Had a few month's ago a call from a "fake" PEA employee who said that I was entitled to a payback of several thousand baht because there was a reduction of the consumtion fee by the Government. If I wanted to apply for the payback i needed to scan the QR-code he would send me and fill in the documents I would receive. Did not scan anything but went the next day to the PEA office. It was a scam they said. Deleted the whole chat with the QR-code and never heard again of it.

Elderly Woman Dies After Electricity Cut Despite Pleas for Aid
Confuscious replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
Last year, I meet an American guy living in Thailand and on a wheelchair with an oxygen device. While having a chat, he noticed that his device was low on power and needed to find a 220VAC outlet fast. No backup power on the device. When a low battery sign is given, he had 10 minutes left to find a power supply. The device was rented from the hospital (name not disclosed because of stringent laws). I am not a medic, but I guess that a small oxygen bottle could have given enough oxygen for 2 a 4 hours. Enough to bypass a failure of the oxygen device. -

Most of the "Keyboard Barstool Specialists" in AseanNow can not think like you. Just jump to a conclusion and show their poor knowledge (limited to Phuket, Pattaya, etc.) about Thailand. "In a tragic turn of events, a 68-year-old bedridden woman, Kian Leephon, from Nakhon Phanom's Wang Yang district died after her electricity supply was cut, despite her niece's desperate pleas. The power outage, caused by overdue payments, disabled Kian’s oxygen concentrator, essential for her survival." -

Yesterday, I was at Central to eat lunch and drink a coffee, and noticed that all access doors to the Central mall were equipped with guards with a "scanning device". Back to 2020 ..... -
Elderly Woman Dies After Electricity Cut Despite Pleas for Aid
Confuscious replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
1. In most "CIVILISED" countries, at least my country, the electricity company is not allowed to cut the power off. In case of a default payment, a "limiter" will be installed to limit the electricity use to 2KW/month. The same goes for other public utilities such as tap water, Telephone, etc. 2. In 2004, I needed to travel back to my country to handle urgent documents. On a recommendation of my wife, I left my mother-in -law live in my house whilst we were away. I left her with the necessary cash to pay all the bills for that month. On my return, I found that the electricity meter was removed. Went to the PEA, and their answer was that if a bill is not payed after 2 weeks they have an order to remove the meter (Nakhon Ratchasima). -
The bars in Pattaya and I suppose bars everywhere started to decline with the upcoming of smartphones and social media. Where anyone could go to Pattaya, Soi Cowboy, Nana Plaza, etc. and have a lot of fun, you will find nowadays the whole staff staring at their smartphone and looking for customers on their phone.

Passenger Van Crashes into 18-Wheeler Truck, Passengers Injured
Confuscious replied to Georgealbert's topic in Isaan News
While everybody is pointing a finger at the van driver, most of these accidents are due to the truck. Most of these trucks back-lights are very poorly visible and can not be seen from a distance. Just like the motorbikes running without read lights. -
Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin
Confuscious replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Nothing to do withthe neighborhood. In Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima) they are rebuilding the Mittraphap Rd., tunneling the road between The Mall and the Macro, and a lot of workers are day-workers. Travelling back and forth on the bed of a pickup. There are in Korat "High Class" settlements like the ones in Phuket or anywhere in Thailand. But these are not for the common Thai people. Shows your attitude, supremacy, towards the "common" Thai people. -
Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin
Confuscious replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I see many Thai couples in my neighborhood climbing in the back of a pickup and go to a construction site together to try to build a future. But strange enough, the woman stops working (and the whole family retire) as soon as a foreigner comes into the equation. -
Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin
Confuscious replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That was my point, although it may have not been clear to many readers. 99% of the marriages, where both partners are Thai, they will work together and try to build up a future together. But the marriage is completely different as soon as the husband is a foreigner and the girl is mostly a bargirl. Most of these "man" will move upcountry with their teerak and spend their days in a bar with other foreigners who meet the same fate. The others will move to their country with their teerak and fabricate a story in which they meet their wife in a hospital or any high place. I have plenty of TRUE examples of this. -
Are Older Men in Thailand Trading Love for Financial Ruin
Confuscious replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
First, you need to understand that you don't buy "Love" in Thailand. You can buy "take care" and maybe "affection", but certainly not "Love". This "take care" and "affection" have a price tag. Monthly allowance for the girl; Allowance for her parents and family; A certain degree of luxuary (house, car, etc.). On top of that, if you chose to marry that girl, you will need to pay for the "Sin Sot". Failing to accomplish and of these requirements will end your marriage instantly. Marriages with a Thai girl which are based on TRUE love, where the girl will never ask to pay anything for the marriage or for her family and where the girl has her own income are far and between. The concept of marriage like we know, where the partners will both work on their future is unknown in Thailand. I have in my 24 years in this country, many Thai-Foreigner marriages see go down the gutter faster than you blink an eye and the foreigner losing a lot of money. You also need to be aware that you are a foreigner in their country and will never have the rights to build a marriage together. The dream of buying your own house and build something together will be soon smashed by the reality that this is a "NO" for foreigners. You are and will always be a second class citizen in this country. Last, but not least, be aware that most Thais (specially the north and the north-east) are ONE FAMILY. You girl is part of that family and she will always be responsable for the family. As soon as you marry, family members from every corner in Thailand will show up with their problems or their dreams and "have a word" with your girl. A loan to setup a coffee shop or a little shop, a loan for a motorbike, etc. Moaning about that loan will be the crack of your marriage.- 162 replies

