  1. There is a VIP bus service Pattaya to Hua Hin. think it says only 24 seats reclining seats etc
  2. They can i have personal experience of this i had a Thai insurance policy linked to my visa (so a well known company), after a small claim that they tried to wriggle out of (my doctor phoned them), then 3 months before my renewal. my hospital emailed me to say the insurance company wanted to see my medical records, i agreed. Then at renewal not only had my policy gone up 80%, they they added a load of exclusions for things i did not have and still don't have, it was as if they were looking at someone elses medical records, i phoned them and they just said you have gone up a band as for the exclusions they would say nothing, my claim was for burnt tissue, a foot spa put neat acid on my feet despite me warning them, of course they had no 3rd party liability, I did consider phoning the regulator, but thought the insurance company would simply refuse to pay out on any claims
  3. I noticed this in BANGKOK those 70 baht heinz beans are made in China, in Bangkok they had the British ones priced at 139 baht, and on the next isle the Chinese ones at 70 baht, the labels looked identical until you read the small print. maybe i should have tried the 70 baht ones
  4. I thought the maximum amount to Krungsri was 50 000 baht per transaction, or has it changed?
  5. With reference to a credit card i have always been turned down, they have all said need a work permit, i have tried for the last 10 years, lol i still ask occasionally
  6. There was a post from an English trained nurse who had retired moved to Thailand and worked in Hospitals as a kind of meet and greeter showing the patients around hospitals( no nursing done), she loved it this was just before covid, then she was made redundant. the pay was around 30 000 baht a month but added to her pension made a happy retirement
  7. To work in Thailand as a nurse she will need to pass the Thai nursing exams which are written/spoken and all done in Thai, age wise can be a problem for all jobs in Thailand while there are plenty of older nurses they very likely started when they were much younger. Palliative care is not very advanced in Thailand, so her skill here could be very useful, my limited knowledge of palliative care here is most of the 'nursing' is done by Myanmar staff with Thais as supervisors( i am talking about care homes here) and Thai doctors who visit when required, so this might be an avenue to explore, private care homes are growing in Thailand, with her experience i am sure she would find work. The pay for nurses is not very good and there are plenty of nurse, shortages which can benefit her, best see what hospitals want with her english skills start at the top international hospitals
  8. There is no one, anywhere who is going to check your passport and tell you if it is ok, if you have written in it then it can be considered defaced, get a replacement follow the link below, you will have to go to the VFS office in Bangkok or Chang Mai in person to hand over the forms passport https://www.gov.uk/overseas-passports
  9. But it is the right response
  10. You should make a complaint https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/help/what-do-you-want-to-do
  11. I noticed on the link you provided Sheryl, if you click on the link, people over 65 it does say between 6-12 months https://www.nhs.uk/vaccinations/shingles-vaccine/ People who turn 65 on or after 1 September 2023 From 1 September 2023, you're eligible for the shingles vaccine when you turn 65. You'll be offered 2 doses of the vaccine. These are given between 6 and 12 months apart. Your GP should contact you to make an appointment to have your shingles vaccine. Contact your GP surgery if you think you're eligible for the shingles vaccine and you've not been contacted about it. You'll remain eligible until your 80th birthday (but you can have your 2nd dose up until your 81st birthday). Information: If you turned 65 before 1 September 2023, you'll be eligible for the shingles vaccine when you turn 70.

