  1. The reputation that a country has will affect how people feel about studying there. Imagine there are two Havard Campuses, and one is called "the Thailand Campus". Which claim has more cache: "I went to Harvard" or "I went to Harvard, the Thailand Campus"?
  2. "Optics." There's rarely any substance behind it. I think it's just PR/propaganda to attempt to make the Thai people think that the government is causing Thailand to go places.
  3. The rebuttal here is "But trans women are really women". 😬 This is why they want to make real women need to have a prefix also. Just to make transwomen feel better. The way they have zero regard for how women feel about this is pretty shocking.
  4. Absolutely, but a 200 Baht helmet from Big C is definitely less likely to protect you adequately than a Western standard one that costs several thousand Baht.
  5. It's not just about having a helmet. You need to have a high quality one. Especially if you're riding a big bike.
  6. Perhaps they just don't have the appeal that a university that is still in the West has. As in, it isn't necessarily the quality of the teaching so much as what it means to go there.
  7. It's called linguistic terrorism. They want people to think that transwomen are so common and normal that women need their own special prefix, to make transwomen feel like they are not abnormal. "Trans or cis, they're both women!" 🙄
  8. Whichever one you are attracted to. Most men like women, fewer like ladyboys. No, as they come with their own family and mental problems. Possibly more that the women.
  9. I think you got it the wrong way round. The looney-left has been going on about Trump being "a convicted felon", of course he can now point out the hypocrisy. Even you yourself choose to label Trump as "the convicted felon". 🤦‍♂️
  10. You know nothing about people. The girl probably has no desire to change her situation. Screaming arguments are probably fairly default for them. I don't write BS. What I write is sensible and well thought out. You simply don't like it because it highlights your errors. I'm not saying you never could have helped, but at this point it's very unlikely that you can change anything. Unless you were family or some sort of state authority, who could remove her from the situation and force her to change, but still the damage is really already done. I commend the fact that you care and would like to help, that's admirable, but the fact that you attack people who point out the truth to you simply because you don't like it, is a lot less praiseworthy.
  11. I think you're missing the point. This kind of thing is not uncommon in Thailand, and it's unlikely that the people even want to change, let lone have the willingness to put in the effort. You're likely approaching things from a very Western-centric viewpoint (as it the OP), where you think that the woman and girl are victims of "the system", when really, they are products of it. How can you save someone who is perfectly happy with how things are, and doesn't even view themselves as needing saving? You cannot "assimilate" someone into Western thinking where suddenly they will become uninterested in dating an adult, completely change their attitude to education, and realign their life-goals with Western ones. You would need some form of brainwashing.
  12. It's actually an interesting idea. Why haven't top universities opened campuses in developing countries and target rich foreign students? I assume they've maybe considered it. Not financially viable? No one will want to work there? No one will want to study there? Will water down their reputation? Lose control of the quality of teaching? They aren't allowed? Safety?
  13. Good stuff. I hear white rice is not particularly nutritious.
  14. Getting angry and demanding that people who arent paedophiles be called as such is normal, educated and responsible? How so?
  15. There's an odd group that pop up whenever "consensual" sex with an underage adolescent comes up. They get really angry and quite forcefully declare that the person has to be called a paedophile. They seem to desperately need the person to have the label of someone who basically rapes babies and children attached to them. It seems like they have a weird obsession with the whole thing... 🤔
  16. And another user will respond, "Hebephile?!! What a stupid made up meaningless ridiculous word! He's a paedophile!!!" 🙄 (The stupidity here being that paedophile is a word coined in exactly the same fashion as hebephile.)
  17. This is a fairly standard relationship in Thailand for some. Best to keep out of it. Including trying to help the woman or her kid.
  18. I heard a theory about issues with self-image leading to tattoos. It's something like they want their outside to look like how they feel inside. Maybe they want people to see them as dirty, as they fear surprise or disappointment when people find out what they do.
  19. I guess they need to close the incident.
  20. Oh boy. I pointed out that the claim you made was provably false. 🤦‍♂️ How is that nothing? 🙄
  21. This is provably false, so... more trolling???
  22. Unfortunately, after what the Israelis have been doing in Gaza, it's now hard to know whether one might be attacked due to antisemitism or in some sort of revenge attack.
  23. As should anyone who attacks someone unprovoked based on their identity, right?