Danish man stabs himself with medical knife in Bangkok hospital
Confuscious replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Wasn't being crazy a required qualification to come to Thailand? -
That's why I said that this would only work if the departments would be watched by an INDEPENDENT party who would have a say on the decision and has the power to file a court case against them. An "OMBUDSMAN" like we have in Europe. I was 5 years ago required to pay a tax in my country which I refused. The tax office treatened with "Foreclosers", taking my Pension, etc... I braught the case to the attention of the Ombudsman and a week later the case was cleared in my favor. There are many examples on how they handled bribery in Europe succesful. I also menionned a public magazine, "Test aankoop", which is fully independent and they have private lawyers who handle cases of bribery or Scam and most of these cases are closed succesfull. That's the only way out of this misery for Thailand. The whole thing starts only when users (parents) have enough of this sh*t and starts to take the law in their own hands. If a school organise a field trip and the bus is not adequate, don't send your children to that field trip until the school look for adequate transport!!!

Zebra crossings are no made for Thai drivers. NEVER USE A ZEBRA CROSSING IN THAILAND!!!! In most Westen countries, people are learning to use Zebra Crossings and other security devices from Kindergarten where Police or Zebra Crossing officers guard the users in their safety. And offenders face huge fines. As long as Thailand don't start to train their citizens the traffic rules, Zebra crossing. Stop lights, and other safety devices are death traps.

In Thailand (and in most countries of the world) obtain a court order to be paid is fairly east. Getting the money on the otherhand can be real pain in the a**. Long ago, at my divorce, my ex-wife was ordered to pay me a substancial amoust of money. I never received that money and had to pay my lawyer and court costs on top of that. I imagine that this would be even easire in Thailand as tehere are no leagal instances to claim your money.

Bangkok Streets to Undergo Significant Improvements
Confuscious replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Repairs will not have any meaning as long as the board walks in Thailand are used to support weights they are not calculated for. Board walks are not designed as a motorcyle lane. Board walks are not designed to support the weight and the dimensions of the many stall installed on them. Hire an independant inspection team to control that board walks are not used for motorbikes, illegal parking space or stalls. Allow the inspection team to fine the perpetrators and bring them to justice. The fines will serve to pay the inspection team (ZERO COST) and the board walks will stay much longer in a good state. -
For everything on this planet, there is only a market if there are buyers. Stop the buyers to buy/rent "bribed items" and the bribery will vanish too. Not recket science. If the people who rent/buy a bus "DULY INSPENT" that bus and refuse it if some minimal safery standards are not followed, the bus transport industry will update their bus fleet to avoid losses. The schools and other industries should hire people who know what inspections to carry out before allowing anybody to accept the bus(ses). There should be also an independent institution (in Belgium exists "Test Aankoop") at the top level where goods that are not according to the safety standards can be reported and banned from sale/rent and eventually prosecuted. Also, in Belgium, many departments have an independant "OMBUDSMAN" where users/buyers can go if the normal way offers no solution. Social Media offers a very good tool to expose offenders.

The driver, just like many taxi/bus/truck drivers are mostly ex-convicts who can not find a job and will accept anything to make a living. The driver of the bus FIRST went for a fire extinguisher and tried to open the doors before he ran away. The owner of the bus company has money and will buy his ass out like so many other rich Thais. Although he was cought pampering with the evidences, no arrest was made. Why? The DLT officers, like every official in Thailand, will be transferred to somewhere else and will continue their filthy businnes. THIS IS THAILAND, NOT A NANNY STATE
