  1. I guess you're only talking about Hua Hin? While there was very little activity during COVID (no tourists and such), there were several arrests in Bangkok. More recently, 2 foreigners were escorted out the building neighbouring condo just over a week back - someone complained about smoking on balcony, juristic visited the room, found undocumented tenants, and called the cops. To be fair, they have warning signs all over lobby. No idea what happened with guests, but they didn't return. Taking info from condo's Urbanice app social board. In our condo we have a few rooms renting out rooms on AirBNB, but we usually see same foreigners around for several weeks. They are mostly young couples. All it takes is one resident getting upset and making a complaint, though... And about "there is no law against renting a condo for a short time", I assume you read this: https://www.juslaws.com/articles/renting-out-a-condominium-on-airbnb-in-thailand If a court rules that something is illegal, are you still claiming the law doesn't exist? What basis did the court rule that short term rental violates the hotel act then? Please substantiate with a comment from a law firm at least, not a personal bar stool opinion.
  2. @henrik2000 Any rental shorter 30 days at a condo (or any place without hotel license) is illegal. Worst thing that can happen is any neighbour reporting you to juristic office, and since you cannot register there for less than 30 days (they'll ask for your rental contract), juristic officer calls the cops and accuse you of trespassing, which could land you in jail - like a bunch of Chinese at a (one letter) condo in lower Sukhumvit. Stay in hotel.
  3. I'm shocked! That it is only now, and only 24 districts. Darn it, air has been toxic for a couple of weeks now, and today it looks a lot better than a few days ago...
  4. I've had True (hated them), then 3BB (to get away from True), then AIS (because of Playbox, to get away from TrueVisions), and now... well, True again as they are the only ones that provide high speed (that means over 1Gbps up/down) connection at this condo. While True was pathetic 15 years ago, and 3BB such a breeze to deal with I actually didn't want to cancel their line for nearly a year although I already had AIS fiber... I should say that I have not had much problems with them. A couple of issues when the data center for the area had outage that lasted an hour or so, that's once a year maybe. During that time they gave 5 GB or 10 GB of additional data by code to mobile phone's internet plan... which I never used. But overall, they are responsive, clear in answers, and provide a very fast service. One annoying thing is all in one router (doesn't have that external fiber modem) from Huawei. While it's fast and LAN very reliable, it has drop-outs on WiFi. After True did all they could to bring it down to 1-2 times a day, 10-20 seconds outage (very annoying when it was happening often), I've eventually given up, and got another Wifi router. Absolutely no complaints since. AIS was very good, much cheaper (in package with Platinum TV package) and also very good to deal with. It's just pity they max out at 250 Mbps at my place, else I'd stay with them. Their ZTE router was very fast and reliable. In many years of using their service I've never had a single problem with it. 3BB at least was great years back but no idea how they are now. They did make it easy to return router and cancel the subscription though. ToT was... terrible. Speed was awful internationally, and even locally it never came anywhere near the agreed speed package. CAT not bad at all. Reliable and quite fast. I don't know how this works now that the 2 merged for new customers, but those who were on CAT from before merger, it's actually very fast and reliable.... BUT... they are government company. Meaning, they don't do anything remotely, have to go to their branch during office hours only for ANYTHING. Which is a real pain. Taking a day off just to go talk to your telecom... Don't know if it's any different in Bangkok, but while True/3BB/AIS/True again are in Bangkok, the CAT is not at this place but a bit south. Though... to cancel TOT (True sold my fixed line to TOT some years back, which I never bothered to cancel despite not using it... for that 107 baht a month it wasn't worth a hassle) I had to go to TOT office. That was in Bangkok 2 years back. Never had any other, so can't comment.
