  1. Most of the safes sold here are really just for fire protection. The only thing I keep in mine is important documents. I have read that these fire safes can be opened just by dropping them. Never tested that though.
  2. If you don't want the additional hassle of being required to buy certain insurances to get your extensions avoid the O-A. Just do as advised above. Lots of discussions on the forum about arriving visa exempt and switching in Thailand to a non O extension.
  3. A red and white curbside means no parking. A yellow and white curbside means no parking, but temporary loading/unloading of goods or passengers is allowed. https://thaidrivinglicense.wordpress.com/thai-traffic-rules/
  4. Did you check your breaker box?
  5. Yesterday the weather app said 100% chance of rain where I live in Ratchaburi. Not a drop.
  6. Same with SCB. 20K and over they will call you first and ask what you are using it for. I think they want to know if it is for personal expenses or for buying property.
  7. Advertising is legal using the company logo but not images of the actual product. That includes showing boxes of the product too.
  8. I see some Thai's put a row of plastic bottles with water in them to keep the dogs away. Or to keep them from peeing on their plants or cars. I have no idea if it really works though.
  9. A few decades ago when my wife would go visit her family in Thailand if I wanted to call her I had to call a somewhat close neighbor that had a land line and ask them to go get her so I could talk to her.
  10. IF this is the original O-A visa, not an extension of stay, you will get another 1 year permission of stay from the day you reenter Thailand. If it is before the expiration date of the visa, in your case 23 Dec. So if you return on 4 Oct 2023 you will get a permission to stay until 4 Oct 2024. IF you are on a 1 year extension of stay with a multi reentry permit you would still be under the 23 Dec 2023 date for permission to stay and would have to extend again before it expires. Or leave before then and start all over.
  11. My bill went from about 6,400 last month to 8,400 this month. But consumption was up about 450 units. 10 years ago winter months were around 1,200 and summer months around 3,500. Now my cheapest months are around 3,500.
  12. 1) Health insurance - You can get a free quote on the wrlife website without giving them any info. Most others want your contact info first. But you have to realise that you are most likely to excluded coverage on many things. Like if you take blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar meds you will most be likely be excluded coverage for heart attacks, strokes and such. https://www.wrlife.net/ You are probably going to find that health insurance will take about half of your budget and you will still be on the hook for many medical costs. 2) food - if you eat cheap thai food you can have 3 meals a day for about 7,000 baht a month. But it can escalate quite abit otherwise. In Ratchaburi there is a restaurant that has the best steaks I have had in Thailand. But then you are talking 1,200 to 2,000 baht for one meal. Even eating falang food at home is going to cost you more than eating the local prepared food. I think I could live on 30K/month if I was by myself and lived a simple boring life. But that would not cover anything more than basic medical costs. My wife and I budget about 120K/month and sometimes exceed that.
  13. They don't even know for sure that the boy was attacked. No evidence of it at the school if you read the article. I understand that it vaguely resembles a swastika but there are no legs on the mark going up and down.
  14. Guns being fired and bombs being thrown but only 1 person hit with a rock?
  15. If that is the same home talked about in the article aren't those small jedi's used for keeping ashes in? Anyway just have a ceremony with lots of chanting to remove any evil spirits.
  16. When I did my extension in January the lady at the window asked me how come mine was so old. I just told her i have never moved since living here and the subject was dropped.
  17. If they are nice they may give you a 60 day extension to season your money again. When I first retired here I opened a joint account with my wife because I didn't know it had to be just your name on the account. They gave me a 60 day extension to rectify it.
  18. Most Thais spray with one hand and wipe with other to get everything off. Why do you think they don't shake hands.
  19. This isn't limited to Thai people.
