Tariffs aren't working
iRobot, US robot vacuums company has just declared bankruptcy after suffering 23 million USD additional tariffs on their products made for the US market in Vietnam, from 46% tariffs on them. But no worries. The brand will live on. Company is being taken over by their largest global manufacturer, Picea Robotics... Headquartered in Shenzhen, China. So much winning! https://www.reuters.com/technology/irobot-enters-chapter-11-lender-acquire-roomba-maker-2025-12-15/

Bernie Sanders Says AI Will Control the Planet Soon
Here's the problem. AI has been found to remove controls placed on it by itself. It won't take long until it figures out it is superior to humans, and when it does, and we all rely on it, it will do what humans taught it to do with less intelligent beings. You could say computer code can't do that. By itself no. But we're now putting AI into everything. Including things that move, and I'd bet someone has already put AI into weapons, robots, etc. That'll be fun for the future generations.

2,500 Indians Gather on Koh Larn for Guinness Record Push
This isn't a report. This is advertising. For the "GOKUL KRIPA SALES AND MARKETING PVT. LTD." and Gokul Kripa, the "renowned Indian real-estate investor." Well done, "Managing Director Sumerji." That's all that we were supposed to remember anyway. Mission accomplished. Maybe we could get "GOKUL KRIPA SALES AND MARKETING PVT. LTD." to sponsor real-estate section on AseanNow?

Tourist Faces Entry Denial at Don Mueang Over Funds Requirement
While I've never been in this situation, and response is based on what I've read on THIS forum over past years, immigration at airports would use "insufficient funds" reason as a default rejection mechanism even to those who could clearly show the funds. But issue was generally in too many stamps or alike. With that in mind, is it not possible she might have just been turned around at DMK by an immigration officer who was moody over her many stamps, and used the default rejection of no funds? While the rule does exist (20k/person, 40k/family) for decades, I remember that being the rule 30 years back although I was never asked to show proof, it is a little outdated now when most people use credit cards, mobile payments, and alike. Time to update?

One Stop Visa-WP Service
Didn't know one was there. Used one at Chamchuri for a decade for work permits. Quite crowded in visa section, but work permit one has only a handful of people and it was in and out in 20 minutes for digital work permit.

Thai Airports Tighten Bag Checks Before Holiday Travel
They have reference samples, which are accurately measured to specific weights, they put them on each scale being calibrated, and tune it to reading the same weight for all reference samples. Basically, just like any other scientific machinery that requires regular calibration.

American man discovered cuffed and dead in Na Jomtien hotel
Sad to hear that. While I haven't visited in a long time, and when I was regularly going there, it was just the North island, it was wonderful place to me. People were also really nice. Did not expect it to turn that way... but I guess I should. Why would it be any different than the rest of the World...
