  1. I used to run a business in London in late 1980's, solely repairing puntures for motorcyles. Tubeless were only common on bigger bikes back then but we used to repair them. Always did from the inside and yes, the plug was mushroom shaped. Never failed. In Thailand I had a puncture on my ADV150 and took it to the repair shop (one with castrol logo IIRC) and they put a folded rubber strip into the hole from the outside. It worked ok but that tyre always lost a bit of pressure every few weeks. In the end it was time for new tyres anyway. Advise using a proper plug repair from the inside if possible. Repair from outside should be considered temporary only IMO.
  2. Used to enjoy the unlimited Sunday brunches at Sukhothai, St. Regis and Kempinski. Kempinski was my favourite as also unlimited drinks (including Louis Roederer Champagne) for 4 1/2 hours. They lost money every time I and the GF dined there 🙂
  3. Agreed. Type of food, area, budget, ocassion (general, birthday or anniversary), HiSo, LoSo, Western, Thai or other Asian preferencese might have elicited some good suggestions. I have used Tripadvisor, Google Maps and local listing websites such as: https://bk.asia-city.com/restaurants over the years and had mostly excellent experiences. Places come and go and change so what was good 2 years ago may no longer be so appealing.
  4. They will change the meter and start billing properly again. This happened to me a few years ago. No claim for any underpayment of months when the meter was faulty. YMMV.
  5. MEA read the meters manually (mine is not a smart meter) and once opted for online billing, they no longer put a bill in the mailbox.
  6. Same here. MEA send me reminders by text SMS and email. The bill is also shownline at the MEA account. My online banking with Kbank knows the correct amount too. The meter is read on 5th day each month so I set a reminder to login and pay on 6th of month. My UK electricity provider send all by email and does direct debit. Wish I could easily set-up direct debit for my Thai condo as if not paid within about 2 weeks they may come and remove the meter!
  7. TOT (now NT) are incumbent dinosaurs. I still keep a landline with them but left their internet service in 2014 when it was still 2mbps. Never looked back. 3BB have been superb for me.
  8. What no spoon and fork?
  9. For Card Not Present (CNP), it is up to the merchant whether or not to require the CVV check. CVV can be overridden, however unless doing 3DS, any merchant will likely get a chargeback for any fraudulent transactions.
  10. Every place that a card is used will have the full card number and expiry date at minimum. Very easy for unscrupulous staff to share this with fraudsters or sell it on to others. I used a card in the UK earlier this year in a convenience store, within days there were multiple charges made for luxury goods totalling over £1,000. I only used the card for one small transaction to keep the account alive (or the bank could close the account if not used). Talking to the bank, they weren't really bothered and simply cancelled the fraudulent charges and sent me a new card. They weren't interested in following up on who had obviously compromised the card.
  11. @BritManToo Sorry to hear about your misfortune and pain. I wish you a speedy and full recovery. Thanks for sharing your hospital experiences. As for the low-life hit and runner I hope they catch them. Was there CCTV on the intersection? I'm aware of an unwritten rule of riding/driving in Thailand, beware of stopping for a red stop light as it can be more dangerous than going through it!
  12. West London. 2003. My son and at least 4 friends' children were born. They were Philipina and Italian Catholic. They went to church every Sunday until their kids got places in good Catholic schools. They never went afterwards. Lucky enough my half English/Thai son went to a local CofE primary school nearest catchment so no need to pretend to be religious.
  13. You hansum too much!
  14. Good idea. Hopefully Thailand will improve it's English language ability above Cambodia and Myanmar soon.
  15. My sister works as nurse in an NHS hospital in the UK. The Health Authority instructions to her if she feels unwell are NOT to to test for Covid but to stay at home until recovered and well. No need for scare tactics. Treat as if a cold/flu. Protect yourselves and others sensibly.
  16. So 26-27 Million by end of 2023? How does that compare to expectations? Excuses or celebrations on these numbers?
  17. Yes. When in town I often walk past there to the lighthouse and back. Nothing of any use to tourist boats in that area. The soi dogs are the biggest presence.
  18. Have you tried getting in and out of a Bangkok Tuk Tuk recently at your age? Not easy for me either, but usually 3 sheets to the wind and pliable (rollable) when doing so 🙂
  19. I was surprised that Thailand joined CRS after resisting for so long.
  20. They forgot to add to the application criteria that applicants "must be experienced Taxi Mafia involved in fleecing tourists". I welcome change but can't see this ever happening. Look at the issues caused by Grab and Boilt in Phuket. The established mafia will not allow dilution of their lucrative market. Pattaya is so much easier than Phuket with regard to getting around.
  21. He wouldn't have a clue. He's a socialist who believes that someone else (or company, or government) always pays. Companies are rolling in money that must be liberated to the workers.
  22. @Somnambulist I've used the place on this link before for shoe repairs and they did a good job. They advertise bag repair too. On the corner of Soi Buakhao and Soi Chaloem Phrakiat 21. Their phone number is on the sign if you want to call before travelling.
  23. Thailand joined the Common Reporting Standard (CRS) this year. USA is not part of it as they have Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Either way, information on foreigners opening and maintaining accounts will be shared with home countries.
  24. Certain forum topics and posters "went to pot" a long time ago 🙂
  25. Free money that's why. It's a clever ruse to control the people and get them to comply with digital ID and digital money.
