  1. Problem with Grab is that food deliveries are subject to the whim of the drivers with no guarantee of getting your selection. Rain, distance, multiple deliveries, holidays, value of order, festivals and many other distractions get in the way making for a lottery on whether you will actually eat! Even reordering 3or4 times doesn't always work! And Thais get very ratty if their food isn't delivered immediately!
  2. It is legal. IO exercising their legal discretion. Also use of agent is needed for those of us who have age related mobility problems
  3. Just had a scare on my BB mbanking app Wouldn't let me in due to 'system detect accessibility service' being on. No idea what this was so reloaded app but got the same problem. Checked Google but got a lot of app writers indecipherable jargon. Went into phone settings and turned off everything in 'accessibility' including Norton. Reloaded app again and miraculously got access. Had to reset account but it's working again. Fortunately I also use Ibanking so I wouldn't be shut out completely if mbanking failed again. Hope this helps anyone getting the same problem
  4. Most smartphones have in built facial and fingerprint capability
  5. I have a Wise bank account with UK sort code in the event of my UK bank closing my account but could only get a debit card by using a family address in the UK. Haven't had to use it yet but Wise make so much money from my FX transfers they will keep it open. If my UK bank wanted to check they would easily trace my activity with Wise but they don't seem to mind and with online banking I check my UK accounts most days. Would be a real pain to change my account details with 4 pension providers! Making us jump through hoops when UK banks make it easy for Oligarchs and Tory MPs including the PM and Chancellor to happily operate Off Shore accounts shows the double standards of the haves over the have not. And don't start me on Frozen Pensions!
  6. Did mine on line last Friday. Approved same day (Jomtien)
  7. Bankers at it again! As long as they rake in and stash their commission they really don't care if they bankrupt their bank in the process!
  8. The 2008 financial crisis was started by US banks irresponsible lending so this is nothing new.
  9. Wise are regulated in the UK like all other financial institutions including all banks. I have found their call centre staff to be very helpful. Alarmist commentaries can mislead!
  10. I keep all my cards frozen and unfreeze when I want to use. Especially when a replacement is in the post! I also use a CC for on line transactions as they have a verification procedure
  11. At least the change in wind direction will blow smoke away from Bangkok and Pattaya
  12. Further update on Fascino wch. Went to collect 'repaired'chair today. It's worse than before with a distinct knock on the l/h wheel whereas before it was a slight rubbing sound. It's rated for 100kg but even when the assistant at Fascino who must be closer to 50kg there was still a distinct knock. Sent a Video to the supplier and asked them to change the l/h wheel. They had the cheek to ask us to send it to them but we left it with Fascino to sort that out. Guess we will have to wait another month to see what happens. Thai propensity to ask for payment up front and not accept responsibility for goods supplied causes this problem. 100kg chair is same as 80kg chair but wider not stronger. Asked Fascino to change the whole chair but they said they only act as go between.
  13. The only thing they can do is to fund farmers cooperative ownership of harvesting and bailing machinery. When I first visited Thailand rice was harvested by hand but now rice farmers use machines. The same is possible for sugar cane but the processors prefer burnt cane as this accelerates sugar and mollases production and harvesters prefer burnt cane as its easier to cut by hand. Processing companies should be made to inventivise the collection of unburnt cane using crushed pulp to fire their boilers and harvesters should have access to bailing machines. It worked with rice and will work with sugar cane.
  14. Had the same reservations myself when my Thai wife wanted to get me one as I can't walk any distance due to swollen legs. She got it from Fascino and I used it once for about 100m and it broke. It's taken a mth for Fascino to return to manufacturer and I still haven't got it back. I would have chosen an electric version but it's probably too heavy for her to get in and out of our vehicle. Thai women are not embarrassed about pushing a wheelchair. I think they weren't allowed toy pushchairs as children.
  15. Problem is that Chang Mia is in a ring of fire without any unburnt oxygen left so us wrinklys cannot survive there! Check iqair! Digital Nomads erratic behaviour explained by a surfeit of nitrous oxide!
  16. Farmers in the UK have shotguns to discourage such behaviour! In Thailand land owners rent out their land to share croppers so the line of legal responsibility is broken. Just look at the Nos of fires around Phitsalok on on airiq Unbelievable! And it's all blowing SW to Chonburi and BKK
  17. They will break into unoccupied houses and colonise them. Spikes on perches will encourage them to go elsewhere
  18. We had the same experience. Apparently the warantee just covers the motor and as we had a broken thermostat it was cheaper to buy a new fridge
  19. Tried to get a Certificate of Entitlement done by them and it took 2weeks and was signed by AA Insurance in Hua Hin??? Darren definitely missed!
  20. Depends on the wind strength and direction and rain. No rain and gentle wind from the N drives pollution from crop burning in the N towards Pattaya. Rain and wind from the S over the sea drives pollution away. Particularly bad this year as can be seen by smoke drifting across route 7 from the hills to the N of Pattaya. Don't understand why anybody would want to burn hillsides like this although I read that Thais do this either to clear land for planting or drive out animals for the pot.
  21. Yes wise transfers are coded as FTTs at Bangkok Bank-dont know about SCB as they wouldn't let me open an account despite having a mortgage with them. I collect Credit Advices every month and my branch will do a 12 Mth statement based on them
  22. Missing the point! Due to mobility problems I am unable to attend Bank or Immigration!
  23. Can anyone recommend a No Show agent in Pattaya. Financials and bank book are all in order but my wheelchair is broken so cannot attend banks or Immigration. Key Visa did the last retirement extension but without Darren (bless his cotton socks) they are struggling. Recommendations for an agent to do everything for me much appreciated. Dissing agents services is of no help.
  24. A no show agent is worth their weight in gold if it prevents queuing at the bank X 2 often outside in the sun if they are imposing COVID restrictions and then X 2 at immigration especially if you need a wheelchair. My last agent charged me 16.5kbht and my bankbook showed well in excess of the required FTTs and I do my 90 day on line hence any recommendations? Just asked my current agent to do a certificate of entitlement and it's taking a week!
