  1. OK, not quite DIY, more (grand) child labour - supervised by Madam of course. Re-gravelling our drive, we had to wait until the ground dried out after last year's flooding otherwise the rocks would just vanish into the squidgy mess. I'm not sure what the "rocks" are actually called, it consists of stones up to around 1/2" along with much finer stuff, with rain and driving it compacts into a very solid surface (digging a channel for some cables was definitely hard work). After some rain and driving on it we'll get another load of the "rocks" and fill in the low spots. The rustic "grass up the middle" drive fits well with our "more jungle than bowling-green" style of garden.
  2. Are you actually trying to warm the room above outside ambient? If so does your A/C have "heat" mode. If it's stuck cooling when you don't want it to do try new remote batteries as above, then try turning it off at the breaker, have a coffee/beer, then try it again. Right now opening the windows would achieve what you want at zero cost.
  3. Yeah, thanks for the detail clarifications.
  4. It looks very like it is a "businesses only" requirement. The act is here (unoffical translation) https://thainetizen.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/thailand-personal-data-protection-act-2019-en.pdf How it applies to domestic CCTV and dashcams isn't really clear.
  5. We need a new "Beware of the Dog" sign so I'll include a CCTV one too. I might even buy some cameras Any idea what the dashcam sticker needs to look like and what about reversing cams??
  6. And with that, since we seem to have degenerated into bickering this thread is closed.
  7. Many moons ago a fellow apprentice smoked a pipe, his favoured baccy was "Clan" a highly aromatic blend. It actually smelled pretty good, it certainly wasn't unpleasant (unlike the roll-ups the other chaps smoked). I was never actually tempted to try it. Still available https://www.smoke-king.co.uk/clan-pipe-tobacco-50g-packet although at 18 quid for 50g I will continue to give it a miss.
  8. The bottom two (expensive) options Diesel B7 and Gasohol 95 are the premium "Super Power" blends.
  9. It's usually used to refer to the no-ethanol 95 rather than the regular E10 95 (gasohol). As @KhunBENQ notes above it is becoming a rare beast, our local PTT no longer sells it. I like it in the genset as it keeps better than the ethanol fuels, so I swap out the genny fuel every 6 months or so (use it in the mower) and put in new. The stuff with the yellow tag 3 from the bottom @51.26 Baht Updated price table here https://www.pttor.com/th/oil_price_board?lang=en
  10. In which case JAS21's post is where he should look. But I was responding to Robin whose question mentioned nothing about visa status, just whether Thailand has actual credit cards, which of couse it does.
  11. Smoking is the one (and only) vice I don't have. I was lucky enough to be introduced to smoking by "Big Boys" behind the bike-sheds. I was maybe 12 and was given a Woodbine, a UK brand which I'm 100% certain contained the floor sweepings from the factory, no filter https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Woodbine_(cigarette). After a couple of tentative puffs I was told to "take it down", a deep drag later I was puking all over. Never was tempted again. Thankyou "Big Boys".
  12. I've removed a few off-topic (bordering on discussing moderation too) posts.
  13. Of course, I have REAL (no $$$ tied up) credit cards from Citi, AmEx and SCB. All want you to be working (but see JAS21's post above) and have at least 6 months left on your WP.
  14. Or just make your own, it's easy and then you can choose the meat.
  15. So what is a "true" service? It's not like there are grease nipples or an oil change needed. Most modern units are "sealed for life".
  16. Yeah, get past 60 and they assume that you won't last long enough to need a new one ???? Both Madam's Thai ID and my foreigner ID (pink card) are "for life".
  17. Multi-splits seem to be pretty new for Thailand, everyone goes for the mini-split (one compressor per room). Big plus of the minis - Compressor dies only lose A/C in one room. Multi - compressor dies ... Get out the sweat-band. Unless you have a space issue I would go mini every time.
  18. Of course there are two sides to every coin, there ARE things that are easier/quicker here than "back home". Some years back we were living in a condo somewhat out in the sticks. I noticed in an advert that one ISP announced that they now provided ADSL in our area. I called, they emailed me a form which I completed and emailed back along with my passport and WP copies. I completed this at about 10AM. Just after lunch my wife called me and said there was a man there to install internet and did I know?
  19. Our man comes 18/19th of the month, the earliest he's ever been is the 16th (regular for February). The comment from our local PEA Boss Chap when we told him we weren't interested in the Solar Roof initiative "You are NOT allowed to spin the meter backwards!!!" on the way out he quietly said "Don't let the meter-reader see it going backwards" I "developed" a simple little unit to enable no export (or disable the panels if your inverter doesn't do it). Details in the Solar Carport thread. I have improved the firmware somewhat from the version in that thread. Anyone can build one, you don't even need to know how to solder although it does help if you want to include the manual bypass switch ???? @007 RED has built one.
  20. Sadly, it's not going to happen ????
  21. Roughly how much of your bill do you want to offset? It would be handy to know your daytime and nightime usage split (read your meter at say 6AM and 6PM for a few days). Budget! @007 RED put up a system that would probably suit, decent return without breaking the bank. Also, check if there are any solar installers in your area and see what they are offering, then come back here with same for an independant view. Global House were offering all-in prices on grid-tie systems but they seem to have gone from the website ????
  22. OK, that's going to be (very roughly) 660 kWh per month or 22kWh per day. Do you have a conventional spinning disc meter or an electronic meter? Are you going DIY or contractor, DIY would mean you can never legally export to the grid (but "everybody" does).