  13. This is a few years old but might be of use This link was provided by the UK consular official, their reply is on the posted thread https://www.tdc.mi.th/contact.html Can not link the above just copy and paste in browser
  14. Seems odd from the London website it shows non o retirementhttps://london.thaiembassy.org/en/page/retirement-visa, i would not advice the O-A visa as it will tie you into a few approved medical insurers better to arrange cover from a decent insurer You can always enter Thailand visa exempt/tourist visa and apply inside Thailand( non o retirement) it is a 2 step process but easy enough
  15. I see this lady https://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/doctor/prof-dr-somlak-chuengsamarn my Diabetes was severe 3 years ago, i am no longer on medication, i just have 6 monthly check ups, she now teaches/practices in the public health system but does a day or so private work, i see her at Bumrungrad she does a morning shift there once a week. as far as diet/exercise goes, there was little on that aspect from any of the doctors i saw. it seems here it is down to the patient do the research, as there a number of medications available. you will have options by going private as opposed to the public health system
  16. In Bangkok, in middle class families they hire nursing care for the most, their children have jobs and their own families(they drop in daily) , the cost varies and the standard varies, my partners mother needed H24 care after an operation, through an agency they hired someone for 25 000. after 2 weeks she was sacked, if no one was around she basically stopped working and would do nothing she was asked to do, but when someone was around she would appear to help, though it was quite clear she had no nursing skills let alone training, from a more established firm the cost was 125 000 baht a month for 24 hour( not sure what nursing skills they had) fortunately her mother improved enough so care is not needed at the moment The worker was entitles to a daily food allowance think it was 50 baht, remember most of these people have no qualifications or experience, and there are a lot of Myanmar people employed in this filed, it is the same the world over who wants a job of looking after a strangers elderly parents
  17. Had an email from my tenant showing me my water bill has gone up 30%, being a suspicious person logged into my water account and it is true yearly bill nearly 900 pounds, why are people not out protesting don't even start me on the council tax and gas/electricity increases
  18. Yes Chaeng wattana has step frees access, there are also wheel chairs at the entrances, i like the other poster seen some very very frail people been wheeled in, the IOs do give wheel chair users priority so at least no queueing
  19. Utter rubbish, why would Russia want any of the bankrupt European countries if he did he would have invaded years ago, and if NATO thought Europe was under threat it would have gone to war in 2022, Europe has not built its forces up in 3 years as it knows there is no threat , this war is about natural resources that the west wants, and getting Ukraine into NATO, the lives lost do not matter to the defense industry they have made billions out of Ukraine. billions out of Afghanistan, 2 gulf wars Libya, remember global Jihad that was going to destroy the western world, well lucky a few billion was spent on that, and in the last 40 years, has the average person in the west life style improved And remember the people of western Ukraine are ethnically Russian and speak Russian, it was Zelenskyy who was banning speaking Russian and banning the Russian orthodox church etc etc, anyone with a basic knowledge of world affairs knows that the Russians have been goaded for years over Ukraine, anyway China is the new threat, billions must be spent or we will all be speaking Chinese. don't forget India, print Billions more or else
  20. If his Alzheimer's is bad. he is going to need a fit to fly certificate at the very least and may well need a qualified medical person as escort, depending how bad it is, the airline may refuse to carry him. I have seen this a few times and as usual it is the families abroad that shoulder the burden
  21. I was at CW today for the non 0 90 day, they wanted TM30, rental contract valid at least 3 months the also wanted proof of payment to the landlord (ie receipt) they did accept a screenshot showing transfer to their bank account, 800 000 in bank that can be on the day ,also they wanted bank certificate(letter) dated today, a copy of landlords house book and their ID, as well as copy of your current stamp and copy passport bio page, and completed form TM86
  22. What i will say through experience as a farang, It has nothing to do with the hospital everything depends on the doctor/specialist never let a hospital dictate the doctor, you select your doctor, using the hospital websites (they should have the bios of all doctors), the excellent service you can receive means you go straight to a specialist and not waste weeks/months dealing with a GP. Make sure you keep your international health insurance in place, currently health care costs are going up around 20% per annum
  23. I retired at that age, the first thing you need to sort out is Health Insurance, i am self insured, what are you going to do all day? the first 6 months is relaxing then it hits, with no hobbies interests etc you will be bored out of your mind and end up drinking most days at home(seen it so many times with people living in rural locations) I live in Bangkok, with dogs, 7 aquariums. used to go to the driving range, do all my own cooking using quality products, there is not enough time in the day to get things done, weekends cinema maybe eat out, or down to Hua Hin. for me average 100 000 a month and i do go abroad a few times a year for holiday
  24. All i can say if you want a decent pie, make your own
  25. Thai health insurance jumps up a lot every 5 years so at 66 you have gone up a band (it will also go up a lot at 71) they yearly increases seem to be linked to inflation, though i am impressed they did not just add exclusions to your policy
