  1. IMO the history of Australia shows being left wing, socialist etc, is not the end of the world. After all, we have the age pension, Medicare for all, and a low cost medication scheme. Ironically, the age pension and firearm restrictions were both introduced by conservative leaders, Deakin and Howard. Perhaps the term United States of America is a misnomer, because there are times when disunity seems to be the order of the day.
  2. What has Trump done that you do not like?
  3. If Africa is the future, I am wondering why so many white people are leaving it, Australia does seem to be getting quite a few - 189,000 at last count.
  4. I have not used an agent for about ten years. i can understand they may be necessary for people who become incapacitated.
  5. I was given a compendium of Poe's short stories when I was about ten years old. IIRC illustrations by Arthur Rackham. I thought the stories were terribly gloomy and morbid, coming from a tortured soul. I am still baffled why the gift was thought suitable for a kid my age.
  6. The truth is Canada could black out New York, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont at the flick of a switch, and ensure power rationing in Minnesota and Michigan. It could also sell the 50% of oil it supplies the US elsewhere. How long do you think effete Americans would be lining up at gasoline stations? Then there's the auto industry, another symbiotic relationship. Sure, America could damage Canada seriously. However, it would damage itself just as much.
  7. I believe in what I have seen and experienced.
  8. I started a thread on this some time ago. Some Thais get it, others don't.
  9. If Canada joined the EU, that would enrage Trump. But what could he do, short of ordering invasion?
  10. More entertaining than anything you post.
  11. I have never understood the psychology behind owning the world's biggest vibrator.
  12. That's what you have been told to believe. IME, what happens is the best and brightest leave, to start up their own businesses, or get hired back as contractors when the organization realizes it has lost institutional memory. In the meantime, the office politicians and clock-watchers ramp up their efforts to keep their jobs, with an impression of great activity. They then relax back into climbing the ladder, or torpor. Nobody ever goes back one or two years later to verify whether the savings are real. You are quite right, many people don't understand what's going on around them.
  13. The English language is in a constant state of evolution. Has it occurred to you most of the dumbing down seems to originate with Americans?

  15. Give it a couple more months, when the mass sackings and BS savings have medical care and social security grinding to a halt. Even the poorest MAGA adherent will understand, when their welfare payments are no longer coming.
  16. I don't keep score.
  17. Your posts are like dog turds on a footpath, to be stepped around carefully.
  18. Collate them in a different cohort to the positive ones. It would be interesting. I get plenty of sad and confused emojis from MAGA's, climate deniers, and anti-vaxxers. The reactions of idiots doesn't bother me.
  19. Another poster who is unaware laughing at his own jokes with emojis is moronic. It's how many laughing emojis you get from other posters that are significant, genius.
  20. True , Putin has support. The body bags are mounting up. Wartime economies mean more employment. Any economy with a collapsing currency is in trouble. Nobody wants to pay in rubles. Then there is food inflation at 10%, and bank interest rates of 21%. I don't need to go to Russia for that information. What does it tell you when a country ceases to publish basic economic data?
  21. Won't be much use against a Hellfire missile.
  22. News to me blue sky is not a factor in any market value. How much have you invested in DJT shares?
  23. The poster you are responding to is ignorant of Ukrainian history. During WW2, the Germans were greeted as liberators by Ukrainians. Kiev surrendered without firing a shot. It didn't take long for the Ukrainians to realize they had only exchanged a Russian jackboot for a German one. A number of resistance groups formed which fought on one side or the other. It suited Putin's book to label all Ukrainians as Nazis and collaborators. However, history is a lot more complex than a Kremlin lie.
  24. It's actually derived from Latin. Apparently the contraction first appeared on a box of baby food cereal. As the product was quite bland and insipid, hence the modern meaning. The original meaning was as nourishment physically and intellectually.
  25. The market value of any company is comprised of the assets it actually owns, and what is termed blue sky. What investors think and hope it will be worth down the track. Trump Media has oodles of blue sky. My investments consist of a large resource company which pays a dividend like clockwork every six months. My blue sky factor is a sleeper sitting on the richest rare earth deposits on the planet, with supply contracts already inked with the Pentagon and Siemens. I have never lost money trading in either. Apart from that, I have never lost money trading in precious metals - gold, silver and platinum. But you are so much smarter than me. Let me know when you make a realised capital gain on DJT, or get your first dividend. It's down 1.4% today. You weren't one of the suckers that bought in at $70, were you?
