  1. I really feel sorry for the poor saps who have to deal with Jomtien (be that tourist or Non-O long stay). I'll be doing my annual extension at CW Bangkok, this Thursday. 44 days before extension expiry. Never a problem. I will be in Pattaya on 11th April, could be quite entertaining to see the frustration and frayed tempers at Soi 5, Jomtien.
  2. I thought same. After reading, I could see no definition of what constitutes a classic car. Over 40 years old would be fair IMO. Or a kit car (not mass produced/marketed model) too.
  3. When I bought Gold last year in Chinatown, I wanted 99.99%. After trying many shops, I found only one small boutique that sold it. Their buy/sell spread was ridiculous like 500 Baht IIRC. All the other shops selling 99.99 pure only had 1 kilo bars (not the quantity I wanted 🙂). In the end I queued up far an hour at one of the Hua Seng Heng stores watching huge amounts of mostly gold jewelry being bought and sold. I bought smaller minted bars at 96.5% pure. The buy/sell spread is only 50 Baht. It has turned out to be a satisfying purchase. Hopefully, if the OP @Keeps buys Gold for his GF, he can say same. Consider it a gift (along with other advice he might get on this thread).
  4. What? You lasted a whole week on FakeBook? Why bother?
  5. Just as well the Thailand doesn't have nuclear missiles.
  6. Some Dell's seem to have a battery issue. I use XPS13's and after about 3 years (of heavy use), the internal battery will swell and push up the touchpad and/or keyboard. It is an easy fix and less than 4,000 Baht to replace with genuine battery (2,000 Baht with non-genuine battery). Plenty available on Lazada. Watch tutorial on YouTube if not sure how to do. Minimal tools needed (a full set cost me less than 200 Baht on Lazada). Job done for about 4,000 Baht and good for another 3 years at minimum. No need to buy a new device and all the hassle of setting up O/S and applications again.
  7. She said fruit, vegetables and market produce. A full meal at the roadside stalls with the big urns of curry, soup etc. including nam prik, vegetables and dessert for 50-60 Baht.
  8. Living life on the edge. One refusal away from being denied entry and deported.
  9. Agreed. We just spent a week in the rural south at Nakhon Si Thammarat. So much cheaper than Pattaya (and that's what GF said).
  10. Is "Influencer" a reserved Thai only occupation?
  11. Up to 1 kilo of shrimp paste used to be allowed in the UK so expect no problem. Be sure to seal it well and pack in checked baggage. As @Martin71 say's worst is that it'll just get confiscated but highly unlikely to be an issue anyway. Sniffer dog got my ex-wife on arrival at Heathrow some 15 years ago her case was full of Thai curry and chilli pastes etc. That's how I know 1 kilo of shrimp paste was OK at the time as the agent said so with no problems.
  12. With 5 months remaining, yes, almost certainly will be fine. No country would likely deny a citizen entry even with an expired passport. The enemy, as often, is the airline and their interpretation of rules and their ability to deny boarding. Best to renew passport earlier if is is causing anxiety.
  13. Of course not. That would involve time and effort on part of BiB. They could have done investigative work and put the machine under covert observation until the owner (or their operatives) came to restock it and empty the cash. Or maybe, they know the owner is a connected or influential person?
  14. Those minors knew exactly what they wanted to buy and where to get it. Definitely not "unsuspecting".
  15. Just been driving a friend's Mitsubishi Pajero Sport for the last week. Drove just under 2,000 Kms on highway, city and country roads. Very impressed with it and would now consider buying a Mitsu. Previously would only have considered Toyota (Hilux/Fortuner).
  16. Parked under one of these trees at Khao Sok last week. Dropping reddish soft seed/fruit onto the ground and vehicles.
  17. I did, in 2019, exactly what you are going to do. I too, did it at Chaeng Wattana. Very straight there. No BS looking for you to engage services of an agent (such as in Jomtien). I use Kasikornbank who have a branch in the basement of CW. They do the 12 month bank statement and immigration letter on demand (usually takes 10 minutes). Good luck on your journey. Just don't forget to obtain a re-entry permit before leaving Thailand. I have renewed retirement extension at CW each year since with no hassle at all.
  18. I thought I had replied to with a quote of your comments. Apologies if I got it wrong.
  19. The real issue here is that it IS the tenant's responsibility to file the TM30. Unfortunately that is impossible without co-operation of the property owner in providing the ID card, house book/s and or chanote. A horrible situation for the OP and I hope she gets it sorted. As an aside, and a warning to others, I would never pay a deposit to a landlord until they have provided the documentation required for the TM30. I would then set it up on the online system so that I could file a TM30 for myself when required. The new online TM30 system is excellent, took me 15 minutes to register and then only 2 minutes each time to file a TM30.
  20. Very unlikely that the mostly left wing main stream media would ever say that. It's only really the independant reporting and online publications and YouTube channels, Tik Toks, X etc. that seem to tell it like it is these days.
  21. I know a couple of ladies who went to Dubai in late 2020. Supposedly to work in a massage spa. Must be very lucrative as one of the ladies has already earned enough to build a house in Issan and bought a new car. Think she's been back to Thailand just 3 times since 2020.
  22. 2.75% currency exchange fee (or more) charged by most UK banks for overseas card usage. 1% a bargain and surprised that Thai banks weren't already charging.
  23. if ever a reply is given, expect it to be along the lines of "taxation in Thailand is a matter for the Thai revenue department, refer to them".
  24. Of which there were 24,000 Postal votes requiring no ID verification. Only a name, signature and date of birth needed to register for postal votes. No limit per household. This is worth a listen to understand how flawed allowing postal votes could be. Only voting in person with valid photo ID ahould be allowed IMO for free and fair elections.
