  1. A few months back a carload of monks turned up at our property and wandered around checking out the farm and the views. Turned out one was a cousin of the wife. He had been a destructive alcoholic and had become a monk to clean up his life. It appeared to have worked. A week ago, she got a message that he had been carted off to the "mad house" and was not welcome back at the temple. It may not be the answer for all.
  2. what's going on there? bob. Also known as NoHo it's the arts and LGBT... center of LA. Perhaps someone thinks it would suit you.
  3. A bit of reading for those here who believe their comfort and invented safety concerns overrule the rights of less fortunate people in society who already have to cope with discrimination and access and equity issues. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities | OHCHR
  4. Not quite so simple in that case. An expired passport is not a valid travel document. Nor is an ID card. Before agreeing to uplift, the airline will have to be satisfied the document is acceptable by the destination country. This may involve contacting Immigration at the arrival port. Airlines can cop substantial fines for transporting people with unacceptable documentation.
  5. Could be worse. Life has already served you lemons and then when you have to travel urgently, you find yourself next to a loud mouthed, ignorant, selfish oaf who believes the world revolves around him.
  6. I live here, have driven the roads for many years and am well aware of the abysmal driving skills of many Thais. It's possible, but only conjecture, that she did something wrong in the initial, unrecorded incident. However, to try to transfer blame on the woman for the grub's videoed, dangerous driving and cowardly attacks, based on the poor standards of others is disingenuous. I wonder what he would have done if he had been able to open her door.
  7. A Thai citizen flying home with a valid passport. No need to check with the airline, there is absolutely no issue with uplift.
  8. So why are you here late at night? There are very many reasons why somebody, other than you, may be posting at a time your mummy taught you that you must sleep. Most of us, particularly those who venture out into the world, usually understand that people and their circumstances (and sleeping patterns) vary greatly for many reasons. Try to reason outside your little box.
  9. Georgie Boy, it's probably time to head back to church with "Mother" to pray for the souls of the damned fornicators who have forsaken their families for a life of wickedness. After all, it is your business to preach the word to all those who must have abandoned their true family because you spotted them enjoying life in a house of ill repute in a faraway country. Explain again why were you there? Everyone knows if someone lives in a country other than where born, they have become that specter of evil known as "Migrant" and need to be told where they rightly belong. Thanks for stepping up to spread the message about a world as you imagine it should be. If nothing else, it gives us all a reminder of what we left behind.
  10. Where will you place that bet, how will your theory be proven and what does your general, xenophobic rant about Thais have to do with this incident with the road raging Australian? Something must have triggered his toxic behavior, but his reaction cannot be excused by shifting blame. Combined with the previous skateboard incident, the most likely bet would be this guy has issues dangerous for both him and others in this unique country.
  11. His name is actually Jones Agamom RATUKORE. I believe the confusion with names stems from Australian passports no longer specifying which are family and given names. It confuses many in Thailand. That, and his published age, suggests to me the passport was available to the Police. His name is definitely Indonesian in origin. An Australian PP sample is below. It has red printing added to avoid name confusion. My bank account in Thailand identifies me by my given names as that is how they interpreted it. Over the years I've variously tried to change the name, the branch and my address, without success. The anomaly has never caused me a problem.
  12. As she was recording the thug at her side windows, I presumed it most likely she was using a phone not a dashcam.
  13. Unfortunately, the guy is obviously Australian and a Queenslander. Australians can have names from virtually anywhere on the planet. The origin of his name is in Indonesia. He has tickets on himself believing he is a star: Jones Ratukore - Professional Profile, Photos on StarNow - The accident, my take. He was weaving violently in front of the car in the straight through lane. She decided to cross into the left turn lane to escape him. He reacted violently to get in front of her and stopped sideways immediately in front. She couldn't react quick enough. It was 100% the bike rider's fault.
  14. I think both could use a little training about the Thai custom of wearing sun hats.
  15. The anti-deportation order was designed to confuse the members on here who call for the expulsion of every expat who commits any crime, misdemeanor or even just picks up a piece of coral on a beach.
  16. Why on earth are you the cook? One of the reasons I married a Thai was to avoid these tiresome household chores that Thai woman still regard as their territory! But seriously, some observations. Most Thais I know wouldn't touch that western style meal you expect her to enjoy. They much prefer their traditional rice and spice themed dishes. She is probably binge eating separately. Thais consume more sugar in their food than most other cultures (US is one major exception) They either over sweeten or over salt most of their food with little thought of the health risks. Liver, kidney disease and cancer are rife in Thailand. I think this diet catches up with many as they age. Most of the older women I see in my part of Thailand are spreading. It's disappointing to see, they should retain their youthful figures in the same way as we western men!
  17. You're confusing two separate incidents involving Swiss expats. The guy who beat the crap out of the unfortunate elder lady in a supermarket is not the one depicted in this thread. That guy seems to have had some sort of mental collapse after his wife left him and has lost touch with reality. The fellow who kicked the doctor, interfered with and threatened an ambulance driver on the road and carries guns illegally, has different social issues.
  18. When a newbie in Thailand, and being a little naive on the subject, I initially bought Phuket properties using this method. I had 49%of the company, the lady 48% and a Thai I didn't know (accountant's office employee) 3%. I later became very concerned about the potential ramifications, so I engaged good legal assistance, sold/transferred the assets to the Lady and closed the company. The extra cost was well worth it for peace of mind. The Lady is my wife and we have been together for 18 years..
  19. Opinions and guesswork. Let's hope it doesn't become necessary to find out.
  20. Taiwanese man dies after hospital in Thailand refuses to treat him | Thaiger (thethaiger.com)
  21. It won't be the radiation that kills most of the population, it will be the nuclear winter, caused by smoke, that will plunge the world into freezing darkness for decades and make it virtually impossible to grow food. Seethe second post in this thread.
  22. It seems he also blames the Chinese for his actions. He stated a group of them trespassed on the property earlier in the day and observed his wife in the pool. He thought they were back! As is often the case with this sort of incident, money talks. If he offers enough to his victim, it won't get to court. May cost him a couple of months' rent.
  23. Which continent did you think included the countries joining North and South and all the scattered Island nations in the region? I will admit I couldn't have drawn the boundary between the two continents. Check out who's included in the continent of Oceania to really blow your mind .
  24. Try to understand what is being explained to you. A Doctor (Ophthalmologist) will not make your glasses. It's the same as expecting an architect to lay the bricks in your house. You need to go to an Optometrist shop to get your eyes tested and glasses made. There must be plenty of shops with English speaking staff in Pattaya. How well trained is anyone's guess.
  25. The Thai wife won the lottery by finding a very rich falang husband and people here really believe she wouldn't support him to the fullest extent!!