  5. First thing to do is contact your credit card company and let them know of situation. They are generally interested in getting the money back, so while they will suspend your card, they would likely come up with a repayment plan so you can return that in monthly installments. But without a job/income, that might be tough for you. During the time of repayment, there is also a fixed interest rate on the outstanding amount that you would need to agree to. Every 6 months credit card company sends a letter to credit bureau, and for the months of suspension they will change status from normal (10) to something else. This will be an issue if you try to get a loan or another credit card in the future. But banks, after you have cleared debt with them, might resume your current card, so at least there's a way out. But of course if you default even on a repayment plan, then bank would likely sell your debt to a collection company, which would be far less understanding.
  6. The only way I can think of it to buy a ticket back home, apply for new passport on the first day you arrive (many countries only need a couple of days to issue a new one), and then fly off to the destination where you would need to go for work anyway, and from there to Thailand if you need to. If you live in Thailand, then entering visa exempt 45 days isn't really the right way. But at the same time - you don't need to worry about any Thai visa or extension transfers as you have none. For other countries, if you have any visas, you'll of course need to get them reissued by that countries' embassies or consulates, as once damaged, it's not common to be able to get it reissued without applying new one. It'll be a bit expensive lesson (depending what your original citizenship is), but probably the fastest way to get this resolved.
  7. Thank you for letting Putin know. Now he can't do much elsewhere, but he now knows Zelensky will probably be taking a train from Poland back to Kyiv. You keep your mouth shut about stuff like this until the man is back home safely. But then... European leaders were tweeting out of train on the way to Kyiv in the middle of bombardment, even saying Russia would not attack train service so it's the safest way to travel... I guess people nowadays are really hungry for publicity and lack any judgement for consequences of their actions...
  8. If you get PR, so your permanent residence is within Thailand, you will get Non-quota immigrant visa should you need to re-enter.
  9. The family is at the dining table. The little 10-year-old girl does not eat and has her nose in her plate…. After a few moments, she says, “I’ve something to tell you people.” Silence around the table. “I’m no longer virgin”, and she begins to cry. A long silence again. And then… The father screams at his wife, “It’s your fault! Always dressed and made up like a whore! Do you think you are setting a good example for your daughter. Wallowing the whole day on the sofa, exposing your boobs… it’s disgusting! That’s how problems arrive.” The wife, in turn, yells at her husband, “What about you ? Are YOU setting a good example ? Wasting your salary on sluts who sometimes even accompany you to your doorstep! Are YOU setting a good example for your 10-year-old daughter?” The father continues, “And her elder sister, this good-for-nothing, with her hairy junkie of a boyfriend, who is always groping her in all the corners of the house. Do you believe she is setting a good example for her younger sister?” And the recriminations go on, and on, and on…. The grandmother touches the shoulder of the little granddaughter to console her, and asks her, “Well, my little girl, how did it happen?” And the little girl replies while stifling her sobs, “It’s the priest.” The grandmother asks, "What do you mean, the priest ?” “The priest has chosen another girl to be Virgin Mary in the Christmas play. I’m no longer playing the role of Virgin Mary.”
  10. Do we expect update where Chinese is arrested for not being able to demonstrate the source of income? In Thailand you never know...
  11. That's oxymoron. Increasing rates cools economy.... ??? What's next? Let's continue lowering everyone's salaries until they are rich?
  12. There are a lot of low quality electrical products for sale in Thailand. Both online and at online merchants. Often those are very poorly made, especially the ones mimicking brand name products, which carry a significant risk of electrocution and fire. Phone chargers with very poor separation between high and low voltage sides, or items crammed into too small space to look like the real thing, causing lack of ventilation/overheat can quickly turn into disaster. Thailand doesn't seem to be doing much to stop imports of this rubbish, mostly from China, nor do customers care how much buying a cheap knock-off can cost them. This fire starting in bedroom, there could be some appliance was left turned on and overheated due to malfunction, or maybe left on blanket, blocking ventilation holes, but I believe in the end it will quite likely come down to some poorly constructed USB charger overheating and bursting into flames. For insensitive comments about finding the Indian family... It's holiday season. Maybe they simply went traveling. Try to put yourself in their shoes - you return home just to find that your place burned down... Good feeling? Doubt that.
