Tried for lunch at KhuaLek cafe today, closed due to flooding. My misses insisted we immediately left the area as it was too dangerous. Ended up having a fish burger at Chester's in Airport plaza as being closest to immigration for after lunch.

How do you pay?
BritManToo replied to garygooner's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Mostly bank app as my wife (or son) take any money they find in my wallet. Easier to say I don't have any rather than say no. -
If I were a Billionaire, I probably wouldn't be any happier or live a significantly different lifestyle. Sure, I'd drive a newer car, but is that really significant to my life? Food, not sure how bacon, pork sausages, muffins, marmite, ham, roast pork, Zinger burgers, English pancakes, baked potato and chilli, chicken Jalfrezi and naan bread would be any higher quality if I had more money. Even a breakfast of moo ping and sticky rice (30bht) is pretty good.

What used to cost 500bht for an hour now costs 1500bht.

Disagree, US forces are crippled by 'rules of engagement' Whilst the 3rd world forces can shoot anything, anywhere, anytime and not worry about women, kids an bystanders. Now if the civilized forces were allowed to nuke/shell Somali cities ....... end of game.

Yep, we thought that too, crowds of people hanging around the main bridge. Loads of slow moving traffic driving along by the side of the river. Guess they're waiting to see it overflow the walls.

Was in the park opposite Kawili fort (between Au Der Auf and KhuaLek cafe) just now. Park full of soldiers, river very high. Soldiers say it's gonna flood later today.

Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand

Asking for payment and being able to take (or enforce) payment are not the same thing. -
Frozen in time: British expats losing out on pensions in Thailand
BritManToo replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Only if they believe you are dead. Suspending your pension for any other reason would be gross misconduct (malfeasance?) and I don't believe anyone working for DWP would care enough to risk that. I would also point out court action would bring much negative publicity to DWP along with expense far beyond any chance of recovery from the pensioner, and a chance of losing. I can't see them having much incentive to chase pensioners who omitted to change their address, I did even read that DWP has no current address for as many as 40% of state pensioners. -

Almost the same for me ......... Detached 3 bed house in gated village 10kbht/month Old pickup truck, tax and insurance 2kbht/year, first repair this year 1k65,diesel almost nothing as I mainly use my eMTB. Medical nothing, I'm ok with death. Food/drink 5kbht/month mostly bacon and sausages. But then .......... Wife and kid ........ Another 30kbht/month. If only I were single! And to keep on topic, when I moved here I didn't know about frozen pensions. Mine isn't because I've never revealed I moved out of the UK. I still use my old UK address, despite not living there for 15 years, and nobody has noticed. -

Many older people are easily frightened by their government. The DWP threatens (although effectively powerless to act) and the easily frightened volunteer payment. As for proof of life certificates, they don't send them to pensioners living in the UK. -

Many people go on a big boast all around them about how they are moving overseas. The others get dobbed in by family members and friends or former wives. On the other hand I don't even tell my Brit kids where I live, certainly not my bank, GP, DWP, or any other government department. As far as they know I live in the UK. Best not to let anyone know your name, address or business. -

UK nearly the same as USA, BUT employers aren't that charitable, assume their 10% comes from you getting a lower salary. -

My NI payments were near 20% of my salary, but if you don't work it is a handout. -
That wasn't created by white people.

Used car market in a jam as electric vehicles spark trouble

This was explained to me by a gfs brother ......... he had a home made of sticks and a 1M5bht pickup outside. "The home is for my wife and family, it won't impress the girls I'm trying to pick up!" Seemed a good explanation to me. -

To be fair, new EVs are often cheaper than secondhand EVs. The problem is the secondhand vehicle market, not the type of engine. -

Had my 1997 Nissan Big-M pickup for 14 years, paid 150kbht ...... now worth 50kbht. So less than 10kbht depreciation per year. @KhunLA How much do you think it's price will plummet next year?
