Electric Vehicles in Thailand

Having posted the above post i have to say that there is a charging curve and if i charge at a 120 kWh charger i can get around 115 kWh but that will drop off to around 79 kWh and then around 44 kWh as the battery gets closer to 100%. So if you are constantly topping up your battery at 75 % SOC then you are unlikely to get more than 80 kWh or if you have to share a 120 kWh charger then will probably get around 57 kWh. So, yes, 115 kWh is available but not all the time. My Seal is supposed to achieve 150 kWh charging but i haven’t had the opportunity to test ( a Shell pump with a 180 kWh charger would provide ). Some of the 20% to 80% figures can be misleading but not impossible, its all marketing. In a similar vein the quoted range figures can be achieved but you wouldn’t want to drive that way, as ICE would often quote MPG figures, difficult but not impossible.

Probably not all but I would say most, i have had those results in Ayutthaya, Nakhon Sawan, Kaempang Phet, Lampang, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Oh and i forgot to add PEA Volta to my previous list, but will admit PEA Volta have many 50 kWh chargers. Even so, here’s the map of PEA Volta DC chargers over 120 kWh.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2025)

Lockerbie ( 2025 ) Colin Firth stars in this 5 part mini series about the tireless efforts of one man to find the truth about who sanctioned, built and planted the bomb that ended 370 lives. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31029686/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk -

Bradley Walsh: Egypt’s Cosmic Code BW, in case you didn’t know is a U.K. actor more commonly known in light entertainment and soap opera but now a popular game show host. Apparently having a passion for the wonders of Egypt, the pyramids in particular, he sets off to try and discover the mysteries surrounding these ancient monuments. An interesting show with the usual facts and figures about the timeline of the ancient world including the myths commonly associated with who created these amazing buildings. Spoilt only by Bradley trying to turn it into a stand up routine and at times being extremely silly. Michael Palin he ain’t !! This will appeal more to bored British housewives than serious Egyptologist students. Its a shame, i would say if you like BW’s humour then give it a go, if not give it a wide berth !! -

So, here’s one to avoid like the plague !! LOL: Last one Laughing U.K. - Season 1 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt35050741/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk You might like the odd episode of 8 out of 10 cats ( countdown ) or Would I lie to you or any other U.K. show full of the same old tired comedians. These shows have some high points though, David Mitchell’s rants or Bob Mortimer’s absurd stories, in reality since the demise of Sean Lock they are just a bunch of second rate performers who don’t have proper jobs. But this latest offering of “ U.K.’s top 10 comedians “ is just an insult to our comedic intelligences. I mean who are Roisin Conaty, Rob Beckett, Joe Wilkinson, Judy Love, Joe Lovett and a bunch of nameless others hoping to entertain with a game show where the idea is not to make the others laugh ?? If that wasn’t bad enough guess who is in charge ? ….. yup Jimmy Carr !! IMDB gives it an 8.1 rating but expect that to drop like a stone when the reviewers actually watch this dross . Yes, I did take one for the team and watch the first 10 minutes but only so you don’t have to, you are welcome !! -

BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Andrew Dwyer replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Was a strange occurrence, apparently triggered by going to 5% on SOC but could have been a coincidence, charging to 8% didn’t work, no doubt needed a longer charge. The app and digital key dropped out, thankfully the car could be opened and started via the normal key ( while i initially thought it had gone to sleep the first time i am not so sure it had as i pressed the door handle button a few times before checking it could open via the remote ). The “ simple mode running “ and “ steering wheel “ messages point to low 12v voltage and as there are various modes which switch automatically it could have also been a simple glitch requiring a lengthy charge or hv battery energised to reset. Went to the dealer and after their initial confusion as to why a message about the steering wheel and the app/digital key dropping out should require a 12v battery check they did a diagnostic check and also checked physical connections on 12v battery, all was good. The battery monitor looks good and would have given me some concrete evidence if indeed the 12v battery was at fault. Will look into buying one. Car electronics, indeed any type of electronics, are way over my head but i would take a uneducated guess that the low SOC of hv battery caused the 12v battery to go into one of its safer modes. Which, rightly or wrongly, caused the messages and stopped access to certain functions. One thing is for sure, i won’t be letting the range get down to anywhere near that % again ! -
BYD Seal tips, tricks and help
Andrew Dwyer replied to macahoom's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Well i won’t be doing that again !! While getting the range below 10% is recommended to do a slow charge ( < 10% to 100% ) for balancing the battery cells i wasn’t aware getting down to 5% would cause me so much anxiety !! Just to recap: At 5% the km’s disappeared, replaced with a line which i have seen before on YouTube videos but believed it to be at 3% or even 1%. Out of curiosity later yesterday i looked at the app to see if it was the same and noticed no internet connection and it had apparently last updated when i had stopped the car at home. This was my first indication something wasn’t right. My phone wouldn’t open the car and had to use the key, a message “ simple mode running “ flashed on the main screen and got the “ turn steering wheel l/r “ message also. Charged up to 8% to get out of the “ danger zone “ but it did exactly the same. Checked the manual but got no definitive answer on “ simple mode running “ and recall that the “ turn steering wheel l/r “ is related to interrupted power of 12v battery “. The manual recommends powering on the car for 1 hour to charge the 12v battery “ if smart charging fails “ although in my case running at 1 hour when SOC already low is not a good idea !! So, set the car to charge to 100% overnight and this morning all is well. A glitch or a problem waiting to happen ….. again ? Will be taking the car for a 12v battery check at the dealership pronto !! Just short of 16 months and > 25k driven would expect more from a 12v LFP battery as life expectancy is supposedly 3 x lead acid 12v. -

