  1. For individuals/businesses there are libel and defamation laws in many countries, less so when it comes to the misreporting of general information involving wars, politics etc. Not easy to get a grip on this issue given the importance attached to free speech.
  2. I remember reading that when golfer Bobby Jones was on his deathbed his last words were "Is that all there is ? " This, from a guy who won all four majors in one year, in 1930, the only time that has ever been done, and who was a superstar world-wide.
  3. The protocol would be for a visiting PM to have a meeting, however brief, with the PM of the country visited. Never happened, apparently.
  4. Thirty thousand baht is a brazen and ridiculous amount to ask for. If this is a genuine posting I'd run a mile if I was you.
  5. Taiwan people are the most friendly to be found anywhere. Thais less so but they are, nevertheless, amiable and, mostly, fun to know. I have not had your experience on the SkyTrain in Bangkok.
  6. Clearly time to get into the medical prescription business in Thailand.
  7. Not bullying in the physical sense, but disgusting behaviour nonetheless. I doubt he would do this in his own country.
  8. No man should ever beat a woman like this. Sadly I doubt he will ever face justice.
  9. Back to the country where she received her degree, in International Hotel Management, at Surrey University in Guildford.
  10. Thaksin entirely to blame, his sister to pay the penalty. Yingluck should stay well away from Thailand, probably for ever.
  11. He was not 'spoken to by one who cannot be named', but even if your comment was correct it does not account for the innocent people killed.
  12. No idea what you're talking about. Was this response intended for someone else ?
  13. Entirely agree. Went on a cruise around the Mediterranean many years ago. Experienced claustrophobia within minutes, and soon after realised I would be unable to avoid people I would rather not know. Loathed every minute. Never again !
  14. The gall of this guy ! Thaksin has yet to be called to account for the thousands of people killed in his 'war on drugs' during his tenure as PM, the majority of whom were entirely innocent.
  15. The Thai baht is permanently over-valued. This has lead to several financial disasters, most notably the crash of 1997/8. Those Thais in a position of power/privilege invest heavily overseas, especially in property, for which purpose the higher the value of the baht the better.
  16. Of course it does.
  17. Both at fault, the motor biker for going too fast, the cyclist for not paying attention.
  18. Fair enough, just be aware that the Thai courts apply severe financial penalties if defamation is proven. Not a problem for those if us who are wealthy, but could be devastating for those of us who are less well-off.
  19. It would require the govt to negotiate with the oil companies. Prior to Thatcher's ill-advised sale of a controlling interest in BP the latter would have been a natural vehicle for this process. GBE would now be an appropriate entity.
  20. Even if that was correct there still remains a significant amount of oil and gas reserves which have yet to be exploited.
  21. An entirely false argument by the net zero enthusiasts . I was in the oil and gas business for 40 years. Rest assured the UK govt could easily establish a domestic price for locally sourced fuels, separate from the international market, if it chose to do so.
