House purchase
AgMech Cowboy replied to Boyn's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
I'm glad we bought the house; although... We bought a house in a gated community in 2005. The guards are always there and they do keep the wandering vendors out, but deliveries, trash pick-up, yard men, tree trimers, requested junk pick-ups are no problem. We've two nice little parks that serve the community and they are well maintained. I am paying today, B1,800/month, which I'm pretty sure has never gone up (must have, but I don't remember so long ago). Our community suffered severely in the 2011 flood. More than 75% of the people cleaned up and move back in, some cleaned up and tried to sell (are trying to sell), others just moved out (3-5%). You won't have this concern, but this place was a great place to raise our son. He was almost 3 when we moved here, and he could roam the streets, go visit friends, run to the park, play at the playground, basket ball court or football field with no problems. In my personal opinion, you cannot go wrong in a secure gated community, but of course there are bad ones... Good Luck! -
New to Thailand, are you?

No kidding!! This is the first step for the mafia to really get their foot in the door as they run the motorcycle taxis.

Which Boozer is the Best in Bangkok?
AgMech Cowboy replied to FruitPudding's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Really!! I didn't even try more than one, but if that's the case I'll have to include Madrid with my selection of Buddy's Bar and Grill in the survey. -

The future is electric: your questions about EVs answered
AgMech Cowboy replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
EV cars are not the future. There are going to be severe problems getting good batteries, charging time will be a problem for long trips and disposal will be a big issue. I'll stick with the ICE and wait for the hydrogen vehicles. -
Makes no difference to me. I have researched a number of companies with Facebook pages only. It depends on what I need and the business involved. For instance, I buy freeze dried fruit from 2 different facebook page companies. One of them also has a webpage. I originally order product using their webpage. I got no response (oh dung). I contacted them on their facebook page and completed the transaction without any more problems. (I never got an explanation about the webpage).

You've never heard of dye? How long have you lived in black hair Asia? -
Colds and Flus... We've known about the different strains of flu for many years. Makes you wonder why they didn't get better distinctions; bird flue, swine flu, avian flu, influenza viruses: A, B, C and D. Human influenza A and B viruses cause seasonal epidemics of disease (known as the flu season). I wonder how many times the common cold has mutated and why we don't hear all the hodge podge of different variants. We have certainly gotten a bit of an education (if you've been paying attention) in the past 18-20 months about virology.

What SE Asean country has the most National holidays?
AgMech Cowboy replied to ASEAN NOW News's topic in General Topics
No expert, but I think you'll find Malaysia has more than Thailand. They celebrate Muslim, Christian and Hindu/Buddhists religious days plus many 'State'/Federal Government holidays, too. Also, half of Friday is a not spent 'working'. -
Will Pheu Thai’s shiny new image win it an ‘overwhelming’ victory?
AgMech Cowboy replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Ah, you must be talking about all the vote buying PT does upcountry... Personally, I hope they never win again. -
I concur with the former PM. The flood was not her fault. It was the bureaucrats who spent all their time kowtowing to the 'new' government and didn't pay attention to their jobs and the water levels in the reservoirs upcountry. Then Thailand had a number of tropical storms sweep across Vietnam & Laos in short time frames, which dumped large amounts of water into those reservoirs. Next thing you know the sluice gates were opened and here came the water. No place to put it, especially when the Bangkok Governor closed his flood gates to protect Bangkok (which was his job). Her and Pheu Thai's big crime was the rice price fiasco.

Car been idle for 3 years, change tyres?
AgMech Cowboy replied to Velleman's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Interesting comments and thanks for the subject. I've a car back in home country, which has been sitting for most of 3+ years. I 'may' go back in March and will face the same concerns; although, I changed its oil and had the transmission serviced with trans-oil change before I left, hoping to cut down any settling 'sludge'. -
Whats your neighbours and privacy like?
AgMech Cowboy replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Private, yes, secure, yes, peaceful, yes!! I live in Pathum Thani in a gated village near Thanya Golf Club. There are 4-5 villages off of Lamlukka 71. Three are 'gated' with security. There are a few foreigners living here, but mostly middle class Thais. (and some rich Thais).
