I do not want my government certifying unsubstantiated claims for anyone, nor do I want them spending taxpayer money to substantiate such claims.

The money is available in the event of an emergency. You can draw it out anytime, it may cause a problem with your visa down the line, but if that happens, you can always use an agent. A few years ago, to qualify there were people overstating their income, and swearing such to get "income letters" from their consulates. Immigration tried unsuccessfully to get the consulates to actually certify the incomes, and the consulates largely refused, leaving Thai Immigration to have to certify incomes on their own. Legally, you now have to either show actual income, or maintain a balance in a Thai bank account. If you have the minimum required income, you do not need to maintain the balance. The 800/400 is actually an easy way for people to maintain their visa without having to show income. It is an option provided by immigration to HELP people qualify that otherwise would not. You do not have to deposit money with immigration, and immigration does not control your account.

Where are all these low railings people are always taking about, I just don't see them. In any event, generally the only way people fall from a balcony with a rail is when they are sitting or climbing on the rail, or the rail fails.

Where are you getting 6% on a fixed account, India? The account I use draws significantly more interest than my US savings account. If $25,000 represents a major portion of one's savings, "tying it up" might not be a good idea, but circumventing the law comes with some level of risk as well. I think having money in the country one lives in makes sense, and the bank is a good place to keep it. If I really need the money, I can take it out.

I commented that I did not understand that people that did not care about things because they were not affected directly. I then I provided an example that I thought made my reason clear: I know a lot of people that don't have children, but most all of the seem to care about children. If there is a kid being tormented in a classroom, should I not care as long as it's not my child? I did not mean to imply that trans kids were tormenting other children, or that any group was a disproportionate threat to any other. I am sorry for the confusion and hope I have made my position clearer.

I think it a good bet that at least 90% of people agree with you, I know I do.

I don't use an agent, but I do not understand is the animosity by people that do not use an agent toward people that do. I don't give much of a rat's what people spend their time or money on as long it does not affect me. Going to CW does not really bother me, but if it did, I would pay someone else to do it.
