  1. I never found any danger there, and I always walked through the poor area late at night to get from bus station to airport. Everyone was very polite as they sat outside their shanties, "Enjoy your holiday sir" was often said as I walked past. (Normally the locals will call you 'sir' or 'boss', no racial slurs at all, they seem to like foreigners) As for places to live, Borocay would probably be the most expensive. I used to stay in Barretto (near Olongapo), very nice beaches, lots of foreigners, many 'nightclubs' and resorts. Can't say what it's like now with COVID, might be as locked down as Pattaya. Was no problem to have Aussie meat pies for lunch in the local pubs. Lots of Brits and Australians running most of the resorts. Free 1 year VISA from the consulate if you are entering with your Filipino wife. This is Baloy Long Beach just before COVID.
  2. They're not exactly hard to replace. Longest I've managed to live alone in Thailand was 2 weeks. Shortest time between women was 1 night. ......... and I'm not exactly god's gift ............
  3. You're lucky, my MiL came up from Petchabun just before the lock-down. She's been stuck here two months now. Used to walk around the house all day topless ........ took me a year to stop that.
  4. Not sure that's entirely true in Thailand. Spent 4 hours at San Sai hospital yesterday (regular appointment), nobody offered me a vaccine when I was there because they don't have any. How can I be prolonging the pandemic when there is no vaccine, even if I wanted it?
  5. I agree with the OP, bread and milk have been very iffy the past couple of weeks. My local 7-11, Tesco, BigC have all been out of stock for days, then a delivery that quickly sells out. Cheese and Onion crisps are also in short supply.
  6. Lots of pretty photos posted, but I'd think most of the places would only be good for a day or two before boredom set in. I'm happy enough where I am on the outskirts of Chiang Mai. Big enough house, high speed fibre, big TV, nice enough woman, 2 kids and 3 rabbits. Sure, I'd like to fly away for a weeks holiday, but longer than that and I'd just want to be home. I choose to be here for the next 12 months ............ even if I had unlimited money.
  7. I would like to point out hiking alone in the jungle isn't ever safe for anyone. At the very minimum you should tell someone where you are going and when you intend to be back. It's very easy to slip and fall, and hurt an ankle, or just get lost. Probably as many reports of tourists falling off waterfalls, or getting lost, as being attacked.
  8. You must be living in a different Thailand to me. It's just as easy to get laid today, as it ever was. I always wondered what different reason any single guy would have for coming to Thailand? Can't think of one myself .......... cheap female company ....... it's what Thailand is for! (Your payment plans may vary) It's as good here today, as it was when I arrived in 2009. My only complaint, is me getting older, but that would have happened anywhere. Back to the OP, I can see how living alone in one room in a city with everything closed might not be a lot of fun. But nobody is forcing him to live like that, he could always get a bigger place in the burbs with a bit of a garden he can sit out in. And invite a younger lady to share his home, or get some pets.
  9. I suspect the translation is in error. It would be nice to see the original Thai question and answers. Would think answer 4 likely "educating children".
  10. The whole point of sex is the exchanging of bodily fluids. Not to mention I have no wish to endanger my immortal soul. I never really worried about any disease, and seemed to have survived all have encountered.
  11. Kid came home from school with a letter yesterday ........ government school closed until end of month to prevent COVID spread. They'd only been back 2 weeks.
