  1. It was likely import duty and VAT. To make it worse, they charge VAT after they add the import duty so you're paying tax on a tax.
  2. You can obtain either a single or multiple entry re-entry permit at CNX provided you hold a same day boarding pass. The desk is located to the right of the regular "departure" immigration lanes, after the security check. Do NOT go through immigration first - go through the security lanes, obtain the re-entry permit, then go to the departure immigration lanes.
  3. Or "PitSuks" as his close friends call him.
  4. Wow, this just gets better and better. Just blatantly thumbing their noses at the Thai populatiion.
  5. Banana Boat is what I use. Seems to be available in many pharmacies.
  6. ....which is why no one has mentioned it in the "Best Restaurants in Chiang Mai" thread.
  7. None. All of them practice zero accountability, are ripe for theft, and offer little or no customer protection from theft, fraud, or other criminal wrongdoings. I keep as little as possible in my Thai bank account and keep it as locked down as I can.
  8. Yes, you will need to show twelve consecutive months' of incoming foreign transfers prior to "switching" from the bank deposit method. The monthly deposit amount for a marriage visa extension is 40,000 thb/month.....but since you asked in the OP about converting from a marriage extension to a retirement extension (income method), you were told it's 65,000 thb/month.
  9. He didn't ask if there was an immigration home visit. He asked which agency came to your home because you said, "Worth the price given the agent came to my house to get materials and such."
  10. Congratulations, you "lose" the internet today. It isn't often that someone posts something so obtuse that all of the other posts on the entirety of the internet that day are better.....but, what the heck, you've accomplished that. Pat on the back or slap upside the head - whichever you prefer.
  11. I'll narrow it down, it is on the corner at the intersection of Sukhumvit and Soi 7/1.
  12. Always Tip My Barber is the name of my new band.
  13. So, that's not true at all. Again, not true. It isn't a loophole, you simply don't understand the Thai Revenue Dept position on this. Good luck explaining how "importing" money from a debit card is different than "importing" money through a bank transfer from the same bank via WISE. Will you get "caught" by trying to avoid taxation by using a debit card? Very unlikely. But let's not misrepresent it as a loophole, It isn't.
  14. Having lived there for several years, I concur with your assessment (mostly). Moved on to another place but few complaints about the building and the location is great. Happy to see you're still around the area, Neil. Cheers.
  15. Huh. Says "service charge". What do I know, though - you're the new AN "expert" here, lol. Congrats on hitting 50 posts.
  16. Do you apply this rule to hotel stays as well? Difficult to find a decent hotel without a service charge.
  17. Indeed it can.
  18. This stuff is 3 carbs per serving and about 90 calories - surprisingly tasty too. Can be found for approx 100 thb/bottle in the grocery stores.
  19. A monthly occurrence for me; six days from starting the transfer to receiving the THB into my Bangkok Bank account. I initiate my transfers from within the WISE app. As I understand it, if you were to set up WISE as a transfer partner in your home bank's account and initiate the transfer that way (i.e., you push the money from your account to WISE instead of asking WISE to pull it from your bank) then the transfer would be measurably faster. For whatever reason, I'm reluctant to do that though many others do so. (I think the fee may be less too.)
  20. You can definitely obtain a re-entry permit at CNX. The desk for that is to the right of the immigration departure lanes, after going through security. I've always completed the paperwork in advance to save time so don't know whether you can pay for that service. (I suspect yes, you can.)
  21. A friend of mine recently (last week) had an MRI performed at McCormick Hospital. Cost was 8,500 THB.
