  1. I was ravishingly handsome when I was an early teenager. Had my parents boarded me out to Michael Jackson then, I'd be rich by now. I missed a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
  2. Getting girls and good music nearly everywhere in (black) Africa is not difficult. Getting everything else is though. Of late, the former has been getting less true because of meddling by feminist NGOs, while the latter has become much, much worse. Fancy a 3* hotel for 200 USD/night without breakfast? Go to Kampala, Abidjan, Ouagadougou, Yaoundé, Dakar, Cotonou ... Flights to and from Africa are per mile very expensive (no competition, only Airfrance or Ethiopian etc.). Retirement visas? 3000 USD/year in Kenya! Only exception seems to be South Africa, but from what I've read the country is war zone.
  3. This doesn't encourage me to ever ride a bike in Thailand. Alas, walking is sometimes more dangerous still because you're an even softer target.
  4. There's no cosmic meaning unless you believe in tales (religion). The Earth and life on it have a finite duration. Everything of human value/meaning to individuals and Societies will vanish. You can however generate terrestrial meaning in your life, in the sense that your life can have meaning for other people and vice versa. However this form of meaning ("you give me some meaning I give you some") has something circular about it and is weak. It features strongly in today's popular culture and has a high virtue-signalling coefficient. People who want to sound educated often come up with concepts from biology, like "DNA replication" etc. There's no meaning or purpose to be derived from such technicalities. They just say how life operates. Question: "why did DNA multiply on Earth"? Answer: "because it could". Meaninglessness is central to Life, not meaning.
  5. This wallet thing poses a serious liquidity problem. What I suspect will happen, is that some clever operators will make billions helping the masses turn part of their digital money into money they can spend.
  6. The Thais prefer loud canned music to the sound of waves lapping on the beach, so I guess they're prefer diesel-stench fire shows to something cosmically awsome like a meteor shower.
  7. Such a forum wouldn't tell anyone how to get rich, no serious forum does. It could, however, host discussions about the technicalities of stock investing in Thailand. So not a bad idea at all IMO.
  8. Well, he'd rather the handout were in cash. He's not opposing the scheme. He's opposing the fact that it is not generous enough. Maybe another opponent will demand the handout be in gold? Or in USD?
  9. Set up a brokerage account and buy Thai revenue stocks. Dividends will be taxed 10% automatically (withholding tax, nothing to do on your part). You don't need a Thai tax-ID for this. As far as I know capital gains, ie selling with a profit, are tax-free in Thailand. Not a bad deal at all. Stocks like Tisco financial, PTTET, ...
  10. I thought by now the sanctions would have ruined the Russian economy and the Russians would have become too poor to travel. Am I missing something?
  11. 38% income tax to worry about for tax residents (180+ days in the country).
  12. Too late, Portugal just cancelled the tax incentive for foreign pensions as of 2024.
  13. Scan to PDF then use a PDF merger to have both pages on the same file. You can download a PDF editor (better not merge online if the docs are confidential). Usually the PDF editors will allow the use of the merger function free of charge.
  14. Pseudoephedrine works for people suffering from runny nose syndrome. In some countries it is sold OTC combined with a mild antihistamine. Eg. the brand Rhinopront (pseudoephedrine + Tripolidine). Depriving patients of medicines that work well is one of the many nasty sides of the war on drugs.
  15. If high season in Thailand didn't coincide with the European cold damp winter, I would avoid being in TH in December-February.
  16. Free SIM cards with expensive and lousy data plans! Better buy a non-free SIM card for 10 Baht, then purchase a good on-top package.
  17. So whereas retirement visa holders would be well-advised to hurry and remit a high sum this year, LTR holder had better not do so until January 2024. If LTR holders remit the money in what is left of 2023, they may lose the benefit of Royal Decree 743.
  18. Countries with tax-free foreign pensions: Uruguay, Peru, Colombia. The last two have girls as well.
  19. Doesn't work like that. If you stay 180 days nowhere, other criteria (citizenship, where your bank is, ...) may kick in. You are expected to be a tax resident somewhere, even if not a tax-paying one.
  20. Thailand still passes for a LD paradise but it is anything but judging what you see in the street or online. Maybe that too is a thing of the past in Thailand? If you want to know what an LD paradise can look like, google "Sao Paulo, bonecas, acompanhantes".
  21. Lost in Space Star Trek (1st generation) Happy Days
  22. Where do you find walkable "nature" in Thailand? Walks in nature trails in national parks are expensive for foreigners. Not to speaks of the stifling heat.
  23. L-Theanine before going to bed. DHEA in the morning (but read the litterature about possible risks first). Some sun exposure every day for vitamin D. Avoid cannabis or take only in very low dosage. Getting plenty of sleep - if necessary with naps in the middle of the day - is essential, but alas difficult in Thailand. I'm writing this bracing myself for yet another day with the din of grinding machines.
  24. If that is the case, instead of remitting sums direct to Thailand, everyone can borrow money abroad and have it sent by the lender to Thailand. Each short-term loan gets repaid abroad within 4 to 5 weeks. It's not income, it's a debt.
