Thai Economy Stable as Government Tackles Earthquake Aftermath
JimHuaHin replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
As most of us know, Japan is more prone to earthquakes than Thailand. We also know, over many decades Japanese governments have changed building regulations and building inspection requirements in an attempt to minimize damage and loss of life when the next earthquake hits. Japanese governments have been, and continue to be, proactive with respect to natural disasters. Meanwhile, in Thailand ... -
Now they can turn their attention to building standards. I note in today's news an item which revealed that Thai public hospitals in 17 provinces were damaged by the earthquake. More than 17 Ministry of Public Health hospitals!!!! Should not this issue be investigated, especially with all the kickbacks involved?

BMA Declares All 81 Bangkok Bridges Safe Post-Myanmar Quake
JimHuaHin replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
That was quick - a complete comprehensive examination of all bridges - from end to end and top to bottom (including under water) - was completed by highly qualified fully certified structural engineers - and the bridges are all safe. Now they can start on the hundreds of kilometres of raised motor ways and the hundreds of kilometres of BTS lines - inspections to be competed by the end of this month? -

Taking any medication is potentially fatal, just as is any "simple" surgery. Consumer beware, and take precautions. Personally, after I receive any vaccine I always remain in the hospital/clinic for an hour just in case there any adverse side-effects. Similarly, if I take any new medication, I am alert to any adverse side-effects and ready to cal 1669 if any appear.

JimHuaHin replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Big big brother has arrived. Added to that all the data DOGE has collected, the new improved neo-Nazi Fascist xAI will act to identify the enemies, vilify them on Musk social media, and allow the Trump-Vance-Musk storm-troopers to terminate them. Germany 1930 repeat. -

Bangkok Declared Disaster Zone Following Powerful Myanmar Earthquake
JimHuaHin replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
Your last paragraph says it all. Seeing the high rise "water falls" was one thing; but seeing many many images on social media of the damage done to many buildings, one has to question not only the quality of the construction, but also the ability of Thai emergency services to cope with a "small" disaster. Seeing many videos of people running out of buildings and along streets in downtown Bangkok, I thought, what would happen if a few of these tall buildings collapsed, if a building collapsed onto a BTS track? Yesterday's quakes just needed to be one magnitude stronger or a few hundred kilometres closer to Bangkok, then ... Another report this morning stated that Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt ordered 130 building inspectors to inspect structures - only 130 inspectors for all of Bangkok, how long will it take to just inspect any building which sustained damage yesterday? -

Bitter Blowback: Govt Slammed for '73 Days of Uyghur Lies'
JimHuaHin replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thailand had the opportunity to resettle these refugees a decade ago, after the UNHCR arranged resettlement offers in Canada and the USA. But Thailand, being a racist Chinese pawn, rejected these offers (probably in hope of using the refugees in dicussions over some issue involving China). I am reading an article at present on the presentation of ethnic minority groups in Thai literature over the past 200-odd years. Up until the beginning of last century, such presentations were favourable and respectful of these ethnic minorities. Around the 1920s and 1930s a few disparaging comments appears in some literature. However, it was not until the 1950s that such negative racist presentations began in earnest. -

My wife went to the dentist - Not sure what to do next.
JimHuaHin replied to tomgreen's topic in Health and Medicine
I am 69.3 years young; I have the same tooth missing (and have had so for about 6 years). I decided not to replace it. My dentist recommended a partial denture when (not if) I loose any more upper teeth. About 7 years ago I paid for my then gf (a nurse in a government hospital) to have an inplant for a removed lower tooth - the cost was about Baht 30,000 for memory. At a private clinic you may pay 50% extra , and 100+% at a private hospital. -
