Quick Analysis: With Pita Gone, What Happens Next?
sqwakvfr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I like the way Mr. Pita left. He made a short speech, took off his I.D. Badge, placed it on the desk, walk down and gave a fist salute. In essence he was saying "you won this round but it is not over". As time go by others like him will emerge. Also, "the world is watching and this was not a good like for the Land of Smiles".- 65 replies

Compared to American TV shows British content is still Golden. From Inspector Morse and then Lewis to Line of Duty and Doc Martin reruns are better than the crap that comes from ABC, NBC, CBS or Fox. Oh yeah and the classic BroadChurch with the great David Tennant and Olivia Coleman(the next Judi Dench) are shining examples of great television and acting.

I just saw an interview on Youtube. It was a Brit who had been married to a Thai lady. They were married for 8 years and together for 10 year.s. The title of the interview was “My wife died and I found out she had AIDS on the day she died”. It was one of the most interesting interviews I had seen. I then asked myself this question: What would I do if my wife or girlfriend had told me she was HIV positive? What would any of us do? Get angry, run as fast I can to a clinic for an HIV test or stay and be supportive the woman? I hope I never have to face this question.

“General Surachate Hakparn ordering a crackdown and a tightening of Immigration Bureau screening of visa applicants particularly for retirement visas applicants who may have links to crime. He also has ordered police to pay special attention to organised groups with distinctive tattoos and who ride Harley Davidson motorcycles.” 1. Tightening retirement visa screening? If it is to filter out those with organized criminal affiliations then a fingerprint criminal background from the home country could be considered. This could be difficult for Non O Retirement applications done in LOS. In most cases one has to actually go back to the home country to do this. This is already a requirement for an OA Visa done at Thai Embassies. 2. Tattoos and Harleys? Hmm, are we talking about Sons of Anarchy or eve Mayans MC? Just another day in paradise.

Maybe he is there to visit his LDR Girlfriend.

1 Do not have an oven 2. Never liked key lime pie. Might just have to wait a couple months until I get back to Los Angeles and have some Apple Pie and Pecan Pie.

Police Prepare For Nationwide Protests, Parliament Heavily Guarded

Maybe I won't go to Bangkok this month. Was planning on an Apple Store and Shake Shack run next week but? -
On the bottom right of the App go to Account. Then go to Help Center. The scroll down to Call us. I have called several times. I have always gotten an English Speaker and stated my complaints. One of the issues was being charged even though the driver never showed up. The money was returned the next day.

Connda or Canada? Also, who cares. What does my forum handle or your forum handle have anything to do with the subject? Since you can’t do “stupid” then can you do ignorant and uninformed?

Grab or Grap? Anyway I have not used cash with Grab for years. Most drivers (food and transport) prefer it this way. I am in CNX and most of the Grab drivers I have encountered have been good. From time to time I have dealt with lazy driver who had dropped the food at the first apartment building in the complex (I live in a 6 building complex). This ticked me off and I notified Grab that I did not get the food. The driver was forced to come back and actually hand to food to me as I was waiting in front of my building. On this delivery of course a one star rating and no tip.

Listening to UK radio online (and watching tv playback come to that)
sqwakvfr replied to Kevin1908's topic in Audio Visual AV
Same in my case I tried to listen to Los Angeles Dodgers games on a local Los Angeles radio station online and was blocked. I used a VPN and it worked for a while. Now the radio station has a VPN detector and I am blocked again. Have been a Dodgers fan for many years and had to pony up the money for MLB streaming. Small price to pay for living in LOS. -
US Supreme Court strikes down student loan forgiveness plan
sqwakvfr replied to Social Media's topic in World News
In the ancient times of the 1980’s I took out student loans. I paid them all back. I took jobs many of the 20’s today would never consider: 1) midnight shift at 7-11 2) Deliver newspapers 3) Weekend drills with the California National Guard. All this while pursuing full time employment. In the late 1980’s the job market in the US was just as tough as it is now. TFB (Too Frickin Bad) now start making payments. Also, if student loans were to be given to alleviate the financial hardships on the graduates then what next? Yes I know banks were bailed out back in 2008 but most graduates with degrees that are not relevant to the current job market aren not “Too Big to fail”. Whether you like him or despise him Dave Ramsey has a strong opinion on this and I totally agree with him( this rarely occurs). -
Based upon professional most who threaten to commit suicide rarely go through with it. It's the quiet ones who usually carry things out into the great unknown. He will not get much sympathy or empathy from anyone (from Thai or Foreigner).

Why you should never leave a negative hotel review in Thailand
sqwakvfr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I just tell everyone that i know to never go to that XXXX hotel. Sometimes word of mouth has an impact on a business. Also, one of the GM’s was a foreigner (not too many Thai’s are named Carol?) and sounded like she actually heard what I was saying. In the end I told her the biggest problem was her employees who were lazy and rude. I think this is her biggest battle: How to motivate a person from the Sa Bai, Sa Bai culture to have a sense of urgency or simply give a dam about Customer service and satisfaction. “The Truth is usually painful and most in LOS can’t handle it”. -

Why you should never leave a negative hotel review in Thailand
sqwakvfr replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
In the last year I have sent lengthy emails to the General Managers of high end hotels in Chiang Mai with a list of complaints. Both responded with lengthy emails. I have never left a hotel review on google or TripAdvisor. Better to ask to speak to a manager upon checkout. As usual if the manager is not available then start typing. If the hotel is part of corporate chain then most will respond. I doubt a stand alone hotel in LOS will ever respond to an email complaint. -
We need a serious conversation about Joe Biden’s brain !

Typically and not always. I used to work in a very liberal city in Los Angeles County and I have encountered left leaning "Uncle Joes" many times. -

Joe is like the crazy uncle that families see during Thanksgiving. Unfortunately crazy uncle joe was elected president and it looks like he is awake long enough to read a tele-prompter, have his photo taken and smell womens' hair. Anyway only 18 more months to go. But who is a better alternative? Kamala, Pete Buttieg or California Governor Gavin Newsom(I was a life long CA resident and simply NO WAY on Gavin). -

AOT Forms Committee to Probe Walkway Incident

When Space Shuttle Challenger blew up on take a committe was formed. When an aircraft crashes an investigative team is dispatched to determine the cause. When a people mover/escalator causes an accident that results in a serious injury one or two experts in the field should be able to figure it out. -
I had to deposit some cash into my Bangkok Bank account this morning and went the Nimman Branch in CNX. The CDM(Cash Deposit Machine) was not working so I had get a number and see a teller. Only one teller was working and there were at least fifteen people waiting. It took an hour for my number to be called. While I was waiting I saw the employee at the New Accounts desk reject three foreigners who wanted to open account. All the rejected foreigners had tourist visas. The bank employee said only foreigners on long term visa can open an account. She also mentioned that if one is on an educational visa it must be from a University and not an academy. I interpret this to mean that language ed visa or a self defense ed visa cannot be used to open an account at Bangkok Bank. Has anyone heard the same?
