  1. Making it law might not mean much when enforcement is nonexistent, but in an accident, not having buckled up, no helmet and now child not in seats mean there's reason for insurance to not pay out as the victim is not legal

    Pattaya Underpass

entrance is higher than surrounding road and there are pumps pumping out water when it rains, even if the power's out it looks like there's backup petrol/diesel pump on the control booth on the corner even on the perpetually flooded south Pattaya junction, they only need to raise the underpass entrance so that even if the surrounding road floods the tunnel is okay
  3. you can run a separate ground from the chassis of the camera where there's exposed metal to the ground in the wall outlet or a known good ground this is how most appliance in Thailand gets proper ground, as many come with Shuiko EU plug that don't make contact with the ground prongs in typical Thai receptacle
  4. Things like macbook power brick, you can get power lead that grounds it, the ground contact is hidden in the connector
  5. The Thai/Chinese run shop was good, but are bought out or taken over by Thai Indians now, I remembered the big name ones between Asoke and Nana used to be run Chinese/Thai guy but around 10-15 years ago they turned Indian, Their English and marketing has improved when the Indian took over but so has the price but not so in quality. Some purely Thai/Chinese shop with their own workshop and staff still survives further down Sukhumvit like around soi 49 or Ekamai, these have purely Thai clientele and didn't suffer so much when the tourist didn't arrive during the lockdowns. With the shops that's been affected by the lack of tourist I'd be weary of old fabric stock that's been sitting in the shops for 2-3 years
  6. if your car is still new that it does not require the annual inspection, you can pay for the road tax online and they send the receipt and tax disc(square) to your address. even if it needs the annual inspection, you can pay online after you have taken the car to the inspection place, not possible if you are out of the country obviously
  7. Some Starbucks in Bangkok went cashless now too, absolutely no way to pay using cash
  8. Search for 'True IT' in Asoke, they're surface specialist, or you can contact microsoft support and they send it to Singapore and send you a refurbished unit for a fee
  9. The yellow shirts PDRC, which this candidate is a proud member of, probably don't consider VAT taxes, as otherwise the lowly peasants would have been paying more than their fair share of taxes at 7-11s
  10. apparently easy pass only, no m-pass for now contactless card readers has been functioning for quite some time now
  11. the test answer paper is one of those scantron where you have to pencil in the the answers, and the test serial no. is needed because students sitting adjacent to each other might be given alternate test questions with their corresponding serial no. It's a national test, being held at the same time on the same day, the fact that there are up to 1000s of students being told not to pencil in the serial no must mean that there are at least multiple examiner giving out the incorrect information, as most test center held in assembly hall or gymnasium probably won't hold 1000s of student in one place it also probably cost next to nothing to run the answer against the key for all the test variations, and look at what net them the highest marks
  12. I came in when the wife got lots of costume jewellery in the suitcase and they were right on to us after we collected our bags,
  13. there were big dramas in Thai social media that some newer textbooks teach children to list out letters in sequence that it's written/typed from left to right, which would be useless in learning the sounds if a place is asking to spell your name or whatever, then it's probably better to spell in sequence, for learning, consonant then vowel is better
  14. wind chill effect on the skin, making you feel colder for less cost?
  15. If the experts are in here, if you don't mind another question: does the Thermal mass of the radiator (and refrigerant in the loop?) matter when the compressor cycles on and off? like are there any noticeable difference between light aluminium radiator vs heavy copper ones in one being able to be cycle off longer and the room temp won't fluctuate?
  16. I heard that new M-Pass is no longer being issued, as they are now moving people on to the M-Flow system, the fact the the M-Pass is run through KTBank whereas the M-Flow payment seems developed in house by department of highways probably plays in to that before there's only a few branches of KTB that has M-Flow kits in stock, like most branches in Pattaya and select ones in Bangkok, the rest would only sign you up and you get the cards and tag sent to you afterwards. Easy-Pass is run by the Expressway company which is separate from the highways(motorways) department and only just introduced Easypass on the Donmueang tollway and now being the only expressway that accepts Easy Pass but not M Pass, so I doubt that Easy-Pass is going away, you should be able to walk into most expressway office to pick them up still.
  17. can you get Thai passport without being entered into a blue housebook? like only getting passport from overseas Thai embassies only 'cause if you are registered in the Thai system, having an ID card and name in a tabien baan somewhere, once you are of age, you are liable for the military conscription, if you enter on Thai passport, which you can enjoy visa free and limitless entry, during period when he's aged 21-30, there will be a shadow hanging over his head if they'll nab him for doing a runner from military service.
  18. Why would a tourist bother with opening a Thai bank account?
  19. The owners groups on facebook are full of complaint of unusually high fuel consumption, even compared to the bigger H6
  20. more seats is okay, less seats could be problematic commercial vehicle got cheaper import tax that's why Hiace and other vans can be imported from Japan at reasonable price while most cars get effectively 300% tax there are 3 kind of plates that applies to vans black letter on white background plate: car this is for less than 7 seats and gets highest tax blue letter is for vans of 11+ seats, this gets lower annual tax as well as some import (excise|) tax some police checkpoint are notorious in that they will harass vans using this plate that has seats taken out to make a 'VIP' captains seat in the back, if caught you could face heavy back tax like 100,000s to be paid Toyota Thailand is even caught out themselves with the 'Majesty' essentially posh Hiace when the authorities deemed that the rear seats fitted is not really usable and they can't qualify for the lower tax, leading to suspend sales of the model. green letter plate is for transporting goods, from pickup trucks to empty vans, if you register the HiAce with this plate, you'll be safest, the mattress or whatever can be considered 'cargo' all of these plates can be driven on normal passenger cars plate only caveat is that the longer wheel base and high roof version of the Hiace, the 'commuter', if the gross weight is over 2 tonne, then it'll need to be registered as a commercial (heavy goods) vehicle on big truck plates which requires it to be either company owned or have valid reason to use and have sufficient location to park and many associated paper work in order.
  21. plus, in most Thai hardware shop, there's no return on bulbs, they test in front of you to make sure it works when you took it, instructions on installation advice can be given there if the customer is an indiot inexperienced which is prudent as many replacement LED for previous fluorescent fitting some instruct you to take out the starter, some come with dummy starter that short the circuit If the typical stick on magnet surface mounted LED replacement circuit type is not beyond the average customer to install, that requires uses of screwdrivers, rewiring from old fitting, this is not beyond their ability
  22. people here would complain if instructions in Thai are stickered over the English
  23. What about the coin operated pump on the roadside usually in front of someone's houses, what's the price like, they seem to have replaced the whisky bottles in many places
