I don't see this as a similar issue. Sure there have been cases involving medical reasons for overstay also court cases and folk end up on overstay if they didn't obtain extension for court proceedings etc. Lawyers in some situations can be useful but costly. What part of hotel requesting you pp for check in don't you understand. Hotels have a legal obligation to do a TM30 report. To meet that they require your pp.

Previously online reporting 90 days for next extension was dated from approval. Many threads on this where people point out that it only adds one extra report per year. If your office starts 90 day account from due date great. If its now across all offices even better

It mostly depends on the airline and route. If you are flying eg Jetstar to Thailand you have good chance of issue at check in without onward flight within 30 days

You should not be required to do a TM30 for trips out of province or out of Thailand. To obtain a certificate of residence most recent TM47 or TM30 should be sufficient.
