Actually from a Tourist Visa or visa exempt opening a Thai bank account is now difficult. If you obtain a single entry non o outside of Thailand then the Non O would help. However an agent for the bank account would be best option. Here is a thread that outlines .... entering Thailand visa exempt then obtaining non O (marriage) and subsequent 12 moth extension. It also Has links to similar threads. https://aseannow.com/topic/1315828-visa-exempt-to-90-day-non-o-spouse-visa-conversion-in-thailand/ You really need to be in the states to obtain a non O-A so don't believe that is your best option. To buy time you can apply for 30 day extension to visa exempt + a 60 day extension to visit wife. Good luck.

For the single entry non O foreign account will be sufficient. However.that visa provides a 90 day permission of stay. You can obtain a 12 month extension however that requires 400k in Thai bank account and seasoned for 2 months. You will receive better advice if you outline your plan moving forward. Meaning how long you plan to live in Thailand year to year. For extensions the funds do not need to remain in bank. After extension is approved you can withdraw funds as you wish. Why is 400k an issue when you can use those funds. Different for retirement. Re the Thai bank account you could consider an agent. Which immigration office do you deal with. Once married you could obtain 60 day extension to visit wife. How old are you. 50+ ...? Asking for other options.

Pretty much sums it up. Poor planning.

To some extent it is the point. You are having a rant. There are no clear cut rules. Example you mention no limit on visa exempt entries via air. Then you add "within reason" What is "within reason". You state that you are over 50. As a result you have option of non O retirement with extensions. Your current trip would have been less of an issue if you changed the order for the border bounce and trip to Vietnam. You were entering visa exempt after metv expired. Problematic

The agent that I spoke with yesterday was Maneerat Soi 13/2 off Beach rd Pattaya. 12,500b for extension (retirement) 4,000b for multi reentry permit (optional) Regards extensions marriage....there is no point. Actually I'm amazed you still have the mobility to do your own extensions. I will be moving to agent as I slow up which certainly has occurred.

You mentioned agents in your OP and again throughout the thread. The main reason some folk use agents to avoid the necessity of keeping 800k in a Thai bank. Also for some mobility issues. It's a personal choice and cost is 12,500b A thread with point form of what docs you provided for your extension would have been more useful than the old "agent" chestnut.

Extending ‘marriage visa’

Vaguely recall that Rayong at one point required a witness for extensions based on marriage. Someone dealing with that office will advise -
what visa do I need?
DrJack54 replied to billybog's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
OP, for approx 100 days you need to exit Thailand at some point . Thinking a multi entry tourist visa is over kill. A SETV would provide 60 days with the option of 30 day extension. For longer than 90 days you would need to do a border bounce for a visa empty entry 30 days. Where would you be located in Thailand? -
You will be fine. My first 7 yrs in Thailand I was out/in Thailand every month. As a result never had made a 90 day report. The TM47 requirement at CW is new. In any event your pp stamps will show if you have missed a required report. Even then the io could do a 90 report and fine you 2k then proceed with the 12 month extension.

Non O on deposit extension
DrJack54 replied to jumbo's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Very different. For extensions marriage you only require 400k in bank in your name only for 2 months prior to application. It's recommended to keep those funds in the account till the final stamp is in pp. Sometimes up to a month. After that you can withdraw money as you want. -
Non O on deposit extension
DrJack54 replied to jumbo's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
If you have Thai family why are you using extension based on retirement. For extensions marriage the funds only nend to be in bank for 2 months prior to application and maintained during the under consideration period. -
Non O on deposit extension

You won't be able to obtain next extension and you then would have 2 options. 1. Use an agent (ongoing) 2. Exit Thailand (border bounce) and on reenter visa exempt and obtain new non O at your immigration office. BTW for money in bank method it's 800k for two months prior to application + 3 months after application and not below 400k in remaining moths
