  1. Although I don't have much experience of it, I do understand from talking to other expats that in most cases, even in government hospitals, they tend to try and get as much money from you as possible, ie get you to stay as long as possible in hospital, more money for them, charging much more than the local pharmacies for medicine.
  2. Did Thaksin not increase the money in the bank from 250,000Bt to the now 800,000Bt when he was PM? I do stand to be corrected however.
  3. Even with some ridiculous immigration issues the good still outweighs the bad compared to retiring in the UK, except maybe a few years down the line when the lack of the state pension annual increases begins to bite.
  4. "The 90-day reporting is mandatory for anyone who holds a long-term visa, such as a non-immigrant visa, retirement visa, marriage visa, or work permit". I don't remember having to do 90 day reporting when I had a work permit.
  5. So far in this thread there has been no mention of a retiree having to forfeit his annual state pension increases.
  6. I know this is not Thailand but back in Scotland driving a taxi, I dropped a couple age maybe 50's, at their guesthouse at the bottom of maybe about 20 steps. The guy paid me the exact fare then asked me to carry his case up the steps. Bet you can imagine what my reply was.
  7. You would never be a friend to me unless you wear a shirt, even in your own home if I am in the same room as you. Wait a minute, is that a shower you are standing next to? That is OK if it was a selfie or the wife/gf took it.
  8. When I lived back in Scotland I knew which friends of mine were over fond of the drink, surely you must have known what his drinking habits were like before you invited him over here. How long had you known him?
  9. Yes it does Bill, big difference from this unelected caretaker PM and his Military Academy education. What education does anyone need to run a country? My wife has university degree's, but could she run a country. A third world country like Thailand should not be hard to run, but a first world western country?? The end game though is much the same, third world or first world, the PM's and cabinets are all the same, all out for themselves with the richest people always getting better off.
  10. When I say the medical profession, I do not mean the dedicated doctors and nurses, I mean the penpushers at the top who work on the financials.
  11. Maybe not, but who would you rather have? One is a soldier, the other is not, says it all.
  12. A guy who, according to the police, has done six years for criminal activity and known to the police for selling drugs?? If it is true that he regularly sold drugs to tourists, who was the bigger animal?
  13. But read the post from spidermike007, a few hundred soldiers led by some Cha Cha copyist against the ordinary Thai people, population 60 odd million, who the majority of soldiers would probably back, even their guns and tanks would not be enough.
  14. I sure hope that you are right, I have long thought a lot about what you have said here, a lot of soldiers are conscripts from decent Thai families, and if some other soldier tries to follow what the present unelected caretaker PM did, I cannot see how the Thai people would stand for it.
  15. "she has zero experience" Or else just let the soldiers continue ruining the country. What experience had the unelected caretaker PM of running the country? He only has a Military Academy Education, yet he has been there for 9 years now. What education has Paetongtarn had? I don't know for sure, but I guess she has university or college degree's.
  16. How true, they just want to keep their bank balances up along with the medical profession.
  17. I agree, the medical profession are just looking for excuses to fill their pockets, and that means the soldiers caretaker government will be in on it too.
  18. I would say more of a lack of genuine common sense would be the first thing, if you do have that, driving or riding, you will be almost free of getting involved in an accident as long as you do not lack having the skills of motorized transport.
  19. Forget about the lack of proper training on how to drive in Thailand. You cannot train stupid.
  20. Be careful, this Cvirus made an hell of a lot of the medical profession very rich and they will be looking for excuses to help their bank balances with this virus, or some other virus.
  21. Can anyone tell me what canning jars are and what they are used for. They sound very interesting. Thanks.
  22. That's the way it should be Bill, but over here the police are just not interested, the bosses are too busy prancing about with their fancy ranks instead of sending their men out on the roads and doing something about the dreadful road statistics here.
  23. and just how is someone going to know if they are riding their bike in the dark and their tail light goes out?
  24. Where insurance companies get it drastically wrong is when someone who is applying for insurance lists a previous medical condition in the application form, then claims for something which is nothing to do with the previous condition, but something which occurred after the insurance was taken out, then try to connect it with the previous condition. The claim is made then turned down because of this previous condition.
