As far as I know, a 14 year old with a twenty something isn't even that unusual in Thailand (which doesn't mean that I think it is OK). I doubt the police would get involved unless the mother makes a complaint, which is also very unlikely. It's just another thing that we foreigners, while bothered by, can't do a thing about, even if it's "against the law" in Thailand. Certainly preaching to parents or trying to influence the child is pointless.

I'd like to believe that they are well meaning, but I think their obsession with propagating trans ideology means they couldn't care less about the people they are harming.

Nothing under 18 seems like the only common sense way to go. The people praying on children need to be stopped. Even over 18 they need counselling and shouldn't rush into it. It's awful that they've been allowed to do the damage they have done so far. There'll probably be hundreds or thousands of these cases coming up in the next 5-10 years. Many suicides as well. It's very cruel. People need to protect children from this and not let accusations of "transphobia" put them off.

Sure, I'm sure the network of aunties all believe that. As I said, people do have pride in that, but they will still be judged and gossiped about.

Probably don't want to face all the judgement and gossip back home. They're proud that they took care of their family (parents, child, drunken brother, etc.), but they'll still be looked down upon and gossiped about. While Thai people can appear to be very chilled out and non-judgemental, that doesn't seem to occur in the village.

Well said. I think a lot of foreigners (and I'm sure we're all guilty of this at some point) have very rose tinted glasses when it comes to Thai people. We kind of project this image that we have of the ideal Thai person showing perfect "Thainess" and it means we can be blind to the fact that there are many people in Thailand who are the equivalent of people back home that we would cross the road to avoid. The OP definitely needs to wake up to this fact. Thinking they (a foreigner) can simply tell some random Thai people what to do and they will completely change their personality and values is fairly naïve.
