Never get married in a country that forces you to endow her with all your worldly goods plus 19 years of child support, enforced by the courts.

I think you're worrying about the wrong things. The house is gone, the kid is probably also gone (or will be soon). But 19 years child maintenance is not gone, and a real worry in the UK. And her willingness to tell tales of 'drunkenness and cruelty' (Sunny Afternoon) to the court/police is also not gone. Sorry if you find my comments a bit cynical, but nearly all the expats posting on this forum have seen this game played out time and again, not only on us, but on our pals. Protecting yourself comes first. As for Thai schools, I've had a daughter go all the way through Thai government school and university, no problems at all, and a son age 12 currently in Thai government school (CEP = Chinese and English Programme) doing very well with no problems at trivial cost (8kbht/term). I used to hike or trail run nearly every day (when I was a few years younger). Hiking and cycling around Chiang Mai is exceptional. There's at least two western orientated free hiking groups if you don't know the trails. I'm still cycling 25km nearly every day, and the weather most mornings is amazing.

But that's just you, A few years back I had no problems hiking/jogging/cycling through the jungle/mountains all day. Now I'm reduced to cycling 25-45km/day but at home the doors and windows are all open all day, every day.

I like the warm weather and being able to go out cycling nearly every morning. But I'd be equally happy to do that in Cambodia/Vietnam/Philippines.

Hot never bothers me, do you use air-con a lot? One of my pals insists on a fan when we're sitting outside at mid-day, but I never bother if on my own.

Back home in the UK it's too wet/windy/cold to go out most of the year, so you need more room. Here in Thailand the weather is great year round, so you can sit outside or wander around, and only really need space to sleep at night. I'm always impressed at the number of foreigners that never understand that.

Zero problems in the past 10 years in a middle class Thai only moobaan, neighbours quiet, dogs not allowed, zero noise ..... although the birds are tweeting a lot this morning, and sometimes a buffalo bellows in the distance. The only neighbour problems I ever had was when I rented in a 'farang' moobaan 13 years back, the white foreign husbands were both dodgy and the wives were both tatted up mouthy bar girls.

Can't you do both? (before you negatively comment, my wife is my bed friend) Now you've made me think of drinking, so time for a wine cooler. Not sure about the grandkids, I'm nearly 70 and my son is nearly 13, so I have a long wait for grandkids.
