Thailand emerges as billionaire hotspot, ranked 12th in rich list
bamnutsak replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Obviously one big name missing from the Thai list. -
"PM Orders Crackdown". Oy vey, what a schmuck. What's next? A Crackdown Committee? There should be a new ministry: Ministry of Crackdowns & Hubs.

So you're saying "the children" were safe right up until 9 June 2022, and then - boom - they started suffering. And please do not invoke the "gateway drug" argument. Thailand blew through the gateway years ago, and is now massively addicted to methamphetamine, with crystal meth and ketamine making a surge. An Opioid crisis is probably 2 ~ 3 years out. Drowning is the leading cause of premature death here in children 15 and under. Is anyone leading the charge to make water illegal? If cannabis cannot be controlled, thereby limiting access by children, then nothing can, and yet, the "government" is keen on controlling vapes, ecigs, alcohol, gambling, and tobacco. And the cost of decent cannabis is far outside the reach of 80% of "the youths", who prefer meth, or a happy water cocktail.

PM Blasted For Saying Cannabis Policy Yielded Bad Results
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Meh. He's not really doing anything, or making ill-informed decisions (other than sartorial). All he does is "play" at the PM's job. He's cartoonish at best/worst. Why he spoke so strongly on his anti-cannabis views, to a foreign news outlet is perplexing. If he were sincere he would be sharing his concerns for the health of the youths of Thailand by loudly and repeatedly telling them how dangerous cannabis is. He could also be engaging Parliament to pass the Cannabis Control Act. And by not doing anything about the burgeoning meth/crystal meth/ketamine problem he's making things worse. But he does nothing but open his pie-hole. -
Statement from President Joe Biden on Easter Jill and I send our warmest wishes to Christians around the world celebrating Easter Sunday. Easter reminds us of the power of hope and the promise of Christ’s Resurrection. As we gather with loved ones, we remember Jesus’ sacrifice. We pray for one another and cherish the blessing of the dawn of new possibilities. And with wars and conflict taking a toll on innocent lives around the world, we renew our commitment to work for peace, security, and dignity for all people. From our family to yours, happy Easter and may God bless you. https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/03/31/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-easter-2/ trump's Easter message...

I think it's more than loose nuts. To me (non-expert, based on photos posted to date) it looks like the fastening hardware used to attach that power conduit housing is getting sheared off by something in the train's undercarriage, which is out of tolerance or has some lateral movement, which is also out of spec. And some of the bits manage to fall to the ground. In this photo you can see that ~ 12 of these failed, all in a row.

International Transgender Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring every March 31 since 2009 dedicated to celebrating transgender people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide, as well as a celebration of their contributions to society. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Transgender_Day_of_Visibility Were these "republicans" similarly outraged last year? Meanwhile, trump's Easter message...

Construction of Pink Line extension suspended for a week
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
ELSA COSTUME SAVES THAI GIRL FROM PINK LINE CONSTRUCTION ACCIDENT BANGKOK – The Transport Minister has ordered to halt construction of the Pink Line extension for seven days after cement went through a BMW car’s rear window, slightly injuring a three-year-old child inside. Fortunately, it’s tempered glass. In addition, the child wore a cloak, similar to Elsa from Frozen, to shield herself from broken glass. It was reported that the accident occurred on March 30 at around 5:00 p.m. as concrete was being poured on the concourse floor of IMPACT Muang Thong Thani Station. While workmen were pouring concrete, the prototype side moved, causing pieces of liquid concrete to fall and break the BMW car’s rear window. As a result, one person in the backseat suffered minor injuries. Rescue volunteers then transported the injured person to the World Medical Hospital. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2024/04/01/elsa-costume-saves-thai-girl-from-pink-line-construction-accident/ This could have been a lot worse. -

Yellow Line must replace all bolts on finger plates for safety The Rail Transport Department has ordered Eastern Bangkok Monorail (EBM) to replace all the bolts used to tighten finger plates along the entire length of the Yellow Line track, after it was discovered that some bolts were missing between the Rama 9 and Si Udom stations, due to joint expansion. They fell onto the walkway below. The Yellow Line concessionaire was also ordered to speed up the recovery of a train which is blocking a track, so that the full service can resume, said Pichet Kunadhamraks, head of the Rail Transport Department, adding that the removal could take 2-3 months. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/yellow-line-must-replace-all-bolts-on-finger-plates-for-safety/

Parliament in favour of legalising gambling to boost economy
bamnutsak replied to george's topic in Thailand News
Right now this objection is being addressed by proponents who say that Thais will NOT be allowed in these casinos. Exceptions for wealthy Thais. You can't swing a dead cat here without hitting at least two illegal, underground casinos. Thais have no shortage of casino, or animal-based combat, options. -
...to a foreign news outlet. Has he said similar things in the Thai press? Weird move, but he is incompetent when dealing with the non-Thai press. He should have moved quickly off the cannabis topic, unless this was his major message. IMO he talks too much. Work with Parliament to pass a Cannabis Control Act, if he is sincere.

Sutin visits China for submarine acquisition talks
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I thinkk the RTN has decided on a Frigate OR two Off-shore Patrol Vehicles. But who knows with these .... They'll probably come back with a Frigatarine, which won't survive its first dive. Passing that 2024 budget, finally, means Thai cabinet/permanent secretaries can raid the budget. Off to China with a huge wad of cash. -
Wait until they have to evacuate trains in the dark, during heavy rain, with damaged electrical systems. What could go wrong. I think they've been lucky so far. Maybe best to shut down both Yellow and Pink lines for an independent safety audit - could be done over Songkhran. Or they could just buy more amulets.

Cabinet green lights bills to modify alcohol control law
bamnutsak replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
As near as I can determine, all of the proposed bills are all-encompassing, with some more liberal and some more restrictive. Only one bill will be passed (or not) which may contain provisions from some/all of the five (or four, or six) other bills. I think they all cover changes to the Alcohol Beverage Control Law(s), and cover... advertising, marketing of alcohol, this may include fewer restrictions re: social media posts sales hours, retail, restaurants, bars, including special alcohol areas/districts/zones A decent round-up: https://www.thaipbsworld.com/booze-battle-thailand-still-missing-the-middle-path-in-alcohol-control/ -

Police reform may be easier than everyone thinks

The RTP is simply put, Organized Crime. Full stop. Maybe with a civilian oversight board, that is Royally Sanctioned, some progress could be made. But let's be honest. No one wants, nor has the power, to make changes.
