  1. You don't need a yellow book if you don't care about having it. Immigration will give you a residence certificate. It should be free. But I have seen on the forum that some people have been asked to pay for it. It now has your photo on it. I don't recall if I had to bring a photo in with me last time. But I would be ready with on just in case.
  2. Because they actually use the Thai language on Thai ID's. This is the official Thai document for her name change. Williams in Thai is about in the middle in a little bolder text.
  3. When my wife went to change her last name to Williams some other Thais had already used the name. She would have had to get permission from those people to use the same last name. I told her just to use a different character for the last 's', ษ, and that was ok as no one had used that spelling before. I read an article several years ago that you can tell chinese families who had become Thai because the last names are a lot longer as they couldn't use ones that had already been taken.
  4. From the linked article: "The ThaiRSC reported in January that as many as 939,713 road accidents were reported in Thailand last year, up 4.7% from 2021. Road accidents killed 14,737 people, and injured 924,799 last year, ThaiRSC said. The committee reported that 536 deaths and 7,885 injuries were among foreigners. Following the Songkran holiday this year, during the ‘seven deadly days‘ from April 11 to 17, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) revealed that there were 2,203 road accidents, 2,208 injuries, and 264 deaths during this period." For the year the average is 40.37 deaths per day. For the 'seven deadly days' the average is 37.71 deaths per day. So perhaps they should call it the 'seven less deadly days' And we know the figures are much higher as they don't count those who make it to the hospital but die there.
  5. Two T's in the3 bread. Depends on where you are from. Pita - Wikipedia
  6. The phone did it. It wasn't me.
  7. Even though the picture is blurry the numbers on them do not appear to be the winning ones.
  8. Except the new constitution was set up just to provide an illusion of democracy.
  9. It's worth a visit. But you want to go when the water levels are low. Hiring a guide is the best way to see it. They know where all the good formations are located. I did read a few years ago that they are building a dam down river and when completed it might be covered with water all year long.
  10. I saw a skink eating a jing joke at my house. Do you have skinks around?
  11. Getting ready for a new high rise?
  12. My dad had to pay about 15,000 to see the doctor a couple of lab tests and some medications. 5,000 of it was just to see the doctor for 15 or 20 minutes. My point is exactly that Samui is much higher.
  13. When my family was visiting me we were on Koh Samui. My father was having problems and we took him to Bangkok hospital on Koh Samui. They charged 5,000 baht just to see the doctor, total bill was much higher. When we got back to my home in Ratchaburi I took him to Bangkok hospital there. It was only 500 baht to see the same type specialist.
  14. They are having difficulties getting them to fill out the census forms.
  15. It's long been a joke about chinese restaurants serving cat. Cat In The Kettle
  16. The water is clear and non-cloudy so no problem. How about testing it for chemicals?
  17. They can get 4 or 5 F16's for the cost of one F35. Of course here, after 'special' morkups it will probably be 2 for 1.
  18. I don't understand why so many women wait so long to do something about it. They should make this guy eat a bowl full of dog <deleted>. A rather large bowl at that. I hope they give him a meaningful sentence that will at least make him consider not doing it again. Although that probably would not work on someone like this either.
  19. That's not exactly what it says. To put it in numbers out of the 64 deaths. 32 of the dead had not been vaccinated. 19 of the dead had been originally vaccinated but never had boosters. This means they were basically unvaccinated at this point. 13 of the dead had been vaccinated and had boosters. (but it doesn't state how many boosters or how long since their last booster) My doctor told me,about 2 weeks ago, that the vaccines available now are bivalent.
  20. Very common occurance in Thailand. At a local shrine here you see this fairly often. They say the spirit likes to watch movies. I tell them they didn't have movies when he was alive so how could he like them. There is some boy statue people like to go pray to for numbers now. Apparently he liked sunglasses and guns. They like lighting firecrackers at it. I guess to simulate gun fire? More wats are putting his statue in them now. Good money maker for them.
  21. Ratchaburi is known for it's pottery factories. Urban legend has it that the royal family would come to the factories here and gather up what they wanted. Instead of paying for it they would give the owners numbers to play on the next lottery.
