  1. I have this niggling feeling men don't like Harris because she is intelligent, coloured and female. Bigotry is the biggest obstacle to her success.
  2. "Even prodigies who avoid burnout and resist social pressures are unlikely to make a big splash as an adult. The problem, notes giftedness researcher Ellen Winner, is that to make a major contribution in the arts, and even the sciences "you need a rebellious spirit and the type of mind that can see new things." Most prodigies, however, are acclaimed not for their innovation but "for doing something that's already been done." https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/articles/200511/why-prodigies-fail
  3. I guess the USA is joining an exclusive club of countries with bubonic plague like Zambia, India, Malawi, Algeria, China, Peru, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
  4. Climate change. The issue that causes giggling among oil company CEOs.
  5. So when god didn't help did they stop believing in god? Or admit he was powerless to prevent her death?
  6. I doubt that NATO sees the Ukraine as an historical ally but more as the first in a series of small states that Russia wants.
  7. Seems they could have stopped the deal. The amount paid already is a sunk cost and they won't get it back so just take the savings from not concluding the deal and add it to the 10,000 baht project.
  8. How much will this "stimulate" the economy? Porn is a multi billion dollar industry in the USA (porn makes more than Hollywood apparently), but is this going to save the industry knowing how hardly anyone pays tax here? https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/dec/30/internet-porn-says-more-about-ourselves-than-technology#:~:text=Current revenue estimates for the,words%2C online porn is huge.
  9. I think his NATO speech could prove important in rallying member countries. Most people look at Russia having to cross Europe before attacking the USA. However, Russia, at its closest, is just 53 miles from the USA (see any map) and there are risks to the USA when Canada, a NATO member, has refused to increase military spending. If the USA withdraws from NATO later, it could face a Russian invasion on its northern flank. Then again, maybe overthinking this.
  10. Many years ago, before I put cameras in my cars, a young car driver pulled out and hit the front left corner of my car. A policeman stopped to find out what happened and I could hear the kid telling the policeman in Thai, "He's a farang, make him pay." I told the policeman, in Thai, that the boy pulled out without signalling and if you check the front of my car you can see the angle at which he hit me. The boy complained that he and his girlfriend were in a hurry to get to university for an exam. "What subject are you taking?" asked the policeman. "Law," said the boy. With a lot of sangfroid, the policeman looked at him and said, "I wouldn't be in a hurry. You would have failed."
  11. Tea is a plant based drink but isn't mentioned. I wonder why they differ?
  12. Well, it is a short term action that does not help Thais in the long term. They could add it to each person's Social Security savings, which will benefit them over the long term. But then, that would be too simple.
  13. I was watching videos of flat-earthers this morning explaining that NASA and all the other space agencies are making it all up. The flat-earthers look at photos of the earth and the planets and say they are fake. Now, those who think rising temperatures are somehow not true simply don't want to look for evidence.
  14. If any individual or organization thinks they have a case against a company, they have the right to litigate. That's democracy. When you read that this or that politician or high profile person is a crook, you don't hear later that a member of the public sued. I wish they would. But these people are concerned about the environment - whichever class they belong to - and they went ahead with the case, which is something I admire. If you accuse, and have the evidence to back it up, go for it.
  15. Similar to major cities globally, the homeless are to be found everywhere. You can't make them illegal without putting thousands in prison. I am not even sure many want to join the rat race but mental health issues probably affect a lot. What have developed countries done to mitigate this problem?
  16. How swiftly was this minister on the case exactly? The government took over the University in 2023 because of this cheating, so presumably it had been going on for a long time before 2023. Not swift at all.
  17. If he had lied he would have been caught out by the evidence and taken to court surely? Instead, people without evidence keep repeating he lied as if that means much.
  18. Why is this news? No one cares about the shenanigans of the royal family nowadays.
  19. Can't expect superiors to rub shoulders with the people who pay their salaries I suppose. But what about this economic crisis I keep hearing about? Is it over then?
  20. Honestly, who hasn't had sex in public or in a car?
  21. Foreign criminals need to be banned. Come to think of it, every member of their family should be banned too. Blood runs thicker etc. Let them have a family meeting and say, "What have you done to us Frank? What did we do in Thailand? Nothing except have you as a family member."
