I researched how horrible a disease it is and would happily have paid double! It's like a good motorcycle helmetand gloves I spent big on in UK . Accident a few weeks later, head and hands unmarked. My daughter was coming out for a visit and happily got her to bring an identical helmet with her . Some things just do not have a cost element you should factor in. Buy it!!

Not if good swimmer Statistically Most people who drown are swimmers . This is because non swimmers are far less likely to venture into the water. Stronger swimmers also tend to be more adventurous which can still get themselves into trouble. I’m a qualified BSAC dive leader and can free dive to 12 metres ,so I’m doing things even competent swimmers wouldn’t do. I’m always wearing proper diving fins (Mares avanti) and diving mask /snorkel. I’m not reckless and it’s calculated risk,but nevertheless…

The only counter to this is if you're not a good swimmer you are in significant danger trying to rescue a panicking drowning person. You should try to help if possible from the shore. I say this as a BSAC trained diver . I would have gone in despite advanced years as I would know what to do (grab her in something of a chokehold from behind) and I am a strong swimmer. The average Thais swimming ability - not so much...
