  1. It would actually be 24 times a month so $30. Depending on the ride I normally give Grab drivers a 20 baht tip.
  2. Oh, I have and continue to. Never stop learning.
  3. On this one I can't blame old Nate. In many parts of the world Police and Fire are hired to be in tv shows, movies and even silly youtube vdieos. It is up to the chief or the commanding officer to decide if any project is appropriate or not? I wonder how much the pay was?
  4. Nothing? It depends on perspective. You know what that means?
  5. Thanks. I haven’t had my first beer yet.
  6. Wow, you know me so well based upon a few comments. I do not judge the choices people make because I do not judge people. I do not know anyone on this forum. This is a good thing. Also, what do you know about my life, my economics, or my choices? The answer is nothing. Conversely I know nothing about you. This is also a good thing. I am wake. I am real I live in reality. It’s not like I have to prove anything but your judgement about or my life and experiences are: Completely wrong.
  7. Not so easy to cultivate. Walking on this particular stretch of road is not really a choice; It is a necessity because I live in this part of town and not all outings are far enough to justify ride in a vehicle. I never said “Mind over matter is monk thing”. I just it used that example to say not all can master it. Very few can actually master it. In my professional experience the phrase “grace under pressure” was the mantra. In the end it is just another case of “we agree to disagree”. Everyone has an opinion.
  8. Always ensure the first version of the story is airtight. The best spokespeople usually reply at the first news conference: “no comment until the investigation has been completed”. I believe the “misunderstanding” explanation has been overplayed.
  9. Great advice. If I ever get run over by a moped I will keep that in mind. “Mind over matter”. Of course anyone can say this to others but does mean one can actually practice it? Even some Monks can’t exhibit “mind over matter”.
  10. So you have walked 26,000 Kilometers on Huay Kaew Road? I walk 2 Km round trip 6 times a week. So in terms of numbers you win.
  11. I adapt and complain at the same time. It’s called Multi-Tasking. I walk it 6 days a week. How many times have you walked this part of Huay Kaew Road? At least when I was in Afghanistan there were few sidewalks so it was not an issue. When I was in Haiti it was so crowded one could rarely see an actual sidewalk. Made the mistake of paying for a yearly gym membership(not a smart move in LOS). As the saying goes “no refund for membership, sorry”.
  12. Grab or a Tuk Tuk for a 1 Kim ride 6 days as week?
  13. Ahh Ha. Sarcasm, a concept that I truly appreciate. Also, I value your comments because you must be a brilliant Civil Engineer?
  14. ? Huay Kaew road is not the world. It is one messed road/sidewalk.
  15. But the problem is the gym is on HK road. No back way to get there. There is a back way to Nimman.
  16. Are there any retired Civil Engineers or Urban Planners out there? I ask because both the north and south sidewalks on Huay Kaew Road from Ram Hospital to Maya have been torn up and are at various stages of improvement. I am all for civic improvement but I have zero experience in Civil Engineering or Urban Planning and I thought it seems unusual for both sidewalks to be unwalkable or difficult to navigate at the same time. The only option for those who walk is to get on the street either with or against vehicle traffic. I have never seen anything like this anywhere else I have been to.
  17. Ok great idea. So no pork or anything with pork or pork oil. Also, some fermented foods could be a No Go because sometimes fermentation could result in Alcohol. I was in Japan some years ago and a group from an undisclosed country west of KSA got really upset because they could taste soy sauce? I said "What the Heck"? The angry guests said soy sauce contains alcohol because it is fermented. I never knew that. As the saying goes "might not be worth the trouble"? Of course a Chang or Singha with dinner would out of the question (unless nobody is watching).
  18. Each will have differences in the “Amazing Thailand” experience. Many good, some bad and some in the middle.
  19. I have never worked with a Forensics Technician that was 23 years old. Most are much older because of the education and training that is “normally” required. But were in LOS so “normal” may not apply. I have two questions (like she cares but why not)? 1. Does she know how to lift a fingerprint at a crime scene? 2. Has she ever obtained latent fingerprints by other means than powder? Like superglue fuming or Ninhydrin? In the end “the more attractive you are, the faster you climb the career ladder”. Good luck to her and possibly Chief of Police?
  20. Many years ago in Los Angeles we received multiple reports of a freelance male massage “therapist” who offered massages at the clients home. The male massage “therapist” usually approached attractive women at public parks or the beach. He was able to convince 5 women to hire him. In the end he was arrested, tried and convicted of 5 counts of digital rape(his finger(s)). As far as I know he is still in prison. Generally if the client gives consent before then “no crime”.
  21. Do you have a sense of humor? Also, as a foreigner how would I "fit in here"? Most Thai people will likely never accept me into their community even if I spoke fluent Thai.
  22. I understand how Austin feels. I look at it now this way: 1. Men are from Mars 2 Women are from Venus 3. Thai people are from Pluto. 4. Don’t go to war over 50 Baht. It the issue was 500 Baht then I would agree with him. I will never understand them. I limit my interactions with the local people to the bare minimum. I have my space and they have their space. We intersect only if I need to make a purchase, got out to eat and once in a while get a massage.
