  1. Well, it is a (supposedly) super safe gated community. If they reach your door, there's little you can do to prevent them from getting in. A security system would merely signal the intruder, which was beyond the point since the intruder wanted face-to-face anyway. Unless you mean armed guards with shoot on sight orders?
  2. You could just say that you hate Russians, Chinese, Pheu Thai and Srettha. Because frankly your OLOA (really!) explanation isn't very convincing. Can someone actually prove, numbers in hand, that Russians and Chinese to Thailand are statistically more crime-inclined than US, UK, Farangs in general? Because if you get tens of times more Chinese than, say, UK, it is fair to expect tens of times more crimes - and btw tens of times more contribution to the economy. As for organized foreign mafias, as abhorrent as they are, they seem to target their own compatriots. While we can find many examples of UK, US, Farangs in general committing crimes that involve the population at large, such as paedophilia, hard drugs, murders of Thai partners, and so on. This said, I am also against open arms to each and every Tom and Igor and Chen that wants to stay in Thailand without much checks. Overtourism has changed the social fabric of many cities eg in Europe: Thailand should learn.
  3. Yeah, but look what happened to his hair.
  4. I am not sure what you are trying to demonstrate. The Sun (apparent motion) in declination is not linear and constant in time, 1deg/4 days is an average that doesn't represent the speed close to solstice. Anyway the "unique astronomical event" is futile, devoid of any scientific interest and hardly unique since it repeats itself twice every year. Pity, because NARIT's Astropark is indeed a nice facility for outreach and education.
  5. Maybe, but in this case it was not just his opinion: if we have to believe the report it was false information about the restaurant posted by him and a number of his friends. Quite a difference.
  6. My smartphone can do GPS and camera and maps, but you are right I have to recharge it every 120 hours, indeed it's a bit of a pain to connect it to a USB charger before I go to bed.

    Cheese

There was already a recent thread on this subject here. I am not an expert on cheddar, but Go Wholesale sells a locally made one which includes a 24 mo. old "vintage" variety which seems a good buy for the price.
  8. If you meant Koh Tao, I suggest you take a look at a map to see where it is relative to Phuket.
  9. The man is a pig, agree. He forced himself on many non-willing women, yes or very likely. And I agree with your conclusion. But don't generalize too quickly. There were also women who knew that their only talent in the film industry was their body, and accepted his offers, some for rather long periods. What the romans called "Quid pro quo". I have one particular actress in mind, who by her own account disclosed that there was no forced sex but rather consensual, carried on for years. Finally when even her body was not a hot currency anymore she jumped ship and was a leader of the metoo movement.
  10. Well, if your opening statement "Sriphat is a very modern building and is home to somewhere in excess of 100 specialists, all of whom are associate and assistant professors....the range of medical talent there is very impressive." referred to Sriphat IPD, then I have to conclude what we live in 2 different Chiang Mai's in parallel universes. Nothing could be more far from the Sriphat IPD that I know. Have a good day.
  11. Many downsides in modern technology I agree, but if there's something that technology allows is exactly the preservation of old records and memories, you can in fact easily search for images of what you describe and see for yourself even if you were not around at least not in Thailand. And frankly, I am not sure that I want to see every woman topless, just as much as they don't really want to see me bare chest. Some women's apparel are in fact much sexier than the real thing, as proven by their price tag.
  12. To make sure, you are talking about Sriphat OPD, the new building at the end of Sirimangakalaja (sp). I concur with you, excellent place. The original Sriphat, now IPD, is however a decrepit old building with inferior services for specialist visits. I am surprised you had surgery at the new building, because I thought that (as OPD implies) they don't have overnight rooms. Unless it was a simple procedure and they sent you home the same day. I have no experience about the OP request. I would like to mention however that Bangkok Hospital CM is at least at the same level as the new Sriphat, actually in my experience better, although pricey. Both Sriphat OPD and BHCM offer packages of full tests tailored for seniors.
  13. I guess it depends on where you are/which hospital. I do it (for medical reasons) at RAM Hospital in CM, 270B, face only. They apply a kind of gel, 7 minutes, you wash it off. It requires prescription.
  14. Are you living here? If not, as it is clear from your generally misinformed posts, why do you want to relocate? FYI, the fires are in CM province, which is the largest province in Thailand. Not in CM city, and in fact the air in the past few days has been -far from good, granted- quite breathable. But to your partial excuse I have to admit that the article is intentionally misleading.
  15. It depends on the kind of blood test. If they told you that, best follow their instructions. If you want(ed) to argue, then better find out first exactly what tests they are going to carry out.
  16. If you fancy a drive to Airport Plaza in CM, next to it there is a huge GO Wholesale which has no shortage of the ingredients you are looking for. It is a bit like Makro, except with very little queues at cashier and better food (IMO).
  17. I see your TIT and I raise TIUK, TIUS, TID, TIF, TIB, TIRU, ... and a hundred more.
  18. Both official taxis and grab-like drivers know exactly what is going on. get whichever you prefer, allow for 30min more than usual just in case. There are ways to go from Warorot to Airport avoiding the moat, Huay Kaew, Nimman. e.g. heading to B11, direction of Promenada, then easy splash-free main road towards Airport Plaza. I expect the airport itself to be actually rather quiet since all Songkran arrivals have already happened and departures not yet.
  19. You seem to look for a professional, not just a shop doing portrait pictures, right? Check out this, he is established in CM since many years and author of photography books https://albertocosi.com/portrait-photography-chiang-mai/
  20. Perhaps you should inform yourself before posting. In CM province, the subject of this thread, the "big agra" and farm fires are close to zero. It is almost exclusively forest fires, and if you lived here you would know that local and central government have done more this year than in any year of the past decade. You would also know that firefighters have an almost impossible job due to the terrain, and are often confronted by angry local villagers when they try to apprehend the fire starters. They are true heroes, not just opinionated keyboard warriors like some on this forum.
  21. Scooters can drive through, I did it several times. btw, people on foot have the same rights as people in cars. If the agent brought 6 people in a van, wouldn't it be the same issue?
  22. What do you mean AI image? That is the Crab Nebula, a supernova remnant which btw being about 6000 light years away is related to the article like a picture of tom yum is related to an article on Icelandic cuisine.
  23. I was at Imm a couple of days ago, I was probably the only foreigner wearing a mask. Yesterday I saw a young farang riding his scooter at full speed (way over the limit) in 40C with PM2.5 well over 100, no shirt, no helmet, no mask. So yes, I think that crap is probably correct at least as far as foreign tourists are concerned.
  24. I paid about 76k in a large private hospital in CM, inclusive of all pre-op tests and post-op recovery in single room.
  25. I don't know about "best", but I found Dr Tapanut Ariyanon (lady) at Sriphat OPD very knowledgeable and thorough, and as a plus that new building is a joy compared to some older private establishments. Mind you, this was late 2022 and my issue was actually more about T than EN.
