Silly headline ... nothing shocking at all about his family history.

Same, first (and only) visit about 30 years ago, horrible place for many reasons, never been back, never will go back.

Several impressive situations for sure. A farang acquaintance told me recently he purchases a solar 'set up' to create enough charge to run one a/c all night and it worked well, so he bought a second unit. Any comments on this much appreciated. Why, because our family is big, my Thai son has 3 very young kids and we run 3 a/c's most of the night, so our bill is pretty high, if son can establish more positive comments re solar just for a/c's he intends to buy. (By the way, I'm not looking for snide / judgemental comments on a/c's for kids.)

Worst I'm aware of: Young very beautiful italian female professor accepted a short-term teaching contract, in Economics, in English, at a Bkk uni. Uni booked her into a nice hotel about 4 Km from the campus and sent her several messages in Thai script, that she could give to taxid drivers etc. Hotel picked her up at Suvanabhumi airport. First morning hotel hailed a taxi and the professor gave the driver the note, in Thai, with the address of the uni. On arrival driver had locked all doors and refused to let her out. Lady professor realized many people were very close nearby walking into the uni. She banged on the window several times and 2 male students went to investigate. Driver refused to unlock the doors saying he would unlock: - when she paid 500Baht (should be about 50 - 60Baht), and - when the lady allowed him to touch her legs. She refused. Students noted that 2 cops were standing nearby and asked the cops to intervene. Initially they refused. Students called the uni dean's office and requested deans office take action. Much more snr cop arrived quickly plus the dean arrived. Driver still won't unlock the doors. Cop say there's nothing they can do. Students decided to take action, they find a length of steel pipe and smash the window and unlock the door and get the lady out of the car. More snr cops arrive and berate the cops already on the scene. Driver taken away in handcuffs. Dean of uni now very concerned that the lady will insist to cancel the lessons and fly home to Italy that day. The 2 male students make a plan; they will go to the hotel every morning in a private car and bring her to the uni and same in reverse to accompany her back to the hotel early evening and if she wished they had dinner with her. Dean asks the hotel to employ an extra security staff (at uni expense) to sit outside her room all night. Course ends, uni tries to arrange a farewell event. Lady professor refuses to attend. Uni asks her to please come back to lecture more courses. She refuses. Nothing ever heard again from the police. Requests to the police for info on what happened to the taxi driver all ignored.

You should remember that going back 1, 2, 3 generations the daily objective was to survive, to provide 3 meals a day. You could label that scenario as selfish but i wouldn't agree, the label would be survival and not selfish.

So that leaves Oz citizens who receive OAP funds into their Thai bank accounts (specifically those who have no other income) and how will these funds be taxed by the Thai Revenue Department?' There's been multiple postings re this very specific scenario but I'm still wondering what the answer is. What's your thoughts?

But if it's second hand seriously investigate / check the status of an owners committee and how action that committee is and the common finances.

I totally agree, don't alienate your kids from the way life is in 2024.

Once had a death on my flight. At 3.5 hrs into the flight the Atilalia aircraft was halfway across Australia (Melbourne to Italy). Very early in the morning the Italian Captain had to turn the flight around and go back to Melbourne. No other airports available at that hour. 99% of the passengers were Italian migrants going home to Italy to see parents, old aunts etc. When the food / drinks ran out many of the passengers got very emotional and started to abuse the flight crew. On arrival in Melbourne about 3 hr delay while the captain consulted Aust. authorities, which resulted in not allowing the passengers (full flight) to get off the aircraft so we sat on the aircraft another 3 hrs. And within about 1.5 hrs drinks and food all depleted. Coffin brought on board and body put in the coffin with much wailing and crying (emotional Italians). About 10 Melbourne police and a doctor came onto the aircraft and they physically inspected the body and wrapped the body in a typical white cloth. Family and other passenger not allowed to touch the body or the coffin. Captain did get permission for drinking water to be replenished in Melbourne, and got permission to make an unplanned stopover in Singapore. All passengers disembarked and we were escorted by airport police to an airport employees catering facility at the airport and we were well feed. But only after all passports were stamped for arrival at Singapore, then of course had to be stamped for departure from Singapore. Meanwhile all food and drinks replenished on the aircraft for the rest of the flight. About 3 hrs stopover.

