  1. No reason Muslims can't be good nurses but people shouldn't be surprised when they refuse to go along with all this other nonsense regarding sexual identity.
  2. Is their polling of the African immigrants in the UK? I bet they believe widely different things from English people. I've seen poling of Muslims out of the UK and it's as you would expect. "Half of all British Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal, poll finds" https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/apr/11/british-muslims-strong-sense-of-belonging-poll-homosexuality-sharia-law
  3. I love these stories. Liberals import immigrants from extremely backwards 3rd world countries only discover to they hold extremely backwards views which directly contradict their own. I wonder how many years left until the Muslims in London impose Sharia law and force the women to cover their heads, 20 maybe?
  4. Why is he researching this? Does he have ties to the country? He must have known he was playing with fire and for what gain?
  5. They may want a premium for expediency. My wife's dad needed an MRI recently and it cost around 20k baht. It's 30baht*** (see below for details) and doesn't cover everything I think. Maybe if he could wait months if it would be, but short notice is another matter because it's rationed.
  6. Best things in life are free. There's so much you can do without money if you search for it.
  7. Many Thais DO keep great gardens and one of the features of the country are the numerous coffee shops which are very decorated with gardens and pleasant seating areas. It's really the wide and expansive lower class which has no use for gardens and is only ever looking 24 hours in the future. We have this problem with developers too. This is the Chiang Mai, the so-called "rose of the north". The city is littered with the horrible housing projects. They've created miserable concrete jungles baking in the sun and are totally tasteless built for maximum profits. This and all the cars heat up the city and create the urban heat island effect.
  8. Let me guess too many fat liberal white women in elephant pants got offended? Good, that's a reason to double-down on the policy and extend it to more restaurants.
  9. They said "high-powered motorcycle" right? I think that means something bigger than your average 110-150cc things you see.
  10. nah screw that guy he could have easily killed an innocent person. Those aren't roads you should ever be going fast on and crashing like this. Since it was so early he may have been drunk too.
  11. I have to ask, do people think I was condoning her behavior? Obviously this was attempted murder. I was just responding as to WHY this maybe happened. Probably not random but a slow burning fuse that exploded eventually.
  12. this is probably right unless you saved by living under your budget for some months. Hopefully you have some savings too which you can use for an annual trip and flights. If you have no savings at all you're in trouble for a number of other reasons too.
  13. You can still get out and see your local area. Drive out to another town nearby and rent a 1000/night room which always good enough for me. Helps to break up a routine even if a couple times a year.
  14. Traveling would be really hard on 40k/month. Doable but certain areas will be off limits. For example I usually live on about 30-40k depending on the month and went to Krabi for 4 nights with my wife last week. Ended up costing a little over 30k including flight from Chiang Mai. Krabi kind of sucked also, total tourist trap and overpriced so I wouldn't go back. On a strict budget I would go to other places I could drive too and are more local. No reason to go into the belly of the beast if you don't have to.
  15. Don't structure your life around consumption. Move to an area without lots of things to buy and try to find some meaning in life besides buying things. If you want a nice meal out make that a special occasion and fill your day with other things.
  16. I also a programmer and I understand trying to concentrate with the constant distractions and noise in Thailand. She was probably just annoyed in general and some window guy showed up and started <deleted> around outside making noise and shouting etc... probably this was coming on for a long time.
  17. Good grief, so you're a criminal and want to teach English to Thai kids? How about no, please don't do that.
  18. So what if she wasn't notified? Does it matter if they come wash the windows and you don't know about it? They said "At the time, she had claimed she had not seen the notice posted in the elevator as she was confined to her apartment" Does that mean she couldn't leave her room because of the window washing? Doesn't make senes to me.
  19. The young Israeli men are a global well documented issue. Lots of other factors though too, cheap cost of living, easy access to women, crazy driving gives the impression it's a free for all. Open drinking in the streets, roaming dogs etc... Thailand feels very free which is why people like it but that's a double edged sword. Again, they need to crush these offenders instead of changing their culture. Everyone would feel so much better if they knew these incidents were dealt with swiftly and harshly.
  20. I don't understand all the details but it's inherently unsustainable. The US is trading currency reserves for real goods. Every year the US is creating more money which gets sent abroad and becomes digits in a database. The debt grows higher and higher and the total money supplies grows. How long can that go on? There must be some point at which they're tired of taking money they can't spend in the US economy because we're not making things they need. I think this is more about the global monetary system than anything else and Trump realizing we're backed into a corner we need to get out of.
  21. sure you want pictures of them burning the forest, I have no those too.
  22. I mainly blame the pubic sex trade and bar scene which overlaps with sex trade. I'm sure if you removed that things would change rapidly. Either way, they just need to drop the hammer on people. Doing abusive behavior on a tourist visa is an automatic 6 months in jail and see how that goes. Speaking of this I saw a video pop up on YouTube. It's unbearable cringe from what appears to be a serial sex pest from Korea. Thailand has these entertaining venues and Thai women indulge them so it's a recipe for dodgy tourists and bad behavior. Not saying they should shut any of this down but that's the reason if you ask me.
  23. People eat in their car and then throw it out the window as they drive. The sides of the roads are covered with trash. Then there's illegal dumping. People just stop off here and throw full bags of trash on the side of the of forest. There's clearly a problem with littering here and people not respecting nature.
  24. This is the same old debate about Globalism and free trade that has been going on for decades now. Go listen to some economists on both sides to hear the arguments. In particular interest to us here are import taxes which affect expats and hurt US exporters. Those deals could be renegotiated after this fallout.
  25. Says the white man with the surname "supreme" 😂
