before you take roots somewhere else...... TRY it for a while. I am in my 8th location. "country living" can offer many surprises . city living..well, its city living . and neighbors and dogs and chickens and other noises and and and ... Try enough ways and places and your priorities should rise to the top. (btw.... aqi sucks many places . and at different times . burning. spraying ...traffic.. noise pollution .... ) anyway.... good luck

in your situation......... i would move ! put on the old song by the Animals. pack your stuff. just do it .
-
i really came close to moving. but i am probably more health conscious than many. Unless one has millions of dollars ....... we must make "trade offs" . eat good food ! don't take all those pills from med establisment . there are many ways to stay healthy. breathing clean air is one consideration, for sure
-
Yep..... pretty good in CM , actually very good many days..... until the usual time, just about beginning of March. If i moved elsewhere....... i would be giving up other priorities that are met in present location: quiet, good neighbors, peaceful, green, lower humidity than close to beach, cooler mornings and evenings, many food items pesticide safe , organic, fresh from farm eggs 5 minutes away, small public pool well maintained and cheap ! , local Northern people still my favorites, country living but 15 minutes to city center , good service options ( car, cycle, builder that i can trust ) ..... and......... get to take a nice break, get away to a beach area when the pollution really hits........ "and that's all i got to say about that"

i live in the real world .............. hellllloooooo

i did stop there once. not long ago . I don't travel to meet people along the road. Thais like me more than Farangs do 555
-
uhhh, why do you choose to live in that "god forsaken place" ? ( cm , as some long timers know....... usually has at least 8 months of good AQI , been in the green almost every day for a while, gets enough rain, nice cooler and less humid months Nov thru Jan , ............. but, i too get psssst off every feb when aqi shoots up . Nothin's perfect . ( beaches for all time have drawbacks )
-
that beach is about 8 km north of Chumporn ! and not nearly as nice as the write up. (IMHO)

Thirty years ago i made the mistake of telling people how nice Thailand was . Then the flood gates opened . I'm not going to make the same mistake telling AN members where i go to "get away".

maybe he was just glad to see you .........😉

But this is his best version yet and his past selves were authentic at least. Being a female takes some of the edge off of him. i think it might be another blast from the past . Emmy award winner . Either way i like the short style , and using arch nemisis trans style of short antagonisms along with coffee cup emojis is a stroke of genius . probably before the time of many here. soooo many new timers now, entering the contest. -
there are more than a few of us that are not able to give our honest answers . still in the minority , i guess .

Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?
rumak replied to RolandRat's topic in General Topics
good on you fred for calling out trolls. I don't even bother, as five word "comments" are like farts in the wind ....... and about as useful . Not funny, Not informative , Just some people wanting to be heard, but nothing to say . -
Remember to copy and save that 007 . In a few sentences its sums up , in a general explanation, why members on here.... and i'm sure a great number of disenchanted expats that move to Thailand....... are not happy, their lives not any better than before, and the inevitable bitterness overtakes them . I had to learn Thai, learn about interacting with Thais ( no, not being weak.... just being calmer and less "farang like" ) , and gradually I relaxed , stop trying to change everything, and learned how to avoid the bad stuff. ( a lot of that "bad stuff" being , like anywhere, with the opposite sex ) "they've maintained their sense of humor, they've maintained their playful spirit," ...................... Yep ! In spite of everything 🙂

pretty much the same view I have , after being here 30+ years . If anything, when compared to the West ......... Thailand has weathered the craziness much, much better.
-
you sound like a really incredible person .
-
I would, but my browser works ok ( and blocks most ads ON OTHER SITES ) .... changing things , even "resetting" , causes my cookies to get messed up on some sites i use ...... thanks for suggestion

"The Far Right" "utterly horrific" You left because of this 3 years ago, were you fearful of ethnic cleansing? probably shrinking in fear of climate change....... ( he could see it coming)
-
i know what you mean. I have felt that way since I was 10 years old ........
-
Well, i find myself agreeing with you... on this one. 🙂 . The number of variables in peoples lives makes black and white judgements of others silly. Surely mature and experienced people should know that. (will pointing that out have a beneficial outcome on AN posters ? ) HA... HA . I expect not, but eagerly await the confused emoji or two coming from the peanut gallery. Anyway, (seriously) ... the causes and intentions of the catastrophic inflation within the monetary system , with the medical field being the highest and most life destroying of all..... is a huge topic that would fill pages and pages of debate. Whether a proponent of buying "insurance" ( the terms are certainly not insured for future years, are they ? ) , OR deciding (by choice or necessity) to go it on ones own ...... we can make those decisions , BUT we , in reality, can never foresee what the future costs will be to cover our butts.

well, i am in Chiangmai . And the world would be a lot better off if it listened to things emanating from around here. 😆
-
yes. and why do some expats (i'm speaking in general) speculate on things they have no idea about? As your agent says above , "they've just reduced the requirement from 3 mill to 400k, why would they expand it".

You can take the westerner out of their first world country.... but you can not take their conditioning away. Very small percentage manage to live here , not necessarily "going native" , but just learning, adapting, and enjoying Thailand for what it is. Not what they want it to be ( so odd that they often don't like where they left.... but then compare things here to things there . baffling ) do to conditioning i doubt they will be heading to govt hospitals . Heck, most can hardly ask directions to the bathroom. Nope: gotta be BKK Hospital or Ram , little cute nurses smiling and speaking english.
