  1. That’s the headline but the article implies that the shocks were an issue? As normal news articles translated into English can cause more confusion than clarity.
  2. Do not see what the issue is. If an Airline can require a large passenger to buy two seats then the Food Delivery driver who can offer cheap rides can decline a customer for safety reasons.
  3. My parents came to America with very little. Life was never easy but I found opportunities to improve my life many times. It all started with the. US Army and then I was able to work and find other opportunities. I still have allegiance, loyalty and a dose of patriotism. As a long time international traveler I just don’t broadcast my thoughts out loud. I am certain at some point I will return to the USA on a permanent basis. Also on the US Income Tax issue I pay because my retirement income comes from the State of California so I can’t exclude that no matter where I am in the world. When I worked in the Middle East I was able to exclude this income because it was earned overseas.
  4. My #1 requirement is an international airport. Cebu meets that requirement.
  5. First youtube video about Dumagette I saw was in 2015. It was popular back then. A current youtuber in the Phils (that is what he calls it) said Dumagette is now overrun with foreigners. I am going to Cebu later this year to see if I want to make the Phils my next destination.
  6. Sarcasm. Some get it, some don’t Do you really think I was being serious in my reply? You started it. I made a general comment that was not directed at anyone. I do not know who or what your are so I do not know whether it was “jokey banter” or not. If this is :”sniffy butt hurt attitude” to you then so be ti. I would not disagree with your opinion.
  7. Yes because it is deep, murky and infested with sharks.
  8. Thank you. It’s amazing that you knew what I looked like when I was in my 30’s and 40’s.
  9. I have encountered many just like this one when I was in the dating pool in Southern California during the 1990’s and 2000’s. The other kind I encountered were the feminist/equality type who got offended when a man would approach her and offer buy them a drink. “What, you don’t think I can’t afford to pay for my own drink”????? Dating in American is like “catch 22”. I have never been married and had little desire for it.
  10. No because I will fly them again because it is a nonstop flight from CNX to SIN. From SIN then onwards to the first world.
  11. Have experienced what an “upgrade” is like on Scoot? Also, Scoot like Air Asia charges for almost everything. I was shocked when Scoot did not charge me for having a backpack as I checked in.
  12. CNX to SIN is on Scoot(SIA's low cost carrier). Scoot uses an old A320 for this segment. The experience with Scoot from CNX to SIN was less than impressive. Do you know what type of aircraft is from SIN to BNE? It could be B777, B787 or A350-900? Aircraft type would probably answer your question.
  13. Maybe it should have been something like "Ministry for Enviornmental Protection and Sustainable Development"???
  14. You summed it up: "Cost effective for Americans" and many other foreigners. If it was not then how many foreigners would stay?
  15. Ok. Captain Obvious, thank you. I said "what he is like" not what he looks like"? Sometimes an ambassador speaks like a real person and not like a career bureaucrat. I heard two Ambassadors to Afghanistan speak in Kabul. One was a retired Army General and the other was a State Department lifer.
  16. Yes I know about the 3 year extension plan but the SRRV is lifetime once it is granted. On an SRRV one has multiple entry and exit without the need to get an Exit Clearance, Lots of advantages to the SRRV. Option one requires a $20,000 deposit, Option 2 requires a $10,000 deposit with a $1,000 month pension and Option 4 requires one to be a military veteran along with a $1500 deposit plus a $1,000 month pension. I am considering Options 2 and 4. The application process is like the Non Imm OA but the application fee is $1400 and the annual renewal fee is $360. The SRRV is not for everyone. To me ti it seem like a hassle to get 4 or 5 extensions per year. Based upon my research each extension in the Phils is about $50 to $60 dollars. Of course plenty of Visa agents are in the Phils as well so they can do the extension for you. For a very long time I have considered the Phils as my next destination.
  17. I am conducting research on the SRRV long term visa issued by the PRA(Philippines Retirement Authority). For me the SRRV looks promising. The SRRV is very different from the Thai Non Imm OA or O. I am going to Cebu later this year to confirm whether or not I want to pursue the SRRV or not.
  18. The U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai invites U.S. citizens in Chiang Mai and nearby districts to attend a townhall meeting with Ambassador Robert F. Godec, on August 29th from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Topics will include Mission Thailand priorities and frequently asked questions about consular services. I am going to see what the Ambassador is like.
  19. It’s cheap and comfortable. I can get most of the things I want in LOS. Routine health care is affordable. I have serious doubts about Emergency or even Trauma level medical care in LOS. I have doubts about any kind of Emergency type of rescue response in LOS. Just imagine you ore on the 18th floor of a condo in BKK and a fire breaks out or you are having a heart attack, what would the response be? Otherwise it is a good place to stay for awhile.
  20. In California it can be. 240 of the California Penal Code. I have never arrested anyone for attempted assault unless a weapon was used (for instance swinging a baseball bat at someone could amount to an attempted assault with a deadly weapon).
  21. LAX, yes it does occur and not all incidents make it on the news or on youtube. However I do agree with you on the "quota" hiring practices of large American Police Departments. I know because i spent 20 years on one this departments located in Southern California. I won't name it but you can guess. Also, this video only captures about 2 minutes of this entire incident. It does not offer the full context.
  22. 90K per month sounds about right. A few years ago Al Jazeera aired a documentary about an old folks home in Chiang Mai and the per month cost was about $3000. One of the residents was from Europe and she had developed Alzheimers in her 50's and the family chose to place her in this home. The actual home looked nice and there were plenty of young Thai men and women who took care of the residents. I just can't recall the name of the home.
  23. “Agree that police officers shouldn't be assaulted, but you know what - it's part of their job - and they handled this skateboard swinging Chinaman easily without resorting to drastic measures.” In all my years in policing I never felt it was part of my job to get assaulted. I did get verbally assaulted almost every day. “
