. Or maybe the person you dealt with was just being nosy and it's not a universal policy. -

Phuket Governor Addresses Rumors in Swiss Expat Alleged Assault Case
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
I read this article when I first heard about the case, interesting to see that they have now amended it and added the updates about his alleged crimes and prosecution in Thailand. -
Phuket Governor Addresses Rumors in Swiss Expat Alleged Assault Case
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Because the representative would have to have some connection to someone in the governor's office in order to offer any settlement in exchange for dropping the charges against him due to the high profile of the case and the top officials involved. Even if she were inclined to accept any settlement, the prosecution against him and revocation of his visa would still continue I think since Anutin has said he will personally veto any attempts. -
Chinese influencer’s food poisoning sparks Thai food hygiene row
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I doubt any parasite could survive in my frequently alcohol soaked liver but I appreciate the concern. I'm sure the drinking or vaping or infrequent exercise and sedentary lifestyle will get me first before any parasite does. -
Visa expiring over Songkran
Ohyesuare replied to jayo278's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
A flight out today or tomorrow and a short visit in another country until flying back in on the 20th is what I would personally do to avoid any possible overstay stamp or the HUGE crowds after holidays. My permission to stay was also due to expire this Monday so I renewed it for another year at the beginning of April to be safe. If she plans to work/live here awhile, let her know she can apply for extensions up to 30 days in advance next time instead of leaving it until the last few days during the biggest immigration holiday period. -

I believe that was only during COVID, or only enforced then and for some visa types, proof of health insurance is required. -
Chinese influencer’s food poisoning sparks Thai food hygiene row
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Musts hurt being criticized by a country that uses gutter oil and other disgusting tactics. Just to add, I can't recall one time I've had food poisoning in the 15 years I've been here on and off and I've eaten raw crab, raw shrimp, you name it. -
AirBnb host submitting information
Ohyesuare replied to bodo's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
All hotels photocopy your passport (or are supposed to) upon check-in. Yes, AirBNBs are not hotels. Maybe you can send the photo they want but check with them if you can redact the more sensitive information you are worried about? -
Thai doctor offered bribe to drop lawsuit in Swiss scandal
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Of course, someone will see the opportunity and want to take advantage and seize his successful elephant "sanctuary". He had an article written about him a few years ago where he already was hated by and got a lot of heat from the locals for trying to start his sanctuary and was only able to do it with the help of a Thai army major with connections. Even more of a reason why he shouldn't have been stupid and given them the opportunity. -
Bangkok Bank ATM card
Ohyesuare replied to mel2surf's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
My Bangkok Bank ATM card with a Visa logo doesn't even let me buy movie tickets online locally in Thailand anymore. Seems like they keep crippling it after the incident where a bunch of people had small amounts taken out multiple times a year or two ago from some kind of scam operation. -
Thai doctor offered bribe to drop lawsuit in Swiss scandal
Ohyesuare replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
She posted photos of the red mark his kick left which is harm to the body and there is non visible mental trauma from being randomly kicked by a huge swiss fatty and swore at for sitting on public land. I'm glad she is refusing the settlement and hope he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law.- 245 replies