Done it again, including app offline, when i locked it the second time ?? Going to charge up to around 8% to see what happens then !! Hoping it is not the 12v ?, as i didn’t give it any reason to go to sleep other than the 5% battery !! -

Thought about getting it down below 10% to do a full charge overnight at the weekend. The opportunity arose on a little trip so drove it down from 17 - 5%, little scary when the kms disappear at 5% though !!, didn’t know that was going to happen 😳 Strangely, when i looked at the app a couple of hours later to see if it showed any kms i found it offline since i took the photo. It wouldn’t react to my phone and had to get the key and press the door button 5 times to open. Seems like it had gone to sleep at the moment i arrived home and locked it. Got the “ turn steering wheel left and rIght “ message when i started it . Strange going’s on !! -

Stuff i have watched recently and my opinion: A thousand blows: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21874900/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk As expected was very good and can’t wait for season 2 Companion: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt26584495/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Enjoyed this, pleasant distraction. Paradise: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt27444205/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk This started well, went a little slow but came back okay towards the end. Ten pound Poms: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20318226/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk This started okay with an interesting premise but quickly turned into a run of the mill drama, gave up after 3 or 4 episodes, over the top characters with annoying tendencies. Currently watching Prime Target: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt31186958/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk Enjoying this, got a bit of a Da Vinci Code feel to it which will no doubt divide the room but so far so good imho. -

The mistake in this article was unleashing it on a bunch of grumpy old men at AN. The owner of the autographed elephant drawing will probably have something worth a few bob when the PL “ icons “ realise what they were signing ( probably only blank pages from now on ! ) . Okay, so he has something to brag about to his mates only and the novelty soon wears off but was a unique prank, if only short lived, and raised the blood pressure of a few of the miserable old gits on here, so imho, is priceless !! -
I think that is still allowed but obviously one would have to do some calculations to see if economically it makes sense as the on peak rate is higher than the normal rate. i.e. if you only use air conditioning at night time and are prepared to do your washing at weekends etc then maybe it is worth it. Presumably there is also a charge for the new meter plus installation ?, my TOU meter cost 4,800 baht to PEA and 9,300 baht for the “ free “ BYD installation. Some rough calculations and i worked out it meant the ROI was when i realised 9,000 kms.

BBC Sounds app being withdrawn for overseas users
Andrew Dwyer replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
That’s a shame as i recently discovered BBC Sounds and have been listening to some great Desert Island Discs going back decades, have a bunch bookmarked. For all other radio stations ( Absolute, Virgin, Capital, etc ) i use Radioplayer app, literally hundreds of stations including all the BBC stations but when clicking on any BBC station it sends you to BBC Sounds, that seems to be a recent change as years ago i am sure that didn’t happen. -

Must admit I have thought about getting a vacuum cleaner hose in there through the opening vents at the bottom front. Not sure how to maintain them open though ?? Plenty of grills available on the online sites. -
I was lucky to get a TOU meter installed for EV use only, additional to our regular meter. Rate is 2.6 baht per kw, with taxes and a standing charge ( 24.62 baht ) works out at just over 3 baht . I pay on an average month about 700 baht , this on a 19,000 km usage in 12 months. My previous car ( a HEV SUV ) cost me 2 baht per km, my EV works out around 40/50 satang per km.
