gotta agree.... I think many here enjoy the "best of both worlds" .... living 15 or 20 km away from the concrete jungle . -
Just what is life like in Rural Thailand- ever wondered ?
rumak replied to CharlieH's topic in General Topics
my lady comes from Khon Kaen. her dream was to meet a farang and live in Chiangmai . I just happened to be available 555 she definitely likes the North more than Isaan ....... prettier, not as much stealing , likes the character of northern people more .. to name a few things. and our house ! what a beauty ! -
or.... ask for a second opinion from another Ex wife .. !

Got on a Plane and Left my Medication on the Kitchen Counter!
rumak replied to bhatmasterson's topic in Health and Medicine
Most common glaucoma med (drops) are latanaprost (xalatan brand name) ... and heat sensitivity is an issue .There are other types of drops as well . i would not recommend sending any. The Walmart suggestion is good. Even a general doctor visit is costly .... to say the least. Always amuses me when people say the cost of living here in Thailand is getting close to Western countries (US being the main culrprit ...) My glaucoma meds if bought at pharmacy cost me 650 baht for one, 130 baht for another . No script needed. Once in a while i go to govt hospital to check my eyes, and eye pressure (every 6 months) .... total cost 150 baht , and they smile at me . -

The thing about glaucoma meds is that they still do NOT improve the reading comprehension of people. a. op got on a plane b. op got off plane... IN USA (which requires prescriptions for the glaucoma meds) ... ( for our own safety, of course .... SARCASM .... ) c. obviously OP gets the glaucoma med here in Thailand .. and yes, don't need a prescription ....... d . ??? got it -
Thanks Sheryl... i agree. I have researched the HA injections well , and for my situation they could be a real knee saver. I am an "oldie" .. but good health except for the surprise of knee pain about 8 months ago, and they are slowly getting more sore and the stretch, light exercise has not worked . ( in contrast, 3 years ago i broke my hip and after surgery was walking within a few months and without any pain after a year .) I was just curious about that stem cell post .. thus my questions . I will getting a "one shot" dose in each knee of a Swiss brand viscoelastic solution . (HA injection)

GeoBlue (FEP-BCBS) exceeding slow paying claims 2024
rumak replied to IAMHERE's topic in Health and Medicine
The stress of having to deal with (yet another) the trevails of getting insurers to pay would have killed me long ago . ( do they cover that ? 🙂 -
did you have both knees done ? 80k for one , or ? can you share how you researched this option..... why you "trusted" trying this treatment . and , where did you do it ? lots of questions, i know . but, would definitely appreciate any info you can pass along rumak

easy to say.... indeed ! Trying to get the Right exercise .... and the degree of exertion ... is a trial and error , case by case, joint by joint endeavor . And more often than not we err on one side or the other. my decision ( just yesterday) to go get the shots is based on my difficulty using my knees in a meaningful way to gain strength . so, my legs are getting weaker .

keep all those replies in mind ....... go see the ortho in pattaya . Listen closely . Go back home and read up again on all the types of knee pain ( rheumatoid, osteoporosis, osteoARTHRITIS ( most common) .... and many others) . then come back here and ask some more 🙂 (sheryl is helpful to assist ) but ultimately you will need to make your own decision what to try first. ( not surgery )

When i start to do "research" ..... i read whatever i can . Unfortunately, nowadays the sources shown on giggle are paid for almost exclusively by main street sources. Before there were many different ones ! But by searching and following some links a broader picture can be found. I especially like to look for "user reviews" ....regarding meds and procedures. Anywaysss.... a number of people reported good to excellent results... some lasting longer than the conservative 6 months usually quoted. I wonder how drs can keep throwing meds at people that all acknowledge are not good for longevity . And yes..... cheaper options than BK 5 star hospitals are to be found . MY opinion is that cost does not always mean better ( but sometimes, yes ) .

actually the dr i see is an orthopedist ...lol . must have been something in my subconcious that wrote osteopath.......

1. due to osteoarthritis and not that badly advanced ......check 2. i have always been fit ....... in todays world i am called "skinny".....check 3. The length of time they last , according to studies, varies. And by "cushioning" the bones, the further wear and tear can be greatly diminished. And also enable the patient to actually tolerate doing stretches and strengthening which is so necessary to maintain ones health IMO ..... and if reading the alternatives ( drugs with warnings not to use for long periods) ..... or opiates to mask the pain ... or steroids : i think HA injections are definitely a great alternative . Maybe they work, maybe not . One poster here has had very good results . ....... oh, yes, my osteopath is who suggested this option

Thank you !! Sometimes anecdotal ( from a REAL person ...... not a paid ad or promotion) is worth a lot ! Yes...as we are so often reminded ( and should be understood by everyone) each persons condition is different , especially when discussing bones/ligaments/ etc etc . So of course finding the solution for each individual person is not an easy task. Even for doctors . OK .... So..... for you it was a blessing . From what i take from what i have read about the HA injections.... in my mind they are exactly what COULD work best for many : How Do These Knee Osteoarthritis Injections Work? Normal joint fluid contains a substance called hyaluronan. It acts like a shock absorber and lubricant in your joint and is needed to help the joint work properly. Hyaluronan is highly viscous, allowing the cartilage surfaces of the bones to glide upon each other smoothly. This leads to decreased symptoms of osteoarthritis. thanks again for posting.

you might get a bit tired reading this summary of arthritis symptoms, treatments , etc but it is a good summary . probably you will need some help figuring out what is your problem , and then what is best for you ( could always try the get stoned before sleep method first . ) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7931012/

AND ......... while we are on the subject .........would like to hear from anyone who has had a Hyaluronic Acid Injection ( given in a weekly series 2 to 5 shots depending on the brands/protocol). read about it ......... it is offered in Thailand ......... and different than the cortisone stuff. i am thinking seriously of going this route.....

there are, at last count, 26, 242 youtube videos on how to fix your knees . I am on number 462 . /s ( this means sarcasm.... as i found out recently ) from my extensive research I have found out that age is a very important factor in bodily ailments ( who woulda thought). And knees ? 73 is the magic year.... when pain suddenly pop out of the bottle . 73 ! now, i too am going through all the possibilities and sure thing fixes to find what will work for me . Stay tuned . 🙂

remember my creed (a guiding principle ) : give em an inch..... and they think they're a ruler 🙂 Over many years, and a few "relationships" .... I discovered that the more i asked "what do you want?" or "what do you think ?" ... and got the usual answer "Up to you" .... only to finally realize , stop asking ! Only problems ensued . Recently we just got rid of a bunch of stuff that was just collecting dust . ( i had forgotten my creed for a while)

Is there a "follow up " to this situation ? What has happened ?
-
so far you, Sheryl, and I (all long term experienced sources ) have expressed this opinion . I understand that the OP is not sure the best way to proceed . for what its worth... the one time i got the tourist police involved, the guy who came when i asked for mediation was definitely NOT on my side
-
Op said : I've also decided to call the tourist police. that could really complicate things .............. and, NOT in your favor
-
not a good idea (IMHO)
-
That's true, but it can be very helpful in situations like this. a thai friend that has the smarts and ability to converse ( mediate for you ) ...... not just a gf. in fact....... definitely not a gf unless she is really "different"