But you could also put a usufruct on the land title deed requiring that you must sign for the property to be sold and this would be valis until you die. And the usufruct can state that you have a right to live in the condo until you die.

Can you us BOLT taxi in your area? Maybe same problem but GRAB and BOLT and the others don't operate exactly the same. I use BOLT several times every week, never a problem.

And maybe she was just too frightened / intimidated by the abbots rank to say anything on the moment direct to the abbott.

Some families see funerals differently and that's their human right. My dad died, twenty years earlier he had disowned his nasty mother, for very good reasons. When dad died my mother and I decided I should call and see if she was still alive and if so tell her dad had passed away. The called happened and we (mum and myself) that we had done our duty and we moved on to complete the arrangements for dad's burial. Dad's mum got her daughter to call many places in our small city and get the dat, place, time of the impending burial. Halfway through the burial, the coffin was being lowered into the ground a car pulled, dad's mother got out and ran to the grave and tried to throw herself onto his coffin. She was held back and went into rant of abuse towards my mum and me and dad's brother who had also disowner her. The funeral director called the police, they came and charged dad's mother with disturbing the peace. Took my mum month's to get up the confidence to leave the house. And sure enough every person she met when she was shopping and other activities tried to quiz my mum on what my mum had done to cause this situation. Truth is she had done nothing whatever. The original argument was between my dad and his mother and went back to when my dad was a little boy, and nothing more.

But it was an honest mistake.

Plus laws and judicial processes which are. fair, balanced, equal and transparent for all citizens. And nobody above the law / no special treatment whatever for anybody (e.g. thaksin right now).

In Sydney Australia 4 years back all the barber / hairdresser shops in 2 malls that I sometimes visited were same price AU$43-for electric clipper buzzcut, same length all over, all done in less than 5 minutes. Luckily I found a retired hairdresser living close by, she did same cut, with electric clippers, for AUS10-.

No doubt true but they also want Thailand to remain in the old mould of military dominance for the sake of the 'glory' they see in that scenario, and not allow Thailand to catch up with any modern approaches to managing the country based specifically on the wishes of the non military populace re democracy and the will of the people.

Seem to me that much of the current sentiment relates to netanyahu's personal attitudes and his lack of any respect for all others / for humanity. He's a monster. His spoken desires to totally obliterate Palestine is to me very worrying and shows his lack of any balance. Further, to me, he well fits the type that claim (with some truth) that Jewish folks have been very badly treated in Europe etc., but at the same time he wants to hit others with the same treatment. In the current conflict his attitude to killing children and totally and deliberately destroying health care and destroying access to food, medicines, aid., etc. is very disturbing.

e.g. Many folks criticize muslim people, and many criticize christians. and all of these religions are bases on unproven / will never be proven words. Plenty of research indicates that: Jesus never existed / that he was born by virgin birth (not possible), he died and came back to life after three days (not possible). Miracles? But research suggests such miracles don't / cannot exist. Could make similar analysis of all religions. Further, many over the top christians say that homosexuality is spoken of negatively in the bible - on the other hand many respected theology scholars for centuries say this subject is not mentioned anywhere in the bible, not one word. Can make same analysis about other religions, based on unproved / impossible words.

And stop gatoeys praying on men on Pattaya Beach. (Remembering of course that Pattaya Beach is quite infamous for this scenario and men who walk around there early morning are asking for trouble.) Also in this picture is that Gatoeys / lady boys who get caught by the police (who are not actively looking for them) get taken to Pattaya police station, fined 100Baht and walk out headed again for the late night men cruising the beach. Also in the picture again and again Indian men cruising this beach early morning wearing massive amount of gold necklaces etc. Perhaps they should be fined for the trouble they make. What's the answer? Who knows?

Actually it was introduced to stop high school boys buying alcohol and skipping school.

On the other hand the locals know where they can buy alcohol 24/7.