  13. Hopefully she met "Na" and that photo is of the actual fraudster. If so, then Na isn't overly clever, since surely it's possible to match her photos to a database and discover her identity. Most such fraudsters would use someone else's photo and never meet in person. That way it's very difficult to trace them. It's a painful lesson for A but I think she will avoid jail time. At the same time, there will be one less guillible Thai available to criminal gangs.
  14. Assuming you have set up fingerprint or camera login. In that case click on the first option (Keep storing my data) and click Next bottom right.
  15. Welcare are much cheaper than 3M and are FDA approved to same standards as 3M. Just put welcare thailand official in the search in Lazada.
  16. Some "not major" airlines arriving to Bangkok today (listed from Suvarnabhumi airport arrivals - https://www.bangkokairportonline.com/flight-status-arrivals-departures/) : Japan Airlines, All Nippon Airways (ANA), Air Canada, SriLankan Airlines, Qatar Airways, FinnAir, Oman Air, Air India, Etihad, Scoot, Greater Bay Airlines, Air Asia, Bangkok Airways, Thai Airways, Thai Smile, Myanmar Airlines, Air Astana, Jetstar, Gulf Air, China Airlines, Hong Kong Express, Cebu Pacific, Turkish Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Swiss, Cathay Pacific, EVA Air, Aeroflot, El Al, Royal Brunei, Philippines Airlines, Korean Air, Malaysia Airlines, Starlux, KLM, Royal Jordanian, IndiGo, Saudia, Biman, Austrian, Shanghai Airlines, Qantas, Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Air India, VietJet, SpiceJet, Lao Airlines, Go First, Kenya Airways, US-Bangla Airlines, Spring Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines, Lanmei Airlines, Kunming Airlines, Bamboo Airways, Cambodia Airways,... I guess British Airways must be one of the very few "major airlines" and only their arrival would deal a blow to THAI airways' monopoly in Bangkok...?
  17. Your wife (and other legitimate Thais) would have familiar DNA matches with relatives. A mainlander who stole identity will not have that. Certainly there are cases of adoptions and ... "milkman visits turned (re)productive", but it would weed out ability to steal identity. Also it would make it scientifically interesting exercise.
  18. Only experience with Haier HA-105x (~9k baht now: https://shopee.co.th/Haier-Oxygen-Concentrator-HA105-ขนาด-7-ลิตร-เครื่องผลิตออกซิเจน-ขนาดเครื่องกำเนิดออกซิเจนในครัวเรือนเครื่องช่วยหายใจออกซ-i.478038952.8077364073 - from Google search just now) which was bought maybe a year-year and a half ago. It definitely increases oxygen in air, seeing the oximeter jumping to 100 very quickly. Mine has settings up to 93% oxygen but that decreases the amount of air that it produces. The sound it makes is like someone breathing heavily, so I can't see how you could be sound asleep next to it. But overall it is neat, has a fancy digital display (all in Chinese) and yells at you in Chinese every time you press any button. Apart from this, the only other downside is the HEPA filter it has on the air intake - while Haier was generous in adding a few spares and several different masks, sooner or later you run out and there doesn't seem to be a place to buy those spare parts. Maybe worth consideration if you're choosing one. Overall... it's a good thing. It was bough for "in case it's needed" and used a few times when not feeling well, which worked very well.
  19. I do know several personally. I will not put the hospital names and the names of affected here for obvious reasons. But let's say one is in off Petchaburi road, another is in near Rama 9, one more in Thonburi. Then of course there are several reports of patients dying when not being treated for not paying up-front and being sent elsewhere (hospital off Rama 9 road) - that was published in the media and was similar situation to a friend of mine. Your turn now to prove it doesn't happen.
  20. I know so many cases where emergency care was refused unless patient coughed up money up-front. But that wasn't even what I was referring to. What I was referring to was that he would need to show documentation to hospital, which would likely contact immigration upon inspecting the papers especially if hospitalisation was required... which has happened before. So in case this man is hospitalised and recovers, his next lodge would likely be detention center awaiting deportation after he pays off penalties and buys a plane ticket home.
